Chris, any idea if there is a native resolution video out there circling the web? That is, not WMV encoded from the low-res FLV flash files.
I was a good boy and checked the FIFA news thread, but nothing about high res there, so thought I would ask. ;)

If we'd have found one I'd have mirrored it 20 times over ;)

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

woohoo! thanks

Glad they got the thanks in there for being open and receptive to comments and suggestions.

Good interview. Thanks for posting and thanks from FSB for doing it (and of course Rutter for being kind and taking time for it). :)

Hope he stays on as producer for a while, I like him. He speaks in sentences.

I'm still waiting for any screenshot or something in a vid that shows the squad screen, to see if they changed the way player stats are presented (to be more pro evo like)... nuttin so far

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Yep, good interview. I liked the bit about the 360-degree control, interesting points he makes.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

love how he admits that their generic faces look rather strange.

thank god even the devs think so. ;)

and man that guy must be bored of getting asked the same stupid questions over and over again.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

kuranyi on the german cover? not with me. so I made my own cover :)

what do you guys think?

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Nice guy for answering all those questions. Was interesting to hear about 360 degree motion control.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

He talks sense regarding full 360 degree movement; it would be more of a pain in the arse than many people realise.

To be honest I see no disadvantages with full analog running/movement.

As Rutter says, Off the ball AI assistance is needed to make sure that you are somewhat guided onto the ball.

360 movement: AI assistance is needed to make sure you run at the ball and don't accidentally run past it.
8 directions: AI assistance is needed since in some cases you can't physically run at the ball, it is in between directions (North-North-East rather than North-East).

There is a difference, but the result is the same. AI assistance is needed in loose-ball situations where the player needs to run at the ball in a straight line.

However, for any situations where no such guidance is needed (With the ball, off the ball but not chasing it), 360 degree movement is much preferable over 8/16-way. On-The-Ball movement becomes much more unpredictable when not limited by the 8 directions. Currently you can sort of pick out spots on the field that you know the opponent will pass if he turns 45 degrees to his left or 45 degrees to his right when moving to get past you. It ruins the unpredictability of the opponent slightly.

Plus, Football Kingdom, ISS64/98/2000 have already done it more or less. :)

I agree with the points you made, but I'm not sure 360 degree movement is totally necessary and also if the analogue stick is accurate enough to do it justice.

Maybe 32 or 64 direction movement would work just as well and be more practical in gameplay terms?

Well, sure, that would work aswell, but once you start getting into 64 directional territory, you might just aswell go all out and have the max resolution the analog stick can transmit. I just don't see the point of going up to 64 directions and not just using the full stick range. I think it would be similar to saying "let's have 350 directions", if that exaggeration makes my point clearer. Might aswell go all out when the end result would be virtually identical. :)

But I would agree that perhaps 32 directions would be acceptable, since it would provide decent amount of directions to run in, while also perhaps retaining a bit of that "snappy turning" that comes with digital movement, and perhaps avoiding the sense of "undefined" or "unstable" turning that might come with no directional limitations (more like you are floating around rather than turning with precision). I certainly wouldn't complain about 32 directions anyways. ;)

Cheers for the reply Jamezinho, I'm desperately needing sleep now so off to bed I go.
See you another time mate. ;)

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

Hey what is up Evo Web.I am a new member here and i want to start off my time in this forum by asking some of you guys a simple question.do any of you know if this year's fifa 09 will include coaches and subs on the bench in the final build(are they visible)? cause from the images and videos i have seen from videogamezone,i am not pretty sure.i will really appriciate getting any replies to this subject.cheers and goodnight.

Re: FIFA 09 Discussion Thread

The gameplay videos leave me underwhelmed. Looks just like FIFA08. Looks terribly scripted. Nobody will ever be playing with analogue passing on-line...you put yourself at too muich disadvantage.

I think we'll buy the game, have a few hours of "honeymoon" at the new feel, but quickly the general experience of playing will be just the same as it is with 08, but with marginally improved response times.

I'm not sure mate. I think coaches are in there like Euro08 in cutscenes (I think).

But can't be sure if subs are visible. :/

Very good mate! You should start a request thread and make some custom covers for us! ;))
