FC Barcelona Thread

i actually wanted barca to destroy chelsea. fucksakes

Villa's clinicality in front of goal, along with Pedro's regression, has been a huge miss.

Add in the tinkering around with the defence, Abidal's unfortunate problem, all these factors have snowballed and caught up with them in the end.

You can't rely on Messi to bail you out every single time.

Is barcas gameplan so bad though? A missed penalty in any formation stays a missed penalty. The chances were there to be taken barca didn't fail because they had a poor formation or game plan - they failed because they lacked composure. If they didn't create any I would agree.

Oh well there's always next season guys need to chillout and take a break. We do however need a good rotation system and proper defenders that can keep up the pace.

As I said in the CL thread (that right now is full of very childish people vomiting the usual trash) it's mainly a case of bad luck. 4 posts, ridiculous saves by Cech, Cole saved one in the very line, 2 empty net sitters wasted, 3 goals in 4 shots for Chelsea...

Even playing quite average, Barcelona managed to shoot 40 times in the round overall, 17 times on target. How many teams in history can say that? Barcelona would have won 99/100 rounds like this one. A pitty.

Bad luck and terrible defending too. We missed Pique and Abidal, and Villa, and Afellay too I guess... Too many injuries, players too tired. And I think the 3-4-3 is not a good formation for us. We need to return to the 4-3-3. But that's another story and today's not the day.

Next year we will try again, for sure. Congrats to the boys and Pep. They tried hard until the end and they have completed a great season. You can't expect to always win!

And congrats to Chelsea too! Good luck for them in the final. You cant expect to always loose!

PS: Surely it's all because we dope and because of our antics and because we have bought the referees and UEFAlona and why the hell Terry isn't allowed to freely kick our players? Now according to some great genius (that's what he thinks of himself) the fans of Barcelona are the worse in the world by booing an opponent. We are really the worse possible scum on earth.

Guys, I'm so so tired of all this stuff. Won't be appearing around much in the following days. I'm quite busy at the moment and can't waste time with all this childish attittudes.

You do realise that you only get all the doping/cheating/whatever arguments because people simply get fed up with one team winning monotonously all the time?

If it's a cycle and you have a few years without success, Barca will probably get more fans again (especially when they pick it up again, rightly or wrongly).

I loved Barca in the 90's, loved them in the Rijkaard/Ronaldinho era but can't stand them in the Pep era (despite the fact that I like Pep).

Next era I'll probably like Barca again.

It'll be nice to have a change (if that's the case), though I bet next year you'll probably sweep all before you and win everything.

I agree, people don't like a dynasty. they get sick of seeing the same outcomes and generally gravitate to underdogs.

Personally I do find it funny at how bitter some get at Barcelona, I personally enjoy them as long as they aren't playing United. I feel a bit more Messi, he's had an incredible year and its ended on a sour note.

seems like Ronaldinho_23 has been busy lately as well :P

Barca might have been unlucky at times, but we cannot take it away from Chelsea. Imho, being a defender myself, I really enjoyed their performance last night. I saw them stop many chances and they did it right. The satisfaction of stopping a team like Barca play is great for me. Many of you think Barca is the beautiful football game, but many seem to forget football isn't just attack attack attack. Defending is also part of it and I do find beauty in it. You might say they parked the bus, but that's a strategy they had to undertake for a team like Barca to close all gaps and they implemented it very well. Not any team who decide to park the bus can do it right. It takes defensive skills and mighty concentration throughout the game, specially with a very talented and quick team like Barca.

Also, like some say, they lack a plan b. They insist on repeating the same tactic over and over and over and over again. It really becomes a chore for people watching, well for me it does. I always like mixing up different styles of play.

Anyway, bad luck fellas. There's always next year.

Good points. Well said.

People do often forget there's an art and beauty to defending and although Chelsea had their fair share of luck, they defended excellently as a unit and were extremely disciplined. Apart from John Terry's one stupid rash action, throughout the 180 minutes, they were more or less spot on. Di Matteo and all players including Cech who saved them when he needed to all deserve massive credit.

Well done Chelsea. Barca didn't take their chances while Chelsea did and at this level of competition, that's the difference maker.

Like i said in another thread: Chelsea has merits and someway deserved to go through.
And yes defending is an art.
But football wasn't meant to be played like Chelsea played over both legs (despite 2 classy goals and one heart warming from Torres).

I feel football has lost yesterday.

As for all the hatred: that is a tribute to immense greatness of Barcelona. I don't like dynasties either, but the way this team plays is so beautifull (watched that Fabregas-Messi combination in the first half? Poetry in motion) a true football fan can only love this team (and don't read here that people who don't like Barcelona are not true football fans).

disagree. the reason why some hate barca is because of there cheating diving antics you see from some of their players. its toned down a bit this year but past few years they have been a massive joke in some games.

Infact, 3 years ago when they played chelsea, they conned the ref to beat chelsea.

This is where all the hatred has come from.

You are underrating Barcelona's powers gerd. Barcelona force you to play that way. They forced Real, Inter, Milan, and now Chelsea to play that way to think about getting a result. What are you supposed to do when you have 8 players around your box passing and pressuring? And then their ability to recover the ball is amazing also. If you don't have technical players that can hold the ball well and pass, Barcelona will take the ball in a matter of seconds. Play on their weaknesses which are slow defenders on the counter and their lack of physical strength.

Milan and Real tried to play a high defensive line but that is a risk as the Barcelona forwards can pressure you a lot and force you to make mistakes and then good luck catching Alexis or Messi. I think that was the tactic Mourinho played in the 5-0 loss Real suffered.

Chelsea don't have the tools and players to play the Arsenal technical side they displayed when facing Barcelona. They were much more suited for this defending and counter style to get a result.

It's not the right time to blame on anyone. Pep just did what he adore. Messi is a genius, but he's not a machine. He's a human, and that's why we love him.

We need these failures to discover what we are missing, and to get better in the future. That's football, and we can't expect more from Pep & Barca last night.

I will never forget it, when all culé sang El Cant del Barca when final whitsle voiced, and when 2 fans kissed Barca logo even we were out. That's true love, and I'm proud to be a fan of this club.

Barça bow out, but with their heads held high!!!

Visca el Barça
Visca el Catalunya!!!

I'm not labelling all fans the same but...

I'm NOT labelling all fans like it though! I have some friends who follow Chelsea. Do I label them the same? No. I don't like Chelsea and I hope the fans who did boo, get what they deserve. The fans that didn't boo I couldn't care either way.

Anyway, people saying Chelsea deserved the win is unbelievable to me. They defended and defended and defended... and had a couple of breaks and scored over the two legs. That's football though. Deserved the win? Not in my eyes. For their fans it will be brilliant for them and in all fairness, they couldn't do much against a superior team. BUT why don't Barca shoot more? How the hell do they expect to score by just passing it sidewards all the time when there is a wall in front of them? They should have peppered the goal with shots. The ones they had were close so I don't get why they didn't shoot more.

That's 3 games on a trot now and they still haven't learnt the lesson.

Hope Bayern win tonight though.

People still bang on about that? Barca were still the better side in those games overall too. Yes Chelsea could have had some penalties and played a lot more attacking than they did last night but Barca were still better for me.

Like somebody said in this thread: Barcelona were still the better team jonney.
It seems as if some clubs or players can get away with diving and others don't.

I honestly can't say that the diving and cheating is an essential part of Barcelona's game. They do what other clubs and players do. Not less, but not more either...

Whatever you may think or say, there is IMO nothing that justifies your previous post on the subject. The fact is that you don't like Chelsea. And that was determinating factor in your post and not the booing. No, it was the fact that Chelsea fans booed.

Your first team is Cardiff, do you think all Cardiff fans behave like angels? I don't think so. This has nothing to do with the club. Take a club like Milwall, their fans have a very bad reputation. I read a book where a journalist followed Milwall for an entire season. If what he writes is true (and why wouldn't it be?) then Milwall does more than most clubs to prevent trouble.

It's not that i don't respect you, because i often enjoy your post, you seem a very intelligent guy. But yesterday you didn't do yourself justice with that post.

I know all Cardiff fans aren't angels.
I know most clubs have idiots who follow them. I wouldn't have wanted Chelsea to beat Barca anyway as I've had an affiliation to Barca for almost 30 years. But that booing (yes it was a minority) sickened me. If it was another club who did it, they would sicken me too. How anybody could do that is beyond me. Total and utter scum.

Not surprised tbh. The fact that he didn't say anything till now eluded to that. I hope we get Bielsa. Loved him as argentina coach albeit a first round exit they were phenomenal in the qualifiers and I was gutted when he stepped down. Looking at athletico bilboa he has the right mentality when it comes to how the game should be played.

Wow! Guardiola and Barcelona are a match made in heaven. Can't imagine Barcelona without Guardiola. If he feels that he needs to take a rest from coaching, then we should respect that. This job looks like it took a lot from him. Just check how his hair changed in just three years.

I don't think so. Bielsa is more than capable.

If Pep really leaves, I wish him the best whatever he decides to do. I bet all clubs will harass him and try their utmost effort to convince him to manage their team. Abramovich and Moratti would be on top of the list as usual.
