FC Barcelona Thread

Well Alex, who am i to disagree with you, but i remember one genius pass from Xavi against Milan in the second leg.
I know that one genius pass is not enough output for a player like him, but aren't you just not being a fan here ? Most fans (including me) are bound to be over pessimistic about their own team.

About yesterday. Do you really think Messi changed the game ? I'm not so sure. He was pretty average (compared tho his usual sky high standars). I think Barcelona could have scored the equaliser without him too.

Just read that is injury is worse now... IMO Barcelona are over reliant on Messi....

Gerd, I think he did. Hell even defence played better after Messi came in, I think whole team believe in positive result when they know that magician is on the field with them. Also I noticed Messi is showing all the time where team mate should/could pass.

Messi's influence was huge. Suddenly the pitch opened and 2-3 defenders were watching him closely, leaving gaps for others. It's not a coincidence that when Messi came to the pitch automatically barcelona generated 3-4 chances on goal until the draw. And the draw is a play he creates from nothing, by dribbling 2 defenders and delivering a killer pass to Villa.

I think Messi is so good that is Xavi and Iniesta who really perform better when he's in, not the other way around.

And about Xavi, believe me, he's playing awful lately. He's nowhere on defense, he doesn't press or intercept, he abuses of short passing and long "secure" passes to Alves on the wing, but his stats of risky passes and created chances is his career low.

I think we should play Bayern without him and put Song or anyone else to help in defense, but that won't happen at all and we will be absolutely raped in the wings as a result. I hope I'm wrong.

Oh, and if Messi plays we can win anything. Without Messi our chances to qualify for the final would be below 0%.

Whoever wins the Barca-Bayern game will win the trophy. I can't see either Real or Dortmund winning it.

If Messi is fit, and Barca beat Bayern, then it would be a huge lift for them, and with Tito coming back from cancer, I can see them surging ahead.

If Bayern win, then they will mentally be on another level, and will not fear either Real or Dortmund, whom they have beaten in recent meetings.

I don't know, we won't have Puyol, Adriano or Mascherano in semis, so we have only a few defenders and we're conceding too much.

when a team concedes too much it's just a matter of time to loose in the lottery of the champions league, where even the smallest detail can decide the outcome of a match. We came through Milan thanks to a miraculous Messi and overcame PSG with the "ghost" of Messi making it possible, but sooner or later this team will pay for its mistakes, and Bayern is the kind of team that can destroy you.

My guess is we will loose big at Munich and have a small win/draw at Barcelona. Hey, I would love to be wrong!

Looks like you were correct. Some of the team selection was a bit strange. Messi was clearly not match-fit, I'm not sure why Villa and Fabregas barely mentioned in the game.
Bayern were in the mood to punish Barca, and surely now are in the final as hot favorites to win the CL.

That's what a 80% fit Messi does. A pitty he wasnt' really fit to play at Munich, because if there's someone in history able to overcome a much superior team, it's this guy.

Best player I've seen ever and now by a large margin. He entered the pitch and turned the tables completely. And for those who didn't watch the match, it was a very intense one, with Bilbao defenders tackling hard and ferociously. It's just that what this guy does EVERY WEEK is out of reason.

PS: A pitty the rest of the team is in scrambles and our defense totally ripped apart (4 injured and the rest in low form), and a pitty that the Messi injury happened just at this time of the competitions.

Indeed and when Messi is 100% he does what he did against Milan, sometimes he is 110% fit and does Maradona goal :)

I saw the 2nd half and the equalizing goal was special and pure luck. Messi plays too many games, watching RM's weaker team did the business vs a strong Atl. Madrid makes you wonder what the copa final will look like.

Behold the power of Messi.

They took the whole strikerless, endless passing thing too far. Messi was able to more or less single-handedly make up for it.

The team of Ronaldinho/Eto'o was better and FAR more exciting to watch, imo.

This highlights just how incredible Messi is.

One man team?

Sad to see the coach throw in the towel here. No Messi. Taking off Xavi and Iniesta.

Big. Fat. White. Flag.

What are Barca playing for now?

GAME OVER.

what the hell happened to mighty barca? playing shit like arsenal!

Bayern happend.

Seriously Bayern deserve it..they are a top team and rightly in final.

Barca will have be there next season competing and probably winning things, but they are not alone top anymore...other teams like Bayern and BVB, Real are stronger and playing top football.

Bayern barely beat arsenal this season over two legs and bayern lost to chelsea last year. Barca have gone down IMO.

Some changes needs to be made at barca

Fact of the day:

Cesc Fabregas has progressed further in the Champions League with Eboue, Hleb and Almunia in his side...than with Xavi, Iniesta & Messi

End of a cycle, time to start fresh again and this time build a side that supports rather than relies on Messi to win games.

A new central defender or two and a proper target striker in the squad to give alternatives against really good defenses and Barcelona is back.

More like build a team that doesn't pass the ball to death the whole game and have more than just one boring plan.

It's an end of a cycle for Barça. This was highlighted by Messi being injured.

I've never seen them look so toothless up front and with all that possession without purpose... Even without Messi, I was hoping Iniesta and Xavi would step up.

But Bayern's been just formidable. It was a very big margin, but overall it isn't a bad thing to go out to such brilliant opposition.

the semifinal was lost in first game...

i wouldn´t say it´s over for Barca, they just didn´t manage one game against Bayern away...one very important game...

I think the side that beat us in 2009 was probably them at their very best, I think we were pretty special at that point but they made mince meat of us that night.

Yeah, SAF has always claimed most great sides last a cycle of 4 years and it seems to be the case here, even then this Barcelona only really needs a tune-up similar to the one they got in 2008.

revamping the defence and CF.

.

They were obviously excellent, but I think Fergie really screwed the tactics on that match. Add that Van der Sar actually had a bit of a horror show, we should have put up a better fight.

Then again, that ws the team that absolutely destroyed Madrid, so clearly did have top top quality.

Was close for me. The top of the Ronaldinho team was more exciting and had something more about it, but the Xavi/Iniesta/Messi peak was utterly dominant too, in that they'd just keep the ball til you feel asleep then walk it in. And there was nothing you could do about it.

Not at all a hater myself. Was always a Barca fan until this team emerged. I truly couldn't like them one bit. The whole world can bang on forever about their style but I just cannot get myself to like it. Find it a total turn off. I do not like this pass the ball to death, cutback and walk it in the net style.

No Messi was like a throwing white towel... Anyway cycle is over indeed, it was over when Pep left, but he left a legacy with Tito was able to use - a record start of La Liga. Barce needs a reboot and a big summer transfer campaign, some players out some in.

No Messi was fantastic because Messi is injured and needs rest.
Seeing Messi in Munchen was a sore to the eyes. He should never have played there.
Yesterday Barcelona realised that in the long term it would be better to play this match without him.
