FC Barcelona Thread

For my own peace of mind, how high would you guys rate Busquets? Just I said he's probably one of if not the best player in his position (I consider him as a DM) but my mate's I'm currently with don't rate him, opinions? :)

One of the most technically DMF I have ever seen, though he lacks a bit in the physical aspect and he's specially weak in air play. But positionally and in terms of vision and tactics he's a genius.

His main problem is that for some years he has acted like an idiot and cheated a lot. Note that in the last year he has drastically changed that behavior but he abused so much of it that I wouldnt put him in the top 3 only because of it. If he behaves correctly some more time I cohld change this and put him at the top, though.

He needs to improve his long passing!

This is basically word for word what I was trying to get into them! But they've taken their opinions based on how the media represents him, the arrogant play acting side of his game. I blame the English media for his lack of credit for his role in barcelonas success.

he's simply the perfect fit for that role in Barça. he's as great at what he does as anybody in that position and like most of the unsung heroes of football, underrated only by typical flashy attacker/star player fans that unfortunately correspond to the majority.

Cesc 's 1st hat-trick then, I thought they would struggle abit. That pass from Cesc to Sanchez was special and Sanchez did well to control the ball into the net.

Good question.

Busquets will remain where he is. It's Cesc who will replace Xavi in a few years.

It's more likely he'll replace Iniesta, he just seems to not have the same controlling influence on this side as Xavi. He's been far better as a striker or second striker, he doesn't have the patience to dictate a game like Xavi or Busquets, he's much more direct IMO.

I agree, though has Iniesta not been playing LW most of this season? I dont fully understand this choice, he's always seemed at his strongest when adding the 'thrust' in the middle after Xavi has got the game going at his pace.

Also what's Cristian Tello actually like on a weekly basis? I don't get to watch as much football as I would like, so my opinion is basically of seeing him burst on the scene in the Champions League with two goals vs Bayer Leverkusen and the all destroying ST who scored 600+goals in 150 ish appearances for ny FUT 12 Barca B team :P

PSG gave Barca a good match, did'nt expect them to have so much hitting Barca on the break.
Barca a bit lucky to be in the last 4, but still a great last 4 now left.

Hoping for a Bayern-Barca semi, which would be the purist dream of football.

The team is sustaining exclusively on Messi for more than a year. Iniesta may play like an angle but his numbers are terrible in big matches, while Xavi is a shadow of what he was and one of the main reasons the defense is statistically the worst in the last 60 years.

When Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta can't do pressing or run at all for large periods of time, the opponents feel free to creat ecounters and find spaces, specially in the DMF position where Busquets is out of place trying to fill the gaps left by others.

So, if Messi is fit we may win the trophy, but we depend entirely on him. Not a good sign.

As a team we need to find balance again and I doubt we can play with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc at the same time, our defense resents too much.

Another problem is that we play with 2 offensive sidebacks (Alves and Alba) taht leave the defense too exposed. We need to recover a defensive sideback like Abidal who allows to play 3 CBs when we attack. We would loose depth on the left, but it's more worrying to be so exposed as we are this seasons. Any team can score against us at any moment and renders useless our efforts upfront.

So it's a matter of balance and I would clearly take Xavi out of the equation. We don't need possession over 70% to win and in the last months Xavi is offering only this, possession. No risky passing, no assists, no steals, no interceptions, no fight... Iniesta may rule on his own the midfield with the help of Leo.

That's my 2 cents, which will be highly criticized by a lot of Barça's fans. But that's clearly what's happening.

Well Alex, who am i to disagree with you, but i remember one genius pass from Xavi against Milan in the second leg.
I know that one genius pass is not enough output for a player like him, but aren't you just not being a fan here ? Most fans (including me) are bound to be over pessimistic about their own team.

About yesterday. Do you really think Messi changed the game ? I'm not so sure. He was pretty average (compared tho his usual sky high standars). I think Barcelona could have scored the equaliser without him too.

Just read that is injury is worse now... IMO Barcelona are over reliant on Messi....
