English Premier League thread

Just read this thing, apparently no team has ever beaten All 3 of Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier league since its inception and ended up relegated. So if Wolves do go down which doesn't exactly look unlikely at this point, they will make history! Lol :D

Wolves are a weird team.
They were very, very good against the top teams but threw it away against litle clubs. I hope they stay up, because at times they played good football.

Apparently if the following results happen:

14th May
Blackburn lose to Man Utd
Blackpool beat Bolton
Sunderland draw with Wolves

15th May
Birmingham lose to Fulham
Wigan lose to West Ham

22nd May
Spurs beat Birmingham
Wolves beat Blackburn
Man Utd beat Blackpool
Stoke lose to Wigan
West Ham beat Sunderland

Then Wolves would have 41 points, but Birmingham, Blackburn, Blackpool, Wigan and West Ham would all have 39 points.

It would only really sperate (and save) Blackburn, the rest are as follows:

Birmingham -18
Wolves -21
Blackpool -22
Wigan -23
West Ham -23

If Birmingham lose both they go to at least -20, if West Ham win both they go to at least -21, Blackburn would have to lose 3 or 4 nil in both of their games to get dragged into the 39 pts problem on goal difference.

On another note it seems that Foster's retired from the England team. Seems silly for the obvious second choice keeper to do that imo, I know Birmingham will be in Europe next season but it's hardly burnout. You never know when an injury or loss of form might make him first choice for the National team.

Good article with a team of the season (there are dozens of other possibilities). Must say i agree with most of the choices:

Van der Sar
Sagna
Vidic
Kompany
Baines
Tioté
Parker
Modric
Dempsey
Nani
Tevez

Subs: Al-Habsi - Aaron Hughes - Robert Huth - Gareth Bale - Van der Vaart - Samir Nasri - Drogba.

I miss the American of Bolton who is injured, IMO he was superb.
Suarez could also be in that team.

Suarez, Chicharito even Berbatov all should be ahead of Drogba on the bench in my opinion.

Robert Huth and Aaron Hughes having good seasons but shouldn't be there in my opinion. There are better options and ultimately they're just not quite good enough.

Sagna at right-back is an iffy one too... he's good but there are probably better options or ones who give him some real competition. I like him though. Good player overall and actually under-rated by most. Not sure if he's best one in league however. Zabaleta's done better for me to name one.

Overall, good team though and yeah I agree with most of the choices as well.

Stuart Holden.

He was having a magnificent year indeed.

Such a shame he got injured the way he did, but he was graceful in how he dealt with it and bears no ill feelings towards Jonny Evans. Made me respect him even more.

PLF, i completely forgot about Chicharito...he should be in the team. I think he got a bigger impact than Tevez.

No I wouldn't say bigger impact than Tevez. It's just Hernandez' was more 'unexpected' to most people so he gets extra plaudits for it. Tevez has been amazing and rightfully deserves to be in that team. I was saying Chicharito should be on the bench ahead of Drogba definitely!

Fuck!! F'n Man Utd couldn't beat F'n Blackburn!!

Now it looks like I'm gonna miss out on like $500 because of GOAL difference!!

In order for Blackburn to go down, 4 matches have to go other teams' way now and that's a bit unlikely.... there's still hope though!

1) Birmingham needs to get a result at White Hart Lane!

2) Blackpool needs to beat Man Utd

3) Wolves of course need to take care of direct rivals Blackburn by beating them which I think they can

4) Wigan need to take care of Stoke

Not impossible but very unlikely all those things happen. :/

Somehow i hope Blackpool and Wolves stay up, IMO they played good football (but really should learn how to defend).

MAn Utd fans will not like it, but IMO Rooney goal was never a penalty..i've seen it 3 or 4 times and IMO Robinson never touches Chicarito. Of course such a challenge is not very wise, because a GK should know that there is a big possibility for a penalty.

But in all fairness: Man Utd deserve to be champions, so in the end this penalty might only be important for the relegation battle...

Well said on all accounts!

And yah I'm with you on Blackpool and Wolves. Though Wigan play some good football at times too which isn't surprising either given the type of talent at their disposal. N'Zogbia, Victor Moses, Rodallega, Ben Watson, McCarthy, etc.

West Ham of course played some good football this season but never got much 'results' which is bad for them and ultimately they paid for.

But yeah Birmingham and Stoke play the worst football in the league I think. Difference is, Tony Pulis is the getting the job done for Stoke and Birmingham despite some decent investment aren't apart from that little Carling Cup.

They really shouldn't be in this bad a situation Birmingham and were fairly comfortable a couple months back but it's like that championship harmed them rather than help them instead. It was the beginning of bad things for them AND Arsenal you can say.. which is weird and interesting... both clubs suffered after Carling Cup Final.

I, too would like Ollie and Mick McCarthy to get the job done and celebrate.

I hope Blackburn go down but it's looking a little unlikely now....

I would say Odemwinge should be in with a shout for the team of the season or at least a place on the bench.

True.

And the best signing is between him and Chicharito. He was even cheaper and actually had a much bigger profile so I don't know how WBA pulled off that one, but they really did themselves proud there! With his goals, they stayed up and now either keep a great striker in him for next season or sell him and make good profit off him as well! THAT's good investment and win-win situation!

I'd be amazed if he was in it, it'll be the usual suspects.

Who votes for the team of the year, is it the players?

Birmingham City you won't be missed.

Feel sorry for Blackpool.

I have the same sentiments tobi: feel also sorry for Blackpool. Would have preferred Blackburn to go down.

I'm happy for Wolves and Wigan who at times played very good football.

I will not miss Birmingham, but i hope Ben Foster can find a good team for next season.

Well, I'm the opposite, I will miss Birmingham and the rivalry between them and Villa. Don't care too much about B'Pool honestly.

Charlie Adam is a really good player, should go to the Spurs.

that was quick ,but he knew it was coming. On paper they looked the strongest too! This changing of bosses is just woeful from winning the double to getting sacked! :COAT:

i wonder when Abramovich get´s tired of all this... :D

50 milions for one goal for example..

You stay classy Roman Abramovich.

Hiddinck will be confirmed as Director Of Football after Turkey game and Van Basten will follow as coach.

Abramovich really is a classless muppet.
