eFootball (All Platforms)

When I was still in contact with people connected to the local Hong Kong Konami office (at least 5 years ago), I heard that myClub was making a lot of money (it sounded like at least 10 times the revenue from game sales). At the time, they gave an example of someone spending around HK$10,000 (around £1000) in a single week to draw players.

In the past, I wouldn't have agreed with bundling Master League and Edit Mode together. Even with just an Edit Mode, you could add kits for unlicensed teams in eFootball for online use (similar to what ePatch and PES 2021 Lite do now). However, Konami seems to have made no moves on this, which is speechless and makes one feel that they only care about making money from cards and have disregarded all other things enhancing the authenticity.

eFootball-Roadmap.jpeg

This year is the 30th anniversary and a World Cup year, which is why I was anticipating the return of offline modes.

Looking back at their old roadmap, the one they released in 2021, they've only just completed the things planned for Autumn 2021 with the recent version 4.4. The cross-platform matches and mobile controller support they wanted to do in Winter have likely been cancelled (because they need to run their eSports competitions on two separate platforms).

Fed up of waiting for Master League too, so I installed PES 2021 on my PS5 Pro earlier. Picked up with an old Master League I'd started. Played about 4 games, which is about as many games I've played on EFootball this year. Only stopped because I had to make dinner! Just wish PES 2021 still had the UEFA Champions League and Europa League licencing from earlier years. Made it so much better when qualifying for those with the music and branding.

It really is baffling... I mean, how hard can it be to add a simple editor and offline modes as DLC? It's been 4 years already, it should be easy money, it just goes to show how little they care about us offline players who carried the franchise all through out the PS1 and PS2 eras, even the PS3 one since that had no microtransactions either despite the online modes being a bigger deal. It seems like they'll do the same they did for the 2022 World Cup, an even with a ton of cards, without even following a proper World Cup structure with groups, top goals scorers and assists... nothing. Anyone else remember that? I gave it a shot and didn't enjoy it much, but whatever, at least it's better than nothing, so let me go and replay it since I liked it so much... oh, wait, it's literally lost media, just like everything eFootball's had so far. I loved going back to older titles, it's like a time capsule to a previous season, it's fun!

This is just going to be the option we have going forward, sticking to previous titles with mods/patches on PC, and option files on PS4/PS5, the PES titles that seem to get the most attention are often the ones that ended cycles, so we'll mostly stick with Winning Eleven 2002, PES 6, PES 2013 and PES 2021, a good set I think, it's just a big shame how this is the peak of the genre, no more looking forward to something truly new, getting excited for it, it sucks...

This is what I miss the most. The end of summer & you're getting excited for the next PES, eagerly looking forward to the demo & playing it to death before release and talking about it on here. It was always my favorite time of year whether the game was good or bad.

Efootball has barely changed since release. It's had minor incremental updates. No graphical overhaul, same engine & gameplay. It never feels fresh or new. It's an empty shell and yet millions are still lapping it up & spending big money.
You can't really fault Konami for pivoting their business model because it's obviously been very successful.
The lack of effort they put in though is genuinely disgusting. It's everything wrong with modern gaming.

I have no love for FIFA/EA FC but at least that fan base still have the yearly excitement of a new game, good or bad.

It's crazy that PES2021 has better graphics than EFootball. Even though I enjoy the gameplay of EFootball, there's no incentive to play more than 1 game every so often as someone who doesn't play online. FC25 is visually very impressive and shows what can be achieved with the current gen, but even though I actually enjoyed it (as it has a proper career mode) the gameplay is just not PES, so back to Master League on 2021. I am rubbish at it though, even on Professional. My ML I rejoined was only about 30 games in to my first season (I got 2021 on disc in about 2022 when I realised it would be the final ever PES so not played nearly as much as 2020). I was 3rd in the Championship with QPR and through to semi final of FA Cup having beaten Man City 1-0. Most of my players are rated below 70. Top player is 73. Played about 10 matches yesterday. Drew about 3 and lost the rest. Scored about 5 goals. All came in 3 games. Lost to Spurs on the FA Cup 2-0. Now about 10th on the Championship with about 7 games left. I've hit a bad rut of form which happens to me on every PES then everything just clicks and I become decent at it again! Hopefully today so I can sneak back into the playoffs.

Look right now to PES 2021, its still a brilliant game, great visuals, great gameplay, superb modding.

If Konami wants, they could create an excellent football game; they have great player models in eFootball and know how to make a Master League.

BUT they won't !!!

They want as much money with a minimum effort, in programming, marketing, publishing... they don't want you to play a league with authentic teams.

They want you to pay for bullshit cards and nothing more! Even that Bullshit Card game focus ruins the gameplay.

Can I install PES 2021 ON MY PS5 IF I BOUGHT IT ON PS4?

eFootball will never have modding allowed on consoles because they could not sell any other pack they have or coins, because by modding you get anything or better of what the make, for free, and beeing already a free game, modding is not a viable option anymore. that's a fact.

Hope this kind of post is allowed, apologies if not, but we're currently looking for new players for GPSL, an online eFootball league, where only PA3 and PA4 is allowed, and you build your own team using GP. The league comes with its own transfer market and a limited budget, so every squad is unique, and you will never face more than one of each player. Season 1 is currently underway, but we're building our second division. Currently six out of 20 players signed up so still spaces! More info here:

The market either needs authentic mode to do really well, or a new IP to come in which is totally focused on providing a football sim (as much as possible whilst keeping the fun). They'll need to make a point of the fact this is a game for people who want to replicate the feelings of a football match virtually, not a competitive or dream/FUT game based on football. Their whole USP will have to be around being the CS to Val as an example.

What I don't get is in other genres (shooters, racing, strategy) there are plenty of hardcore sims on the market. Sure they're not as popular as the top titles, but enough to be commercially viable and having dedicated thriving communities.

Football is the world's most popular sport so it's mad that there haven't even been any attempts. I get licensing is a barrier, but even golf, cricket and tennis have had alternative sims.

Even if it had 2005 graphics and entirely fake names, if it played well I'm sure there would be loads of interest. I'd like to see BigAnt studios have a go. It would be ugly and janky, but I'm sure they'd come up with some fresh mechanics.

I think the main problem would be that developing a serious football game, given the intrinsic, complicated nature of the sport, is arguably way harder than other genres or even other sport kinds.

In my opinion the interest would be there as well (I mean, somebody came out with a Pes 5 clone with a better AI and some modern mechanic? I'd go shut up and take my money, and I'm sure I'd not be the only one), but there probably isn't an indie/small/not top studio that is both passionate enough about making a non licensed football sim and willing to economically risk embarking in this kind of adventure. Over the years, I have hoped to be proven wrong and to finally see somebody give a shot at it, just to ultimately having to accept it's probably not happening any time soon if ever. It's like this duopoly killed even the basic idea of trying.

pes 2021 PC with evoweb editing community is still the best choice (now you can download pes2021 PC for free with the name of Football life 2025... and soon also the new pes2021 updated to next season, Football life 2026...
(On PC game-play mods and the sider add-on with lua modules, are the secret for longevity)
There isn't need for a new super pc to play this...

sincerely I don't understand why people still wait something of special by a FREE GAME AS eFootball. €football is only a pes2021.exe reduced and adapted for a bad free engine for smartphone with players skating without any soul that show what this "game" really is ... a free machine for smatrphones and cross platform to make money without fatigue, that it make online frustrations through its scripted net-code that creates addictive to buy new players cards

I'd love a company to bring out an arcade style ISS type game. Surely that would do well, and wouldn't require a load of licensing?

SFOT
How much weight of this patch on HDD with all or almost all stuff included ?

But can someone explain to me why KONAMI pays for any kind of licences .... for BVB lets say.

If all idiots who are playing the game are buying those cards, why even need for licences ... you just need player licence for cards, not teams.

To hype up little fortnie kiddies, so they can use mommys credit card and buy shiny new cards!
Thats my best guess.

It's funny cause most of the stuff i've seen in social media, it's the adults that spend most money on this game.
It has never been kids who spent the most on these games. While you have occasions where the whole stealing credit card happens, the target group is players who actually have money to spend, so people with a job, who also have less time to grind for rewards and then skip ahead with buying.

That's why im cringe when some people kinda "blaming" the kids for the current state of football games. I dont get it.

I would definitely buy a game with with only fake teams and fake names if it's editable and with good gameplay. If I was making such a game I'd even release customisable editing tools so people can import players from football manager.

How about the adults ? they're the one who most spending cash into this casino game. Would you blame them too ? 🤔

Dont be that old man that yelling at the cloud.

If you're smart enough, you know damn well it's not kids that make all decision in efootball current development. It's the old man/adult konami executives that make this game so bad for offline players.

Please tell me how it's the kids fault ? 🤔

Btw i dont care for other games, we're at efootball thread so only football games that i care 🤷🏻
I agree with you. 100% its the fault of these greedy companies. And most kids nowadays dont even know how good gaming was before.

My original post was about Fortnite that started all this microtransaction and battlepass bs, clearly targeting kids. But you are right Konami turned me into a grumpy old man 🤣

The funny thing is that Fortnite is actually the opposite of e football. A lot of content for free, lots of different modes, free editor for players to create their own content and monetisation based on Skins. :D
