EA SPORTS FC 27

So you're calling modern football games unplayable, and then it turns out you literally didn't play any football games in the last 6 years?
What has changed in the last 6 years? What did he miss?

Let's see - on Konami side its only eFootball - a mobile game casino.

On EA side? They lost Fifa license and every game is basically the same crap, with a lot of catchy buzzwords, but no real differences in gameplay.

Its not early 2000's, where 6 years absence from football games would actually mean something

And honestly I can say that many old soccer games with outdated graphics and old game design and with using old limited game engines - are playing even now much more cool, with much more alive emotions inside, with much more cool "attempt to catch football details on the pitch" ...

I am sure, that some users of evoweb too wil be agree with me in this statement; those, who is trying to see "not only perfect modern picture, created by powerful modern hi-cost videocard", but "eccense of soccer", "catched in old game" by those developers, that found right game instruments in representing of this feeling.

PES 3, PES 5 - was such "fresh air breath" after some popular FIFA-s of those time ... Because this games really tryed exactly "catch feeling of true soccer" and did it!

I played Yesterday two games of FIFA 17.
The ball physics, the CPU behaviour, the intelligent fouls. What a game !

On legend, it was really awesome with default sliders.
But the good sign, it's for the first time for years, except the heaviness of the player and a ball with less freedom sometimes, I have this feeling on the FC 27 beta.

In two weeks, I hope it will be a good surprise because footy games now are not fun at all.

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a PS5—mainly in anticipation of GTA VI—and I'm debating whether to pick up EA Sports FC 27.
My situation:
* Last football games played: PS4-era FIFA and eFootball 2021.
* My main concern: The PS4-generation football titles felt incredibly underwhelming to me. I'm worried about dropping money on FC 27 only to find out it’s just the same old engine wrapped in a slightly shinier 4K coat of paint.
For those playing on PS5:
* Is the "Authentic" simulation pitch gameplay actually better/more realistic, or is it still driven by heavy scripting, ping-pong passing, and arcade pace?
* Does the jump to PS5 hardware feel like a genuine generational leap for sports games, or will I just end up feeling like it's no different than what we had on PS4?
* Is it worth it for a casual player, or am I guaranteed to have an underwhelming experience yet again?

Appreciate honest feedback before I spend the cash! Cheers.
Authentic gameplay is one thing, but (especially the new) sliders give you many ways to address pace, passing/buildup speed and precision.

Animation in general is still not as fluid as movements in PES, but is no gamebreaker anymore and the variety is great. Graphics are pretty much the same level as PS4 in 4K.

So with a little invest in settings there is much to discover.

what graphical improvement? All I saw were downgrades since FIFA 23.

I totally agree; even FIFA 17 looks better—and with the graphics mod from @chojanpineapple , it eats the FC games for breakfast because it looks like next-gen. The FC games are shifting toward a cartoonish style; the question is whether that was the developers' intention.

is the second guy implying that they have separate animations for authentic mode? surely I've misunderstood what he was trying to say
I think he (Rivera) is saying that the animations play out more in Authentic, vs Competitive (where they're more manipulated for responsiveness).

It does worry me a little how the reason for Authentic is so often explained as "for the unpredictability of football". It makes me worry they don't know what we really want from it. Of course that's part of it, but I don't feel like I can predict what simple pass inputs will be "translated" as by the game, which gives the ball random physics so that it's always the perfect pass... That's fairly "unpredictable" but not realistic!

The player models in EAFC 27 look so plastic whether from a distance or close up. Everything looks plastic including the stadiums and the crowds. FIFA 16-19 had better graphics in terms of textures and the latter in particular is probably the best the game as looked (despite probably having the most flaws out of the 4 titles.)

Regarding the authentic mode, other than making it slower and making players more hesistant to contribute full-out offensively, it's far from authentic. Everything, even on FUMA, is just too easy to pull off. I say this as someone who struggles on World Class on FIFA 16 so I'm by no means an expert player. In EAFC 27, you rarely miss a pass and it doesn't matter if you bump first touch error to the max, almost every player has expert level of control. There's little to no scrappiness and playing with EFL League 2 teams only has the effect of shooting being a little less accurate and they make the players slower, other than that the EFL League 2 teams are full of players that could step into the national teams with their incredible flawless technique.

It shouldn't be a case that you make someone like Bellingham or Haaland super-human to set them apart. They should just be technically adept and good at the things they're good at in real life but EAFC 27 basically just has super-hero players and super-super-hero players.

Sam Rivera is the reason why FIFA/FC is going downhill. Once he is removed from his position, the game can return. At this point, I don't mind holding a petition to get him removed. He has never watch a football match and is extremely clueless on how to make a fun football video game.

For those with access to the beta, how have you found fouling and physicality from the CPU?

FC26 didn’t land with me for a few reasons but the lack of fouls was a massive issue.

If there is an increase in fouling, is it realistic or do they just hack you down to bump up the numbers?

Thanks in advance 👍🏻

I don't think it'd be fair to answer definitively, especially as EA said they were looking to patch it (after they factually did just randomly hack you down at the start of the beta despite hinting that wouldn't be the case).

What I would say, and it applies to anyone with questions like these (especially when personal preference comes into it), is that EA have promised a free demo version will be available from release day, so you should be able to test it for yourself.

Its not really personal preference tho, Chris, is it?
Personal preference would be to use a team with red kits..
Having fouls in football game is just basics of the sport. I fully understand what you meant, but I think that over the years our perception of football games got so warped that we take obvious things as improvements..

I've never like the conversation around 'fouls'. For me, it's not really about the fouls themselves - it's about creating more physical engagement between the players and creating a proper fight for the ball. Importantly, it needs to be one that can present a range of outcomes. The foul should just be a byproduct of a deep physical system. It comes back to creating the right mechanics and this goes way beyond fouls.

I can't stand the way fouls are called in PES 2021 for example. I feel like way too often when two players interact, it's immediately called as a foul. For me, that actually reduces the physical engagement and the possible gameplay outcomes.

I feel like EA hear players want fouls, so we end up with this weird situation where the CPU is just mindlessly fouling for the sake of giving a foul which really doesn't improve the depth of the gameplay.

100% with you on that. Lack of fouls is not the root cause to the problem. Its a symptom. An outcome of no physicality, no randomness, stand off-ish and dumb AI and ball being glued to players feet preventing any tackling error.

I absolutely hated fouls in Pes21 being called for almost any player interaction.
But people usually talk about symptoms and thats understandable.

Lack of fouls is my huge gripe in nowadays football games, but you are 100% that this is not the actual problem.

But imagine if somebody asked you 10-20 years ago - "are there fouls in new Pes/Fifa game?"
You'd be like "what sort of a question is this.. its a football game.."

Completely agree! It should be down to the developer to reverse the feedback to a place of meaningful development and depth. What strikes me the most about the talk of authentic mode is the lack of discussion around foundations. I don't doubt EA do actually care and are actually trying, but I feel like if they really understand the audience, they'd know that we actually want to hear the 'boring' details, because they are what matter most - they've what we've been missing for all these years. When we're talking about players slipping over in the wet about 50 seconds into the authentic mode talk, it just doesn't fill me with confidence haha.

I dont know if its the lack of understanding, or the fact that they dont have enough time and flexibility to tackle the actual issues with yearly releases, the constraints of the engine and core gameplay. Maybe all they can do is to tackle the symptoms. But they do need to understand that this will never bring the game back to an actual authentic experience that we are craving.

And they should never feel like "We are the purists that are never happy." We just want a football game that make sense.

Going back to fouls as an example to elaborate - Pes17 was the most physical Pes entry in the last 10 years. Defending was impactful, satisfying and AI was bloodthirsty at times. Red cards would happen quite often. But the fouls made sense. And they would happen naturally. Some of the matches I didnt have any and it was ok.
We never even had these discussions in the past, because fouls were just there, in the background, as a natural part of the sport.

It's because the game is designed for the purpose of fun and convience so as a result, players have a generous amount of time and space on the ball and can release effective passes with ease before another player can press which is why we have this "just get it to the opposition box" end to end style, the only hope of a turn over is more hoping the attackers make an error or less so than being dispossed by defenders because of how inconsequential attacking is as opposed to defending.

1v1 and FCIQ are contributing factors to this with the forcefield feeling of a team not being allowed to naturally engage with a ball carrier bar 1 defender, of which by the time you've controlled him, dragged him from his shackles of the zone pulling him away, the ball has already moved on.

I'm talking about vanilla FC of course too, but that's generally the philosophy of EA with FC now, they want it to feel like a fun accessible kickabout where the player feels like they've done something productive in their match rather than it being an attritional battle accross the pitch to earn your chances and goals.

1. To echo what Chris said, You cannot use the beta and likely the initial release to say whether it is good or not OR if it has what you want. They have already said there will be changes from the beta to the full release. What I didnt understand is that they said this whilst the beta was still live... why not release the changes to the beta for feedback?!
2. The beta did have more physicality and better closing down in authentic mode than FC26, it was closer to FIFA 17 levels of AI defending
3. The downside of the beta is that it was like someone turned on KILL_EVERYONE, the AI was very dumb, if not worse than previous use of this setting. Lots of random slide tackles rather than a close down and bundle you over like real life football.

PES5 was a ballhair away from being the best game ever, but from memory, was ruined by constant FK's for every interaction, was so stop start, even the introduction of handballs was great, but in reality, it just disrupted the flow of the game. now we have the opposite, can count on one hand the amount of penalties ive had in game since PES20 until now

1 Yes they said they will maid some changes for the release.
But in patch 3 in the beta, the CPU made less dumb killing random sliding tackle from behind and in middle.

2. I'm pleased to read you have the same feeling for the physicality. I didn't expect that from an actual FIFA/ FC games.

3. Because of the too quick pass speed, I didn't used the vanilla Authentic sliders after 8 matchs. I didn't think I will fully pleased with these settings. But if the sliders are still powerful like the beta, I can live with it.

EA with a nice game could selling more games to offline players. The career mode reboot since last year is a good sign.

We didn't want the Moon : only a game with physical, fouls, penaltys, injuries, red cards, harder goals, long ranges too, a CPU behaviour with a minimum of variations.

For a multi billions company working since 30 years in footy games, it's only a minimum for 80 boxes!

The FKs were fine tbh, it was the lack of advantage rule. If it had that, would have been the best ever.

There are fouls but they don't make any sense. The CPU will foul you but there's no rhyme or reason for it such as the game has been physical or it's trying to stop you from building up an attack. So yes, I'd go with there's fouls to bump up the numbers because none of the fouls I've encountered make any tactical/response type of sense.

I have 5 penalties in my last 7 matchs on the beta. And the fouls were real : a strong shoulder mouv in the surface from the defender, a pulling shirt, a sliding tackle too short, a great dribble and the Cpu hurt my leg, and a tackle from behind by the last defender.

After the third patch, the fouls logical was better. In the beggining, i agree, the fouls for 50% were too random.

The game is not perfect at all but there is a middle. In one week, the game will be out, people can play it and made their own point of view.

For those who have played the beta, have the keepers been improved compared to FC 26?

I’ve seen some footage of on YouTube and from what I can tell, they still won’t come out much on 1v1? This is really is a gamebreaking issue for me I can’t believe why they won’t fix it on authentic mode

The goalkeepers animations are better and they cover more angles. He will boxe the ball more often than in previous FC.
In 70-80%, they will go out in 1 vs 1 situation without your help if the CPU attacks. Sometimes you need to press the triangle button on PS5.
in FC 26, the GK goes out only in 40-50%.

It's better but not perfect.
