"FIFA 17 while it lacks the better player faces and the models are kinda janky for what they are"It's actually crazy how much worse the graphics have gotten, they're almost cartoonish with the lighting which is annoying. Everything seems too saturated or contrasted, especially at night time. NBA2k suffers from the same issue where 2k14 on the PS4/XB1 and then 2k21 on the PS5/XSX looked really good and seemed like there was true fidelity leaps just for them to look plastic and too smooth. FIFA 17 while it lacks the better player faces and the models are kinda janky for what they are, the games atmosphere feels more lifelike and authentic
Objectively, I don't mind the competitive gameplay when I wanna turn my brain off and play for a fun. It's not a serious mode for how upset people get over at the times haha. Honestly I wish that they'd add in a mode or alternative rivals type where you can play under authentic conditions with snow/rain and wind effects. Something that's more grounded than the brain dead ADHD gameplay that can be fun, but I can't subject myself to it 24/7
I agree that the player faces weren't the best, but the player models themselves looked far better in FIFA 17 than they do in any EA Sports FC game, at least to me. The body proportions felt much more natural, with just the right amount of artistic interpretation to make the players look convincingly human, much like the older games on old hardware, if you look at those older player models from the PS2 era, they all kind of look like Matryoshka dolls but they had enough of that stylization that you never questioned or felt like it was ugly or immersion braking, you believed those were the real players, in EAFC, that is NOT the case.
Especially when you're playing with ICONS and see someone like R9 running with some kind of "panic run" animation where he clenches his fists in a very cartoonish and dramatic fashion and makes very weird looking fast short strides that look nothing like his running style and with those big clown feet that EA calls "boots" and then even starts weaving his head left and right when his stamina runs out to express how "tired he is"(how cute)..... this is ridiculous and cartoonish and stupid to look at unless you are much younger and just starting to play these games. I just can't look at that because it's very immersion breaking, it's unplayable to me and this did not exist until they started pushing that HyperMotion crap into the game. Hence the name "hyper-motion" everything is very hyper and jittery...These new EA devs really thinks that is "realism"......I truly believe the vast majority of devs who work on EAFC nowadays have absolutely zero idea or passion about football and players.
And also it feels like they're trying too hard to add anatomical detail, and the result looks horrendous. The players in FC all look weird to me with oddly thin legs whether they are male or female, they all have the same looking legs, oddly bent knees, and for some reason, oversized buttocks. It looks silly, especially once they start running around looking like Shakira out there on that pitch, which also does not look good(the pitch I mean, not Shakira, just to be clear) imo but I won't get into the graphics of these horrible games, but FIFA 17 lighting and colors were miles ahead of any other game they made since, especially FC games....and that was their first ever Frostbite FIFA...make it make sense...
