EA SPORTS FC 27

It's actually crazy how much worse the graphics have gotten, they're almost cartoonish with the lighting which is annoying. Everything seems too saturated or contrasted, especially at night time. NBA2k suffers from the same issue where 2k14 on the PS4/XB1 and then 2k21 on the PS5/XSX looked really good and seemed like there was true fidelity leaps just for them to look plastic and too smooth. FIFA 17 while it lacks the better player faces and the models are kinda janky for what they are, the games atmosphere feels more lifelike and authentic

Objectively, I don't mind the competitive gameplay when I wanna turn my brain off and play for a fun. It's not a serious mode for how upset people get over at the times haha. Honestly I wish that they'd add in a mode or alternative rivals type where you can play under authentic conditions with snow/rain and wind effects. Something that's more grounded than the brain dead ADHD gameplay that can be fun, but I can't subject myself to it 24/7
"FIFA 17 while it lacks the better player faces and the models are kinda janky for what they are"

I agree that the player faces weren't the best, but the player models themselves looked far better in FIFA 17 than they do in any EA Sports FC game, at least to me. The body proportions felt much more natural, with just the right amount of artistic interpretation to make the players look convincingly human, much like the older games on old hardware, if you look at those older player models from the PS2 era, they all kind of look like Matryoshka dolls but they had enough of that stylization that you never questioned or felt like it was ugly or immersion braking, you believed those were the real players, in EAFC, that is NOT the case.

Especially when you're playing with ICONS and see someone like R9 running with some kind of "panic run" animation where he clenches his fists in a very cartoonish and dramatic fashion and makes very weird looking fast short strides that look nothing like his running style and with those big clown feet that EA calls "boots" and then even starts weaving his head left and right when his stamina runs out to express how "tired he is"(how cute)..... this is ridiculous and cartoonish and stupid to look at unless you are much younger and just starting to play these games. I just can't look at that because it's very immersion breaking, it's unplayable to me and this did not exist until they started pushing that HyperMotion crap into the game. Hence the name "hyper-motion" everything is very hyper and jittery...These new EA devs really thinks that is "realism"......I truly believe the vast majority of devs who work on EAFC nowadays have absolutely zero idea or passion about football and players.

And also it feels like they're trying too hard to add anatomical detail, and the result looks horrendous. The players in FC all look weird to me with oddly thin legs whether they are male or female, they all have the same looking legs, oddly bent knees, and for some reason, oversized buttocks. It looks silly, especially once they start running around looking like Shakira out there on that pitch, which also does not look good(the pitch I mean, not Shakira, just to be clear) imo but I won't get into the graphics of these horrible games, but FIFA 17 lighting and colors were miles ahead of any other game they made since, especially FC games....and that was their first ever Frostbite FIFA...make it make sense...

A "FIFA YouTuber" angrily reviewing Pitch Notes, if you all fancy a giggle :)

This guy has been loving FIFA 17 which is full of "AI defending" and compressed midfield. The thing they fail to realize is that instead of complaining about nerfing AI defense, they want to boost AI attacking intelligence because FIFA 17 had the best attacking AI intelligence in any FIFA game with very accurate sense of space evaluation.

It's a shame FUT can't be played with Authentic Gameplay mode, no idea why that's not possible. It's basically like having the option to only find opponents using manual controls, that's still a thing right?
Id imagine their cash cow fut mainly comprises of kids and mostly young adults, and in the day and age where patience come rare, a long methodical football simulator that lacks instant dopamine is just not a viable business model.

Hey friend, do you know where I can get FIFA 17? I couldn't find it in any other store.

He's also been loving eFootball for the same reason. This is what I don't understand. I've seen an influx of eFootball content recently from FUT streamers who are loving the game and how the AI actually do what they're supposed to. Yet EA are going in the total opposite direction?

He still cries about AI defending in eFootball. To be honest, their demands are absolutely so contradictory that I get why the game mode has gone to shit. They want smart AI in one phase of the game and the dumbest AI in another.

In the modern age that's not a nice word to use.

Irrelevant. The point still stands.

It's not just cartoonish, it's straight up gross looking. The modern games also suffer from smear artifacts during motion and has this weird soft shadow below the players on in direct lighting scenes. But the shadows in real life looks nothing like that. In fact, on older games like FIFA 12, where there were barely any shadows on such lighting conditions- it looked more realistic than this.

Guys, customers drive the product. FC series is the current SOTA for football games, so you should go and make the influencers reason about what they want from a game. 1:1 with reality is not possible even if it is technically feasible due to game length, ca 60 Mins of effective time, and player skills (if passing have to take in account position, stamina, and everything it would have been unplayable.

Honestly, I really want to know what happened to EA FC’s color grading. Why does the game look so exaggerated and cartoonish? Was this visual direction intentional? Did the developers deliberately push the game toward a Fortnite-like look, or is it simply the result of poor artistic taste? It’s unbelievable that we now have to get frustrated even about the game’s color grading. When I watch EA FC, it feels as if cartoon characters are moving around on the pitch.

And don’t even get me started on the player modeling. The scale of the problem is hard to describe. So many years have passed, and the developers still haven’t reached even the minimum standards for realistic body modeling in a football simulation. What is actually happening inside the EA FC development team? Why is there so much stagnation and so little visible progress?

HOaSJVnWgAAb0_F.jpg HOaXTj4XsAE_Dp6.jpg

Game engines and development tools have advanced enormously, yet the developers still seem stuck on the most basic foundations of building a convincing football simulation, repeating the same shortcomings year after year. Just look at the body modeling in the PES series. Look at Coutinho’s model, for example. That series had at least reached a respectable standard in this area. And I have to say it: the Lighting and color grading and HDR presentation in PES 2019 were excellent.

Konami used Enlighten technology in PES 2019 the same technology designed for Global Illumination and natural indirect light bounce. As a result, sunlight, stadium floodlights, shadows, and even the colors of the grass and the stands looked far more natural and believable. PES 2019 also added support for 4K and HDR, which significantly improved the overall visual presentation, color depth, and lighting quality. That is one of the reasons why many players still consider PES 2019 to have one of the best lighting and color-grading systems ever seen in a football game.

HOerX2BWQAAHdFz.jpg images.jpg

I honestly feel like we’ve lost everything. The problems are not one or two isolated issues. Wherever you look, there is an ocean of design problems across the EA FC series, and there is barely any sign of hope. The developers don’t seem to pay special attention to either player modeling or the game’s color grading. And the lighting system is another huge discussion on its own. A large part of it still feels outdated and heavily static, especially during overcast daytime matches, where the lighting on many surfaces appears to be rendered in a static, pre-baked way rather than reacting dynamically to the environment.

✍️🎮 First Impressions of the AUTHENTIC 2.0 Gameplay in the #FC27 BETA:

💪 The Authentic 2.0 Gameplay is pretty good—it reminds me of the gameplay we had in the early days of FC26, but quite improved.

✅ The pace of the game is perfect.

⭐ The difference between player types is noticeable. The fast one, the technical one, and the strong one.

🎯 Ball control is once again the protagonist. The CPU takes its time to create plays and make the most of its key players.

🧤 The bad point remains the goalkeepers: in this case, the goalkeepers still don't come out of the goal in 1vs1 situations, just like in FC26.

🔂 Another bad point is the excess of crosses by the CPU—in some cases, they have options to shoot and prefer to deliver a long cross to the player on the other side with no options to shoot at goal.

⚽ Now in crosses and corner kicks, we can choose whether we want to withdraw or add a player to the play (in the box).

❤️ We have a new interface to view the starting 11.

🎬 New cinematic sequences of LEGEND players in the stands. (I got to see David Beckham at the Santiago Bernabéu.)

🎮 One last detail about the AUTHENTIC 2.0 Gameplay after playing the #FC27 Beta

✅ As we know, there is the AI setting in Tactical or Dynamic. In this edition, the best setting is still the AI in Tactical.

▶️ Tactical: The CPU attacks and defends much more intelligently when making decisions. And you can feel the difference when facing PSG or Real Madrid.

💪 And finally, in FC26 one of the complaints was that the CPU didn't commit fouls or sliding tackles. In this edition, the CPU commits light and heavy fouls. And they also make several sliding tackles per match.

This is really interesting to me - an official response to the revival (by the community) of servers for games like FIFA 17:

(Are "custom gameplay live events" just challenges essentially?)

Sounds promising. Also, the fact that CPU are crossing a lot is awesome, despite the negative example given. Better than them getting the byline and then passing their way into the box, refusing to ever cross.

But as he says, it's choosing to cross to a player with no opportunity instead of taking on a clear opportunity... That's never good.

It sounds like they've either taken the typical "AI isn't doing something, so let's make them do it all the time" response - or (more likely IMO), the really strict adherence to tactics @Topaz has mentioned, when players ignore blatantly obvious choices a footballer would make 100% of the time because of the tactics, and do something totally disadvantageous to themselves. FCIQ is majorly flawed in that way.

Whatever the reason, when you see the AI miss an opportunity "on purpose", it absolutely stinks of "fakeness" and takes you out of the experience immediately.

I haven't played 27, but right now, if you could say to the AI "try to beat me", it wouldn't need to do the plethora of things you need to do in order to win a football match.

There is a simple, practically guaranteed formula for the AI to score in every single game within FC gameplay's current framework - where passes are never off-target and defenders don't defend - which is to laser-pass a few times and create a tap-in. Hence why (as you said) the AI would get to a certain position and refuse to cross; it knows that would just pointlessly give up possession. If you knew crosses were pointless (and they often are in football games), you wouldn't cross either.

But to require the AI to seriously "think" and have to cross sometimes - like in the PES 6 and earlier days, because the framework both you and the AI had to work with was much less convoluted and with realistic defensive and positional principles, plus off-target passes - would be a lot of work.

So instead, we get the AI "pretending"...

I was hoping for a more glowing reaction to Authentic 2.0, I must say (and the goalkeeper point is one I often don't think about, but is so true - another "eSport", "no AI" casualty).

WYM CPU doesn't commit fouls in 26 they are straight up murderous at times

I will try to report on an important matter here sorry if it doesn't come out so well.
In the trailer, in a short segment, Fenerbahçe vs. Real Madrid is shown. Check.
Fenerbahçe has white shorts and socks identical to Real Madrid's. Why doesn't EA use a kit mixing system that already existed in...
PES 5 and allowed combinations?
Besides being something that would look sensational for realism, it would make playing much easier for us. There are certain kits that become confusing and hard to distinguish. In my view, it’s not a superfluous addition; it’s a FIFA rule, according to which pieces cannot be the same.

Nowadays, with the advancement of technology, they could develop a much more advanced system with the numerous combinations that teams actually use.
People need to request this on social media or the official forum, so the developers know that the community is interested.
Apparently the kit manufacturers don't like the idea of mixing the home, away and third kits with each other. Nowadays, big teams actually have individual alternative shorts and socks for each kit with matching application colors and crests. They'd probably be happy to see those items in the game, but that would be a lot more work for EA.

I disagree somewhat with your first point. The UT guys are pretty unanimous in wanting less AI defending and more focus on attacking. They were really happy with how FC26 came out. They do not want a simulation of football but more like an eSports game based on football. I believe EA should pivot to making UT a F2P game and making career mode and "authentic gameplay" a paid game. This way they keep their cash cow with packs and FC points but have a financial interest in making good simulation gameplay.
I take your point. Maybe it is wishful thinking on my behalf.

But when I look at the engagement on tweets like the following (our rules only allow me to embed 10 in one post, but there's far more), it personally leads me to believe that outside of the hardcore FUT players, your average Joe (who isn't nerdy enough to spend their time filling in surveys or writing up opinions of a video game) doesn't want end-to-end non-football simplicity:

(And by the way, most aren't toxic - just sad.)

Translation: "Everything related to EA FC 27 scares me. I foresee the worst game in the franchise's history. EA is doing everything the pro players want. Coming up: a faster game, with worse defences, stolen corners, impossible passes, and zero realism. Concerning."

Translation: "This game looks worse and worse, I don't understand. The video is horrible."

Translation: "The competitive scene has ruined this game forever, because this is being celebrated. After all, a more manual defence means skill is taken more into account, and that makes sense in competitive play. But it's things like these that have been completely destroying the game for years."

Translation: "And this whole 'AI defence' thing is something that's been brought up since the acclaimed FIFA 17, which, curiously, was the first one with a competitive mode. And then they have no clue why the game got worse and isn't 'realistic' like it used to be any more."

Translation: "That 14-second thing is so realistic, where the fullback completely stops marking just because you're not controlling him. FC27 is going to be the worst 'soccer' game in history, a game made by people who don't understand absolutely anything about the sport."

It's such a strange one hey. There's two groups of people who think they're having the same conversation when they're not. One is looking at it purely from the perspective of FC as a multiplayer online game and the other is looking at it as a representation of the sport. This really needs to be made more clear in all of the messaging from EA.

It is confusing, it's like they want no friction at all to score goals and to me that doesn't sound fun. Like yeah I enjoy stomping people but it also gets old really fast. I don't enjoy the 8-6 scorelines, I like having the satisfaction of a well built up goal and finishing 2-1, 1-0, etc. It's been hard to find joy in that style of play with how braindead the attacking AI has been and how overpowered counter football has been. Especially since the invention of their awful awful roles system

The YouTube algorithm has got me, another video to share but I'll move to a certain part for me to rage at here.

This has to be the most oddball take of the game of football. So what mr AA9skillz, they should just remove corners from the game? 'Cos "people are pissed about corners" (don't know who he is referring to?) think its "not football". Give me a break. Try watching League 2 football, guarantee you'd like throw a hissy fit at how bad players are at that level that they resort to any tactic to win, including corners and the dark arts.

Yeh that line about 'no one asked for new corner kick system' is being repeated. Anyone who's played the game for the last few years is aware putting the ball in the box was (mostly) pointless. Everyone takes a short corner because it's more effective/cheap tactics.

Maybe those who like to cheese the game never complained, but that doesn't mean it didn't need a massive revamp.

The guy was glazing Rafael Leao throughout the WC. Anyone who watched Portugal this WC, would know how shit Leao was playing throughout. So you get what his take on FC would be.

But is the latter just in terms of off-the-pitch stuff?

Career Mode sounds like it'll be great - I doubt it will need that kind of focus. I wish Authentic gameplay had a year-long development "road map". But then, would changes to physics / FCIQ / goalkeeper logic etc. be a realistic change outside of a new release? Almost definitely not, I imagine; but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I wonder why there isn’t someone, like Andreas, who communicates anything related to Authentic Gameplay.
Or someone else who handles tactics and FC IQ.
The only thing that works fairly well is thanks to this one person, who takes the time to reply to the community while everyone else stays silent.
