Come on PBB, you must of played this last night! Lets hear what you think of it.
Aye, played it all night!
Really is superb, but like I said, I am a bit biased as I love these sort of rhythm games.
The music is the most important thing I guess and thankfully it excellent on the whole - and I'm not a massive fan of dance music (I'm a rocker!), but I've been humming a lot of the tunes today.
Also, some songs really suck you in, so if you've seen anyone from the dev team play this, you can see they are really into it (like bobbing their heads and looking really relaxed) - well at times, it really does grab you like that. I found myself really into it and as the music is generally uplifting, it does make you feel happy and in the party mood!
The peripheral is excellent - great build quality and no probs so far (and bonus the 360 doesnt need a bloody dongle like the PS3!). The cross-fader is a little hard to get right as it is so loose (as I think it is on real decks), so its easy to slide to far to the other track sometimes, but it will come with practice.
The scratching and rewinds are dead fun, but if I had to say the game had a big problem its the illusion of scratching. The scratching noise is actually part of the song, so you aren't *actually* scratching the track, more just replicating the action when the section comes up. Bit hard to explain but its a bit disheartening when you miss a scratch and the sound plays anyway.
If you can ignore that (and you do 99% of the time), then its very engaging.
Graphics are excellent - models, venues and crowds all better than anything in GH and RB, but its a moot point I suppose as you are always focussed on the streams.
Difficulty is weird.
I went straight to medium after doing the opening tutorials and for the most part, its hard enough. But when you try hard, the game really feels much more immersive (like on GH when you go up to the harder levels, you actually feel you are playing the real notes). Well the same here, there is much more to do in the harder level and it is all in time with the music, so it gives you a better feeling - BUT, its pretty hard to pull off. So much going on - it will have you cross-fading, scratching and pressing alt combos of the buttons at the same time!
I can pass lots of the hard levels (though you cannot fail any) with 3, some 4 stars, but its painful.
Christ knows what extreme is like!
I like the fact there is no failing in the game as it means you can progress without frustration and just enjoy the music - what it becomes then is not 'if you can beat the song', but 'how high can you score' which is much more fun and something GH/RB should have been instead of booting you out the song 95% through it and having to start again.
Not tried online yet, but the leaderboards are a nice addition.
So overall, is it worth it? Its relative I suppose - if you have £90 spare and wanna take a punt, then for me, its a no brainer. Its superb fun and something very different to RB/GH - the fact its score based too gives it longevity.
That said, £90 is a lot of money for most people, so I fear this will really get overlooked and after all the other guitar games, has missed the boat a bit I suppose. How many plastic toys can one house hold? (for the record, my room now has 3 guitars, 2 drum kits - and one 'real' drum kit, a steering wheel, 5 microphones and now a turntable

this is meant to be my 'office')
