Creating A New Football Game

Should we make an arcady soccer game or a realistic one?

  • Arcady Game (Much quicker and easier to make, higher probability of a released game)

  • Realistic Game (Will take much longer and lower probability of being released)

Whenever someone decides to open a real crowdfunding, I'm going to support the project.
That's just a dog biting its tail though (I don't know if this saying is also used in English but I know that you'll understand, I'm italian too 😜).
Without something to showcase, the project won't have any financial support (or, if any, very very little)...
Without financial support, on the other hand, it's difficult to build something to showcase. Not everyone is willing to sacrifice his/her free time/money in order to build something that may (or may not) see the light down the line, God knows when.

This being said, I think that the latter is the way to go:
Team up > Waste some time/money > Build something to showcase (even basilar) > Set your goals (what do we want to achieve? When?) > Crowdfunding.

Let's make a couple of screenshots with Unreal, some mock-up UI with Photoshop, and a YouTube video talking about "making a new, fantastic football game", than the crowdfunding can start! Reminds something?...

If somebody is already paying for that "game", I dream we could earn enough money to start this thread's project just saying "we want to make a realistic football game without online bullsh*t, taking inspiration from old PES games with full moddability/customization":WOOT:...

Ha, very good! He obviously read this thread. :))

The game need job conditions(features) to mantain the job conditional (the game)
SO to know how to start otherwise u can use rhe "interscope" feature as the player 'stand crouched' that he needs to balance himself to recieve the ball and this can be a good start.

The player to accomplish is to compile .

Hi all,

I came across this thread, and one idea in it stayed with me: someone should build something first, then show it. So I tried.

I'm doing this alone. I used AI coding (Claude Code) to build a football game for Mac. The AI wrote all the code. I decided what the game should be like, tested it, and said what felt wrong. Without AI, I could not have done this alone. It made the work much easier.

The logo and some art were made with ChatGPT. The player models were made with Tripo. The game is developed with AI, based on the source code of Gameplay Football by Bastiaan Konings Schuiling (public domain).

Here is a 50-second video of what came out:

A few screenshots are below.

It is not available to download yet. I'd like to ask the builders here:
  1. If you tried to make a game before and stopped, what stopped you? Could AI have helped?
  2. What part of a football game would you never trust AI to get right?

I was trying to create soccer game in 2011-2013 based on directx9 but I gave up because someone would need to dedicate all his life to implement such game without AI support. 2 months ago I back, thinking that with help of AI I can continue my project. The main issue is lack of good rigged model of player character. You need to have good model because in blender you will create animation (I created about 20 animations in 2011-2013) and if model isn't good enough (vertices of model aren't painted with proper bones weight, density of vertices isn't properly set in various areas of body) then there are many artefacts when you move leg, hand. And this sucks. This was my model. I remember I spend about 3 months in Blender modeling it and finally it wasn't good enough for animations:) Then I thought OK for soccer game this model isn't enough good so maybe better to make athletics game but I didn't have enough motivation and I put off project. But in general it is nice time to work on this even if you know that you won't finish it.
