Re: Chelsea FC thread

You said it yourself. The goal (in this case, Maradona's) shouldn't have stood. Then the game could have been different from then on etc.

CD, i think we surprised a lot of people tonight, including ourselves and Barcelona. Nobody would have predicted that we would score that many goals. I think had we lost, we would have been hard done by, after that performance, but Barcelona just didn't convert all their chances. Eto had a perfect opportunity late on. I don't think anyone can take away the fact that we fought hard tonight, and that we had a big stake in claiming the right to go through over the 2 legs. And i mean that sincerely. Forget the childish comments you may read. I haven't seen us do something like that in a long time, if ever. I was so emotional by the end. It dwarfed the Arsenal game.

peace.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Just want to point out that Carvalho was at an offside position during the Terry goal. He was behind the GK, meaning he was offside.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Hmm interesting, but wasnt there a guy on the line, a post player? I need to see a replay.

yes thre is, but if a player is behind the GK, hes offside automatically.

Not saying anything about Chelsea's performance... just pointing it out.

And boy was Ronnie pissed off at the end.

Not only that, Carvalho was grabbing Valdes, so it was also a foul...

Great game though.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Congrats to chelski.
Naturally some say that barça should deserved to pass or chelsea. But don't forget that this was the game between IMO the best 2 teams in europe. It had to be a tight game were the details made the difference.

*Wonders who is the next opponent!*

Carvalho didn't touched the ball neither did he went for it, so it doesn't make any difference.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

hahaha, Chelsea won without Robben! imagine when Robben is back, he gonna terrorize defences. the triple is on!

does anyone know why guily came on so late?

he had injury, but he was fit to play
just poor tactics by rijkaard by not starting Maxi Lopez instead of iniesta.

Gio van b. was getting burned by Joe Cole, :lmao: he had to come off.

once again Mourinho proves his a master tactician!

Re: Chelsea FC thread

like professor Nutmeg said we fought hard and at the end of the game we get the result.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

chelsea was lucky, if they was up against an italian side, they wud of never concided 4 goals.. chelsea r just the luckiest team in the world

Re: Chelsea FC thread

What a pity that one of these two teams is already eliminated (would have sais the same thing if Chelsea was eliminated).
It was a great great match from both sides.
Yes it was a penalty and yes carvalho committed a foul on Valdez. But nevertheless Chelsea deserve to go through. They (like Braca) played a wonderfull match. Of course everybody talks about that second Ronaldinho goal...of course it's wonderfull, but Chelsea third goal is to me the essence of football, ligthening quick, pinpoint accurate combination football. The best goal i saw in a long long time.
People who say in this thread that Chelsea going throug is due to luck are biased, blind or had eaten peculiar shrimps while watching. Both teams were great, it was a close match, some decisions were controversial but accept the result and stop being childish (like for example the previous poster).
And one more thing stop criticising referees, every team "cheats" so don't moan about the cheating of your opponents and the referees. Collina did a great job yesterday considering that the match was play ligthening quick and that he had to take decisions in a split second. I would like to see other people on that pitch as a referee, boy would that be a joke.

Congratulatios Chelsea, well done you (also) deserved it.
I'm sorry for Barca i hope you will have better luck next year

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Well I'm kinda glad Barca got their cumuppence after their Donetsk showing. That's what happens if you want to be un-professional (like Rijkaard and Ronaldinho doing a Flippo at the end for some reason).

I think over the two games, the better team went out, however Chelsea plugged away and sometimes you get a decision, other times you don't. Drogba should've been sent-off, it's par for the course in Europe, seems if you fart near a player you get booked. Penalty, stone-waller, I lambasted Bobo Balde who did the exact same thing to knock us out of qualifying for the next phase against Lyon, no doubts it was a penalty. As for the Terry goal, I thought it was a clear foul, however goalies get too much protection anyway.

Thought Cech, Cole and Kezman where excellent, however Lampard and Terry where the daddies last night. Ronaldinho and Deco only came in fits, Eto'o was very poor and I thought Xavi had what I can only describe as his worst game for Barca that I've saw, if I recall he made a howler for the 1st goal.

p.s. CD, Argentina didn't beat England by 2 goals, they won 2-1 in Mexico 86.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

The amusing thing is the statement Ronaldinho made a few days ago. He said that every English club would get knocked out. I dislike players that get too involved with the media and don't concentrate soley on their football.

Yeah but Argentina won by 2 goals, that goal didn't decide anything - a silly comparison.

I know this is off topic but you're wrong. The final score was 2-1 to Argentina so in effect the hand of god goal was crucial.

Anyway, last nights game was one of the best I have ever seen, it had everything. On one hand it was nice to see Ronaldinho eat his words but on the other I feel the best team over the 2 legs lost. Your winning goal should never have stood, a clear foul on Valdes. However, lets give credit to Chelsea's performance, you stuck with it in the second half, to give yourself a chance, which you took. Terry was immense. :applause:

Can I also say the Ronny's second goal was one the best goals of the season, cheeky, classy and genius.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

What about Huth last night too, eh, in the last few minutes. He came on and just headed that ball away every time to the usual call of "HUUUUUTH". So satisfying to see. That boy's a giant.

Report - GOAL.COM

John Terry’s headed winner with fifteen minutes remaining, securing an incredible 5-4 aggregate victory for the hosts, led to ugly scenes immediately after the goal and final whistle. Blaugrana players vehemently complained that Ricardo Carvalho had impeded Barca ‘keeper Valdez during the crucial set piece – but replays suggested otherwise.

I dont see any problem.... do you?

Was Stevie Wonder the reporter by any chance? Anyone who say's Carvalho didn't impede the goalie is talking out their shitter. Not that I really care anyway for Barca.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

About the Rijkaard - Ronaldinho accident, Rijkaard was yesterdaynight interviewed by the dutch TV and he said that a steward called eto'o a monkey and thats why Ronaldinho and he reacted so strongly. But Rijkaard also said that there were absolutly no hard remarks from Chelsea..

Re: Chelsea FC thread

well, nice that this one's finally cleared up. btw after seeing the tv coverage yesterday, i definetly agree that there was a foul (to bring this scene up again) or at least a bit of pushing on v. valdes, as well as an offside position like milanista said earlier. but nevertheless, chelseas showed more spirit and finally got rewarded for their furious start with three goals in 20 minutes. what a blunder by eto'o, he had the matchball on his feets.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

After read a news @ planetfootball, I just want to say something about Eto'o, what a loser he is, he better face the result. (Im not talking the monkey thing)

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o has launched an astonishing attack on Chelsea following last night's unforgettable Champions League encounter.

The Catalan giants crashed to a 4-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge to go out 5-4 on aggregate and the bitter war of words between the clubs that preceeded the game is showing no signs of slowing down afterwards.

Their Cameroon striker blasted Chelsea's style of play, their excess money, their manager Jose Mourinho and the match referee Pierluigi Collina.

"We were the only team that wanted to play football. Chelsea going through is a disaster for football,’’ he raged.

"And if this team wins the Champions League, it would make you want to retire.

"With so much money and so many players, what they do is not football."

He continued: "Mourinho is shameless, at the end they followed his game, did what he wanted, although this time I suppose he will have appeared in the press conference."

Finally he said: "Collina helped Chelsea, he denied me a clear penalty and in the fourth goal they fouled Victor Valdes, but those things happen."

Wtf, what penalty? Is he talking about Carvalho's brilliant challenge, someone ought to buy that dumbass a television set. And wasn't he too considering joining CFC last summer? Hypocrite.

Re: Chelsea FC thread

Good result for Chelsea, Terry's goal never should of stood. Shame the football that has been played has been overshadowed by the petty spats(from both sides).

And for all their attacking flair(which i like very much) Barca have no decent CB's, that Oleguer guy is like what Almunia is to Arsenal....

Re: Chelsea FC thread

ok let me ask ua question, wud chelsea had scored 4 gaosl against ac milan at stamford bridge?

barca have a defence similer 2 arsenal, bloody redicolous and crap
