Boxing Talk!!

There was an awesome fight in the semi finals of a tournament that is televised here in the UK. It was Travis Dickinson vs Matty Clarkson, really recommend that one if you can get to watch it

Yet to watch Marquez vs Alvarado

Tried to grab Marquez/Alvarado but can't connect to your server PLacebo :SS

managed to grab it else where, was a good scrap.

The finals of ESPN2's Boxcino tournament. Commentary by Joe Tessitore, Teddy Atlas, Todd Grisham, interviews by Bernardo Osuna.

Brandon Adams (14-0-0) vs Willie Monroe Jr (17-1-0)6/10
Vacant NABA Middleweight Title ~
Vacant NABO WBO Middleweight Title ~

Adams had him Monroe hurt but could not capitalize. Monroe just outboxed him. The step on the foot tactic works even if you get hit with the lightest punch. I had it done to me years ago.

Petr Petrov (34-4-2) vs Fernando Carcamo (17-5-0)6.3/10
Vacant NABA Lightweight Title ~
Interim WBO NABO Lightweight Title ~

Petrov needs to get on the undercard of some boxing after dark cards. I don`t always agree with Atlas but his analysis during the 7th rd was spot on and told the story for the whole fight.

Pretty good tournament but not on the level of a Super Six which had a mix of A and B class fighters. Boxing needs more tournaments. Even though it will never happen a Super Six welterweight tournament with a field of Pac, Mayweather, Thurman, Porter, Garcia, and Bradley would breathe new life into the sport.

WBC Light Heavyweight Title ~:APPLAUD: Worth a watch

Great fight card. Highly recommended.

Really looking forward to this one.

I just cant see Froch getting KO'd. I can see Groves being more smart and winning on points by a wide margin. A Froch win by KO/TKO late on wouldn't surprise me in the slightest however

Tough fight to predict. I would like to see Groves win as the sport needs some new young stars. Froch is super tough with a iron chin. Groves needs to be sharp with everything to beat the cagey veteran. The atmosphere will be unreal!

I too am really looking forward to the fight. I have it ordered on Box Office to watch it live tonight.

I think the biggest buzz that surrounds the fight is that Groves got to Froch last time, so whilst most people seem to think Froch will take the victory, it's not that clear cut. Anything could happen.

Saw the weigh in pics and Froch is in absolutely ridiculous shape, huge props have to go to him to get into that shape at his age, hope Groves is bringing his A game else he'll be in trouble, can only hope that Froch has over trained and left it all in the gym!

I just can't see Groves hurting Carl like he did last time, Froch won't be as naive to come straight forward this time and look to box a little more.

I hope Groves wins but more confident now that Froch will stop him at some point.

BANG! WHAT A RIGHT HAND.

Spoiler for Froch v Groves:

Wowzers! What a punch, was slowly working his way back into it but I didn't think he could do it with one punch, very good performance, Groves started well but as soon as he stopped forcing Froch to respect/fear his power he was essentially doomed, going to be a long road back.

Haven't watched the rest of the UK card yet, hoping to see the De Gale fight.

Watched Donaire v Vetyeka fight as well which was entertaining:
it was obvious once he knocked him down that he'd get it to the next round and stop it so it'd go to the scorecard but credit to Donaire for his honest interview and hopefully there'll be a rematch soon.

I watched Ringside last night, Froch put it as the best right hand he's ever connected with. It was a beauty

Some decent bouts this weekend with Hall vs Butler, then later on Martinez vs Cotto

Funny the Alan Shearer lookalike at ringside on his laptop completely missing it...

Yeah looking forward to the Cotto Martinez fight, seen some people say they're not remotely interested and it shouldn't be PPV etc etc personally I think it's a very intriguing matchup, Cotto potentially becoming the first Puerto Rican to win world titles at 4 weight classes, Martinez coming back to his best if he's fully fit etc. etc.

There was a New Zealand HW tournament similar to Prizefighter in the week, sounds like a pretty decent lineup:

Anthony Nansen
Hasim Rahman
Brice Ritani-Coe
Alonzo Butler
Kali Meehan
Hunter Sam
Michael Sprott
Martin Rogan

Main Event: Sergio Martinez vs. Miguel Cotto, 12 Rounds, WBC Middleweight Title
Marvin Sonsona vs. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., 10 Rounds, Junior Featherweight
Jorge Melendez vs. Javier Maciel, 10 Rounds, Junior Middleweight
Andy Lee vs. John Jackson, 10 Rounds, Junior Middleweight

:)

Grabbed the full card in SD for anyone who wants it, includes the non-televised fights plus three undercard fights (first two are well worth watching, just started the third) plus of course the main event :)

Masterclass from Cotto, Martinez looks done.

For me it was 100% his knee that made it a relatively easy fight for Cotto, Martinez had no mobility, no agility, his right knee being unresponsive like that is what left him open to the left hook so much, meant his own punches had next to no pop on them either.

That said, great performance from Cotto, seems to be back to something like his best, certainly the Cotto of a few years ago, be interesting to see who he fights next :)

Great performance by Andy Lee as well! Was getting comprehensively outboxed, looked like he and Adam Booth had made a terrible decision to drop him down a weight and choose this opponent, then booooom! 2nd fight was also really enjoyable and I'm glad the judges didn't ruin a great performance by giving it to the "home" fighter. Third fight sadly was rather poor.

Brilliant performance by Cotto. Martinez looks pretty shot now, difficult to tell how he would have been without the 3 first round knockdowns but take nothing away from Cotto he looked great.

Anyone else see Andy Lee's KO in the undercard? that really was a great punch!
