How to get them to play more long balls and chipped through balls?
My issue is that even teams like everton very rarely play long speculative balls into space

Like often when a team presses a centre back and the CB distributes to their FB, the FB will look up and try and play a high ball to the CF making a run in between opposition FB & CB

Hey guys long time no see.
I heard FC25 is the exact same arcade garbage as the previous years.. It doesn't have fouls and free kicks at all. Some guy reported that he played a full season and got two fouls in 20 games. The only way to create them is to have handballs checked.
Ahh... garbage I'm not even going to bother with EA anymore. I guess PES is the same. The last one I tried was probably 22 and it was junk.
Just thinking about installing FIFA 16 back. It was the best EA ever made (with our adjustmets it was actually very good game).
But the last time I tried I couldn't make it work. Has anyone made a EXE patch for it that bypasses the Origin?

While FC25 vanilla is a mess, I think Anth did a good job fixing it well beyond what seemed possible. I haven't tried it personally, though, so I can't be more specific.
Since you left, Fifa 16 has finally been cracked, but unfortunately the cracked version was 1.7. Talking about 1.0 (or 1.1), the game has become nearly impossible to obtain, as the prices of keys have skyrocketed.
Since I know that you liked it years ago, I'll say something about PES5/WE9(LE): in the last few years, many great kitserver modules emerged, thanks to the very talented people working on PES5. While it's less modern and polished than Fifa16, I think Pes5 remains one of the greatest football games of all time as far as simulation and balanced gameplay are concerned. The elephant in the room, though, remains its dreadful attacking AI, but the game is truly great when played against a real human being

This. I haven't had much time to play it this year, but what Anth and other modders did makes it day and night compared to the default FC25. This might sound like a blasphemy (at least in this thread for sure), but it probably beats FIFA16 in terms of representation of football, at least in my view.

Oh absolutely. PES5 is a legend. I don't even know how many hundreds of hours I played it. I still host some PES utilities in my Mediafire and they have surprisingly good download numbers. Still. People still play it which is amazing.
We had a widescreen and I did some radical roster changes to the game (like decreased the agility dramatically, etc) it improved the game even more. I think PES5 might still be the best ever football game.
Ironically PES6 was a downgrade in many ways. It only had better yellow card engine. But still it was way more popuilar among the modders. Never understood why as it was clearly inferior game.
But then again FIFA 16 took graphics and some other things to completely new level. We did those things to 1.0 that actually transformed the game. Ciais is a modding genius and he could do basically anything to any game (he also modified NHL04 rebuilt which was the best hockey game for PC for a long time... I think it still is That guy did some AMAZING things to it because all menus were html/js).
I love PES forever but I don't think I can go back to it anymore because visually it's a bit like going back to your grandpa's closet and borrowing his 70's suit.
I installed the 2022 World Cup patch to FIFA 16... pure genius. I love that. But then the game stopped working with Origin and I quit playing all football games. Just playing so much of those driving sims nowadays. Now after watching some of our old gameplay videos I got the "itch" again.
After FIFA 16 the graphics haven't dramatically improved. 16 is still a modern game in almost every way. I think it has a slight edge over PES5 all things considered. I loved the cutscenes and some small little nyances it had.
I can't put my finger on it but the modded FIFA 1.0 had the same "genuine football atmoshphere" that PES5 had. You just had the "realistic vibe". Of course neither of those games were perfect but sometimes it's hard to define things with numbers. It just had THAT vibe. Those two are the only football games that somehow captured it... I can't really explain it but as an junior ex-player I got "into the mood" with them. With our mods scoring was actually difficult and you genuinely lost games without having a feel of being cheated. In most other games you simply become too good and that's it.
I don't remember what year of PES I played but when the AI got the last minute corner kick they ALWAYS scored. Like 90% percentage which was laughable. I think they don't even care about offline AI anymore.
I tried all new FIFAs and PES games til' 2023 (I think) and then I simply gave up. They're all absolute trash. I watched some videos of FC 25 and thanks but no thanks. EA screwed the F1 series too. They actually made a great game in F1 2020 when the game was still manufactured by Codemasters. Then EA completely took over and the series has been downgraded every year. Same with the NHL series, etc.
Sometimes I wonder how masses won't see the nasty realism issues at all. Maybe they don't care and realism wouldn't sell. I guess PES6 outsold PES5 also because it was "more fun", huh?
Too bad that there is no 1.0 EXE patch. Damn.
PS: Look at the stats of this old tournament I shared. About 10 fouls (average) in every game. Some games even had 15-20. That's what Ciais did. I don't remember how though. It's been a while.
Here's some random gameplay vid I still have. We managed to increase shots going wide, improved the goalies, reduced players agility dramatically, slowed down the overall pace (we calculated how fast the players can actually run from their end to other end), we eliminated complately the easy "through pass" and all that. Many fouls like in real football. A lot of stuff was also done on the sliders.
This game had about 20 fouls (including ET) which is about realistic amount in real football (considering only about 40 min. total playing time). That's more than modern FIFAs have in whole full season hehe.

Great. Did they find a way to create fouls there?
It's kinda sad that we have to ask this same question every year. It's like asking if a hockey game has actual 2 minute minor penalties.

A few years ago Ciais and Marcos created a referee module: it became possible to customize referee strictness, to add custom referees with faces and more! Combine this with the original foul system of pes5 and you have perfection. Then, camerazoomer was also improved. There are a lot of kitserver modules that didn't exist even a few years ago. It's incredible how this 20-year-old game keeps improving thanks to this awesome community
I actually discovered these two games mainly by reading your old posts (and Ciais's ones). Thank you!
You guys did great things with this game.
A few years ago, Anth created a tool with Cheat Engine to improve ball physics, both on 1.00 and 1.7 versions. I think it should work well with the other tweaks

Thanks man. I don't actually remember anymore what 1.07 ruined. Maybe our fouls tweak didn't work on it... but I'm not sure. It definitely downgraded the game somehow. But I can give it a shot.

In my opinion, WE9/PES5, FIFA16 & FIFA14 has the best realization of "footballer + ball". In these games, the ball feels separate from footballer. I have many hours in "attack" mode of challenge training in WE9, it was just as exciting as playing ML. I remember how Barreto from Udinese looks better at beating defenders than more technical players like Cassano or Miccoli…
