Arsenal Thread

hahaha! Look at that!

Possession: (Arsenal) 61% - 39% (Chelsea) that sum it up really. Sit back and try to counter was their Plan A & B approach. Now, Arsenal played fantastic! Djourou kept Drogba silent Wenger`s selection was spot on. Arsenal plays some great football no denying that :BOP:

lol. There's a reason I kept my mouth shut. I honestly saw this coming. Chelsea have been shite to say the least.

What did Fergie said? Oh ,yes! It`s a good time to play Chelsea NOW!

@ bob..Cmon brother! We just lifted the HOODOO mental block tonight. Our away form is the best in the league w/ more wins. Manutd can`t play Home matches every week :JAY:

I'm very happy matey, but this Arsenal team has to convince me a bit more. usually when we play this good a dissapointing game is around the corner, as again they think they don't have to try etc.

I really want to be proved wrong and hopefully this is a huge turning point.

but it definately should give the team the belief they can beat anyone (even though this Chelsea team is crumbling).

I have my fingers crossed we can now get a good long unbeaten run (with lots of wins) together to show we mean business.

But don't get me wrong this is a great result, one we have been waiting a long time to see...so I am extremely happy :DD

Great win! That's one out of the way, in terms of the big games. Now we must beat United at the Emirates. It's all about not giving the contenders all the 6 points, like Arsenal did last season. We've got to make sure we beat Man Utd if we're to mount a decent challenge for the Prem.

Great attitude on them English youngsters! Both Theo and Jack were awesome. And Song, immense!

sack wenger!

Luckily Chelsea didn't feel like playing today, otherwise we would've called for Djourou's/Koscielny's/Clichy's head. It was a convincing home win, no doubt, but our performance was very similar to the one at Chelsea. These kids just have a LITTLE more growing up to do, and they still need more steel and grit, whatever you wanna call it. Wilshere and Song can run our midfield competently, and I'm very happy with the pairing for now.

Putting Walcott in to pin Cole back into his own half was an important decision.

Far more enterprising than the ineffective Arshavin.

Oh dear, dissapointing result right after the Chelsea game....Same old same old.

I know there was alot of changes because of playing games so close together, but still if we want to be champions we need to be winning these games.

Oh well....

Arsenal wasn't good, but cmon, the ref... Man Utd couldn't be left alone in this, so we were fucking ripped off too. Shame on these Prem refs!
That twat Nzogbia's dive and a clear hand ball stopping Nasri's FK. Disappointing.

Aye. Should have retained some of his first eleven, DW's always a hard place to go to. But to be fair to Charles he showed fantastic speed, poise, guile, craft, agility, and so much more to create the pen and a really good performance football-wise. But why oh why did he have to get sent off. Wilshere did nothing, headbutts are unacceptable in the modern game :x

kick in the grill...wenger wrong selection this time.

I thought there was nothing wrong with his selection. In fact, AW was very intelligent using Walcott against Chelsea and fielding a rested Arshavin tonight. Overall, it's very difficult to perform well in 2 games within the space of 72 hours, so he rotated very cleverly.

However I do question, and always will, the selection of Fabianski. Just when he was having a good run of performances and was finally confident today with his saves under the bar, he managed to cock up in the end in what maybe is his greatest flaw: intercepting crosses. He was lost there and let the ball travel over his head TWICE before going in.

To sum it up, not a brilliant Arsenal, but in no way did we deserve to drop points. Main reasons were a weak ref with terrible crucial decisions on penalties, and of course, Fabianski.

Fabianski made a great save though and he did good for most of the game. He got caught out of position an a split second cost us I can except that to be fair. My views on selection is to put Denilson n Diaby in the middle and Bendtner on the wing is putting players on the pitch for minutes. Those players need to be eased on in not starting. Wigan were more intense in a good way. Squillaci is a replacement for Sol/Silvestre not a starter.Djourou deserve to get more games . Wenger knows he made a mistake ...why bring Jack in then take`m out surely the boos couldn`t be the factor . I saw no pressure today ,more like if he gets near my space .Then ,I`ll pressure in a bit :COAT:

Hey guys, does anyone of you know where there's a decent and pretty new Fabianski face for PES 6? I have the one from the Shollym patch, but doesn't really look like him withouth his new hair and beard :) Cheers

Koscielny and Squilacci are simply not good enough for title contenders.

Definately not together anyway. Djouru is much better and when Vermaelen is back I don't think the other two will get a look in unless for resting etc.

But either of them with Djouru seems a bit better and hopefully will be the same with Vermaelen.

As a Belgian i obviously love Vermaelen. He's the captain of our national team and a real example.
Nevertheless i think he was overrated last year. He scored quite a few goals which made him a fans favourite. I'm not sure if he is the key to a better defense. I'm not convinced by his defensive play.
This will be a very difficult season for him. First of all he will come back from a long period of injury. The expectations of the Arsenal fans will be sky high because most fans think Vermaelen will solve all the defensive problems.
I hope i'm wrong, but there is a big chance that Vermaelen will be much criticised in this thread in a couple of months.

I don't think Vermaelen will solve our defensive problems at all, I don't think many Arsenal fans do. That would be ridiculous because we were suspect defensively when he was fit. Alot more attention needs to be made on the defensive side of Arsenal as a whole and then we will be much better defensively.

But I do think Vermaelen is better than Squi and Kos and reads games in the premierleague better. He has more of a presence in defence and although I don't think he is amazing, he is our best defender. I do think Djourou can be better than him though, if he can get alot of games behind him and be consistant.

Anyway, Squi and Kos just don't look good together and I will be much happier when the chances of them playing together are limited and that means Vermaelen coming back.

I heard Vermaelen could play in fullback position n Djourou rather play DM.

Sagna...Djourou...Koc....Vermaelen. What makes Squillaci suspect is his clearly of the ball. He tend to head the ball down instead of up and out. Koc to me provides speed (he`s quick) a good prospect . I think Djourou just had a great game he is not top lvl either. Sometimes players can turn up and become top lvl... We seen that time n time again at the Arsenal.

Djourou was really good last season (I think it was last season?) before he got injured. He has had a coople of games this season when he has looked good and strong. I think he has great potential and we look much stronger at the back with him in.

Arsenal played seven matches with Djourou this season, and they won all seven...i don't understand why Wenger does not play him more often.
Vermaelen can play full back (left side), but i think he's much better as a CB. In the Belgian national team Vermaelen plays left back, he never convinced me (CB: Van Buyten or Lombaerts with certitude Kompany...).
I've already said this i think: Arsenal should buy Jan Vertonghen (Ajax). He can play CB, LB, LMF and DMF. He has a fantastic shot from distance, is a leader on the pitch and most important has played for years with Vermaelen with Ajax and the national youth teams.

Although i prefer Vertonghen as a DMF, he could partner Vermaelen as CB.

I think Wenger is being cautious with his injury prone players which is why he didn't play Djourou and Van Persie against Wigan. Djourou was out for over a year I think so playing 2 games in 3 days would be risky so he did the right thing in my opinion. Arsenal would have won if it wasn't for the referee (a bit like our game) so blaming Wenger's squad rotation is wrong, he made the right call but got bad luck with crucial officiating decisions.

Arsenam should have won that game regardless of referee decisions jumbo. Just like United don't have to blame the referee.
Both teams had enough chances to win regardless refereeing decisions. Blaming the ref is the easy way out...

Yeah Djourou was rested because of the long injury. I also agree with Wengers selection.

I do think you can blame refereeing, games at this level are usually very close (goals wise) so bad decisions from the ref can be the difference between winning or losing really. The decisions not only give another team the upper hand for that moment, but also throughout the game. This is because the team that is hard done by get frustrated and the team that is benefitting have a boost of confidence, plus also they know they can get away with certain things, that they wouldn't do normally.

So in our game a penalty was given that shouldn't have been, so that team gain a goal and a blatant handball wasn't given in the box, that would have given us a goal. So we could be have been 3-1 up, but no we drew 2-2. So you can blame the refereeing.

But on the other hand it is also true that we should have won it anyway, it does work both ways.

I do kind of agree with what you say. We did have other chances to score and put the game to bed, we hit the post twice and Foster had a couple of good saves but at the end of the day, if the referee gets that crucial decision right for their goal then the result is different, so in that sense we can blame the ref.

It's interesting that when it happens to Arsenal and United people say "you can't blame the ref" but when it happens the other way there is endless debate and talk of refs benefitting teams allowing them to win matches and titles etc.
