Arsenal Thread

Just saw the highlights, looks like we were quite lucky in the end. But we need to win games like this more often.

We aren't playing very well at the moment, we need to get better, that is clear.

Cesc was lucky aswell with his challenge. totally unecessary and bad.

Just saw Karl Henry's tackle on Arshavin from the game yesterday?!

I can't believe how Match of the day missed that one out?! how can they show the cesc one and miss that one out, which was alot worse IMO.

Just goes to show when the media has an agenda and picks and chooses what they show and how they report can have a huge influence on people's opinions.

I wonder if Karl went to Arshavin after and apologised? like Cesc did? not saying it makes it better, but shows a bit of class. Karl is going to break somebodies leg one day and I hope he gets what he deserves.

It is different in Karl's situation because it is very much part of his game to make those hard challenges...which are dangerous. Whereas with Cesc they are few and far between. there is a difference imo.

Apparently another one of there players did another really bad challenge and it wasn't shown? Very bad on Match of the day's part to not show both sides.

Yup, disgraceful but this is standard Match of the Day practice Bobby... show highlights to suit their agenda or the point the pundits want to make.

And I thought the BBC were meant to be impartial.

well, henry is old news and cesc doing the odd daft tackle makes better talking pts. When a playmaker does something out of the ordinary its worth mentioning. Our away record is getting sorted great ,but at home its suspect. Fabanski made 2 massive saves I'm still in shock...those flappers are getting stronger lol

Since i watched MOTD,i obviuously did not see Hery's tackle. Cesc definitely should have got a red card for his tackle however. There is no discussion possible about that.

Beautiful centre from Song and Fabianski man of the match.

I doubt many people are discussing about Fabs tackle whether it was fair or not. It was late and dangerous and should have been a red.

But there has been a spate of bad tackles recently and because everybody sees Arsene complaining the most about them (because his players keep on getting injured by them) then they are having a field day with Wilsheres tackle the other week and now Fabs.

The thing is late tack$les do happen. But there are certain players where they make their living from going in hard and not thinking of the concequences. Karl Henry is one of those. I think he has had about 3-4 incidences already this season when he could have easily done a great deal of damage. So if they were going to show one tackle, I feel it should have been Karls because he is a persistant perpetrator of the bad late tackle.

If they are going to make an issue of Fabs challenge (which they should do) then it is only right that they show other bad challenges, especially from the other team.

There needs to be some responsibility from broadcastors to show an even representation. Otherwise people are living off of half truths.

At the moment their are alot of people saying how hypocritical Arsene and Arsenal are? when they complain and their own players make those challenges. So reporters are highlighting even more situations where it can make out, how much of a hypocrite Arsenal are.

When in fact if you look at it, we were complaining about teams committing recklass tackles concentrated on Arsenal. 3 bad breaks in 3 years from bad challenges shows why we were complaining. It is the consistant bad tacklers that need to be shown in their true colours and action must be taken against ALL bad and late tackles, to stop people going for those challenges that may injure people.

Arsenal in the rare occasion they make a bad challenge (bad late, career threatening) are usually very sorry and do not condone it and don't try to justify it. Compare that to other managers and teams who rely on playing 'Tough'.

Mick McCarthys reaction and implying that Arsenal should stop moaning about bad challenges is stupid. Like he was taking the moral highground is ridiculous, when he has a thug on his team.

Late challenges are mistakes every player does them, they are stupid and put players careers at stake. But one horrible challenge a season pretty much shows it was an accident. When you do challenges like that every other week, then it is less of an accident in my opinion.

Anyway, just frustrating to not get the whole picture on the situation.

By the way I think Woles are playing good football and deserve to be higher up the league. They don't need to resort to playing to hard etc.

That is indeed a bad tackle, as bad as Cesc's.
I do agree with your post Bobby.
I personally don't think that Wenger and Arsenal are hypocrite. I know that they have reason to complain.
On the other hand i don't think that it is very intelligent to complain the way Arsène does (and i'm the first to say that he is a very, very intelligent man). The way Arsène goes on about it, every single time an Arsenal player does a remotely dangerous tackle, everybody focusses on that. This is avoidable: stop complaining about other team's tackle.
I have a feeling that i know why some pundits and media are seeing this one sided (like for example the omission of Henry's tackle against Arsenal). I think it is cultural. It is in the nature of the English football game to tackle and to play "on the edge". Look at the way thugs like Vinnie Jones (and Wimbledon as a hole), Savage, Bremner (and Leeds United at the time) are venerated and loved in England. I've read a great book by Vialli on the difference between English and Italian football. Vialli was astonished about the fact that England fans cheered for players who "won" an corner or even a throw in... Wenger is the first who emphasized other skills and tactics for an English team. Hence i think certain people-media-pundits see Arsenal as a thread for the the typical English blue collar footaball... This is most significant with Alan Shearer IMO. I don't agree at all, but Wenger should think about this and change his way of communicating about these tackles.

What do you people think about Essien's red card? Both Match of the day pundits seemed to disagree strongly about this red card. To me it was no wonder that Dixon (former Arsenal player) was the one who defended the ref while Hansen did not agree at all...Personally i don't know: Essien lunged in with two feets which is always a reason to pull a red card, but my instinct tells me that this was not a dangerous challenge... So, im' not sure what i would ahve done...this shows how difficult the task of a referee is.

Ps: i also agree with you Bobby, when you say that Wolves are playing excellent football and don't need this brutal approach. The thing is that they don't have much luck. If they play against lower teams like they played against Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea, they should be ok. But i remains to be seen if theams like Blackburn, Stoke, Bolton e.a. will give them as much freedom as those big teams.

now know why ian wright left bbc MOTD. couldnt take the bias from lineker and his boy friends

Is that what he said?

I love Ian Wright, Arsenal Legend. But as a pundit, I don't think he is very good.

They really need to get rid of Alan Hanson though, he is getting tiresome and just really annoys me. Also Mark Lawrenson to some degree aswell.

Alan Shearer offers nothing aswell. He isn't interesting and shouldn't be a pundit imo.

Lee Dixon seems to be really good imo. I hope he doesn't turn into Hanson/lawrenson type after time.

YouTube - The tackle that did not exist

And Henry broke Zamora's ankle weeks ago...

And Jordi Gomez, the West Brom player, was kicked three feet into the air by Karl Henry. I'm sick of Karl Henry, he's just a one dimensional brute of a player. Fair enough other players occasionally do rash tackles, but this guy is just on another planet, nearly crippling 3 players already this season.

I'm all for a physical game but Henry looks like he's just out to cripple the creative midfielder in every game. It's the same with Cattermole of Sunderland, he nearly cut Modric in two on Tuesday, and he's got previous, he's been sent off for rash challenges twice this season already.

The likes of Cattermole and Henry are persistent offenders, some of the tackles they do are not far off common assault.

Yes what Cattermole did to Modric deserved a red card too (and he already deserved a red card for his two hands against Stoke, so that would have meant four reds this season).

And what about Barton on MG Pedersen...

Yipee! 2 points away from the top (and a bit of goal difference ;)) )

Hopefully we can start playing better and go on a bit of a run.

If Fabianski continues like this, he could be our player of the season. From Zero to Hero in a few months. Like a new player at the moment, please god let him keep it up!

Good work by Flappyhands. Bad play by Djourou though, letting Cahill get a free shot on goal like that. Did anyone find out what happened to Jack? I didn't expect him to leave the pitch so early.

This has been a great weekend for Arsenal...hope for you (and for football) that you can follow that up with a couple of good wins (except against Spurs of course).

Well done Arsenal.

Can't wait until the Spurs match!

Really hope we make ourselves proud. We will definately have to play our best if we want to win.

Should be a great game with both teams attacking...hopefully.

Spurs are missing Huddlestone he is rock solid in the middle. We just need to keep Vaartgoal quiet . Fingers crossed ...No mid-week injuries:))

I hope Wenger has the same opinion, then Spurs will surely win...you tend to forget the small matters of Modric and Bale. Even Bentley can be decisive...as you might remember.
Shame Spurs' defense is a shambles...

Bale making head waves sure, nothing that Theo hasn`t done. I would love if Spurs would try to play the passing game w/ Modric. I would love it! What we will see is Spurs sitting back and using their width on counter-attacks. Either way it should be a cracker of a match...My favorite NLD was the 5-4 a few yrs back.

I think Arsenal will win easily just as usually.
There will be an early Arsenal goal and Spurs will dominate until they will make their usual defensive mistake or lapse of concentration (like against Man Utd recently) and then Arsenal will score 3 or 4 goals more...

But now i'm talking as the archetypical fan that is always pessimistic...it's just that in this case it seems justified...

Either team can win it. We have looked suspect at home and not been playing well recently (although winning).

Spurs have the players to do us alot of damage.

I think it will be close and have a few goals - maybe 3? 2-1 either way.

But Spurs are shockingly bad against the top teams (i don't know which team is the home team, if it's at White Heart Lane, then maybe Spurs could win).
On top of that the match seems to matter more to Spurs and their fans and that is not a good sign...

Well may the best team win.

Just read on the Guardian website that free agent Robert Pires would sign for Aston Villa.
In this thread, that is not completely off-topic.

Great player for us. I wish him all the best wherever he goes. He will get a great reception when he comes back home :DD

The Spurs game is at the Emirates by the way :)).
