Hodgson doesn`t protect his players or hide the facts , he throws them under the bus then reverses back to run them over again. Putting blame elsewhere allows the players to perform better

I was right by the goal when West Brom scored all the goals. Our defending at times was diabolical. Really really bad, it just seemed like they had no idea and freaked out when the ball was crossed low into the box.

Have to say though that the ref was bad and the linesman. The ref failed to play on twice when we got fouled. One was right near the goal and one of our players was clean on to score and he blew the whistle. Really bad. Also a couple of times the whole ball went over the line for a throw and the linesman totally failed to call it. Just leaves me wondering, what the hell are they doing?

Arshavin has to try harder in games, always seems to stroll around. He needs to try harder when he doesn't have the ball.

Almunia fucked up again after a great save from the penalty. We need a keeper to let our fragile defence not be paranoid.

Nasri seemed like the only player to give a shit that we were losing and tried to do something about it.

Super shit for me today as I was sitting right by the WBA supporters. Soooooooooo Depressing!
 
How shitty! 2 weeks in a row, depressing results...I am glad I overslept and didn't wake up for the game.

BTW, How big of a cunt is Redknapp! Seems like every day a new article comes out on him about how he hates Wenger.

It would have been good news if we had a good replacement....but we don't.

Fabianski will be in goal and I have less confidence in him than I do Almunia.

If we play anything like we did against WBA we will get destroyed by Chelsea on Sunday aswell.

Alot of our players are just fucked up in the head. Season after season we get results like the WBA one, where our team just thinks they have to turn up to win. Then they say they have learned from it and they haven't because then it happens again.

For a team that hasn't won anything for a while, I really don't understand where this attitude comes from?!

It is getting ridiculous and I think it is a much bigger problem than our goalkeeping situation at the moment.

I know I have said it before, but after witnessing it at close hand on saturday, Arshavin needs a kick up the arse (he is not the only one of course). I saw at least twice, the opposition player got the ball and he was the nearest to them and it took him a few seconds to close the player down, by which point it was too late. Like he was waiting for somebody else to do it, then realised they wasn't and then went for it half heartedly.

He is a great player when he wants to be and can change a game at any moment. But if he spends 90% of the game wandering around not doing much I think this has a negative effect on the way we play. It shows a lack of commitment IMO.

It's not just Arshavin, but I was giving an example and he at times can be one of our most influential players.

Just so frustrating. Some of our players need to be told day after day that they need to give 100%, because at the moment alot of them aren't.

WBA seem to have a very solid team this year. I honestly don't seem them as relegation fodder like they were in previous seasons.
Besides that, every team looses some points against lesser teams. The fact that both Man Utd ans Chelsea lost points makes this loss even less important.
In the past Arsenal were the team that lost most points against similar clubs among the top 4. So i understand your concern, but right at the moment this is premature. You should be concerned about the continuing stream of injuries. Is this a coïncidence or is there more to it?

I don't think all is over, we are still 3rd and there is a long way to go. But we lost points at home and were 3-0 down. It was a very very poor performance and at the beginning of the season you expect your team to be really up for it and running around and giving all they can....but they weren't.

It is just really dissapointing, as I really think we have the squad now to do something this season. But if the players don't give everything they have got, we will not win anything.

Injuries I think we will never get away from. It is the great mystery at Arsenal over the last 5years or so.

I would love to hear it? because Arsene doesn't seem to know why? as he said they had looked into it extensively and couldn't find a reason.

So who knows why we have so many injuries? you can have ideas, but unless some proof comes out as to why we have so many injuries and we can sort that out, then it is a mystery.

Almunia is miles ahead of Fabianski in every way. Would pick him any day over Fabianski.

I really think Almunia gets more criticism than he deserves. I don't think he is world class or the keeper that Arsenal really are looking for, but I think he is a good keeper overall. Yes, he is prone to slip-ups more than what is acceptable. However, I think a lot of that has to do with his current form and his confidence. He is under a lot of pressure and I am not sure that is helping him any.

At the end of the day, Almunia is our first-choice keeper, and he will stay so unless we pick up Schwarzer or someone else in January (highly unlikely). The best thing to do is support him, rather than criticize him so heavily and moan about not having a better keeper.

I agree, they are making more mistakes now because there is so much pressure on them. I think the both of them have about 50% more pressure on them every match as it has been highlighted so much. It means they can't relax and concentrate.

When I was at the game near the end there were ironic cheers when Almunia catched the ball and also a couple of guys a few rows back started hurling abuse at Almunia. Totally not necesary and doesn't help the situation at all.

The booing of Eboue helped him, because he was being a dick. He was diving all over the place, not trying. So the boos made him realise his mistakes and he got much better.

But doing the same to the goalkeepers is just wrong. They know they made mistakes, but I do believe they are trying their hardest whenever they come onto the pitch, it's just their confidence is shot to pieces and they have so much pressure on them. Plus they are not the greatest keepers either.

The fact is they will be our keepers until Jan at least. So Putting them down before that and destroying whatever confidence they have left now, is just bad for the team overall.

Keepers need a litle bit of confidence.
It's sometimes weird how keepers ar judged. Two recent examples: Joe Hart can do nothing wrong and Robert Greene can do nothing right. Hart recently made a mistake but i have the feeling that it wasn't considered a big deal. Greene (unfortunately) played a very good match against Spurs, but he did not get the praise he deserved.
In football much is related to the image the media have about players/teams. It looks as if Almunia can't do anything good... I'm not so sure if there are that many better goalkeepers in the Premiership and does that are definitely better are old (Van Der Sar, Jaskelainen, Villa's keeper - i forgot his name) or are playing for other top teams (Cech - although now and then he also makes mistakes and Reyna (imo currently the best)). Maybe Arsenal could buy Given, but i'm not convinced by him. He has brilliant reflexes but all the teams where he played conceded an awfull lot of goals. Maybe Hart could become a world class goalkeeper but imo the jury is still concerning his capacities...

Being a keeper is the hardest job on the field I think.

you are right it is so weird how many goalkeepers are judged. Wenger obviously was looking to find a new keeper before this season, but couldn't get anybody he would like to have. We obviously have the money, but just buying any old keeper wouldn't have done.

I don't know if it is true, but I had a talk with someone the other day and they were saying that Schwarzer wasn't playing particularly well this season aswell? (I haven't seen many games this season so can't make a judgement).

It is very hard to find a good goalkeeper...let alone a great one.

I do think Almunia is a good goalkeeper, but the pressure is getting to him and the mistakes are getting a bit tiresome and costly. But he is the best we have and we need to suppoort him, until we get somebody better in.

I coach a bunch of 11 year old boys. Good lads. Talented. When I am tired and am happy with them, I give them a session that I know that they will like. Some small-sided-games with limited touches. Make it a lighthearted competition. They love that. All can enjoy. Smiles everywhere, including from me. Easy streets.

The sessions that turn talent into results, individual defending, keeping a solid line, communication when without the ball, defending set pieces and applying pressure, they hate. Boring, hard work, no showboating. But we do them anyway. One has to, and they know that. But they hate it and its hard work for me.

A few years ago Wenger said he wanted to grow a squad, a happy, talented squad of friends. Friends that love to come to work every day and enjoy it. We know they play a lot of 4 a-side, one and two touch. It's well documented. Anyone think they do defending, shadow-play, set pieces ? Of course not. Do they ever alter formation or tactics to adapt to the opposition? Of course not. Boring. Hard work, all of that.

They are a light-weight, under-prepared, under coached bunch of chancers. They have inflated senses of their talent and most can't appreciate the work required to win. And its because they never do it in training and few have the natural desire to overcome the inadequacies in Wenger's approach. Fabregas is the exception that proves the rule.

Bottom line. Forget the lack of spending and stubborn refusal to cast aside players that underperform. We all know about that. The biggest issue at arsenal is wengers inability/desire to actually coach.

Arsenal is a defenders graveyard. All defenders that have come to or through arsenal under Wenger have damaged their careers (Cole apart). Kolo, Sol, Senderos, Gallas all left with their reputations damaged and Clichy and Sagna are going that way fast. They live in a coaching vacuum for defenders. They live in a club where defence is optional.

Look at Song. We waited 4 years for that lump to develop into a decent defensive midfielder, and now he's a star, he doesn't wanna do that. He wants to attack. He leaves Wilshere to hold the shape of the team. Jack, a player 6 inches smaller, 2 stone lighter and 5 years younger, is required to hold the team together. And Wenger allows this. Think Fergie or mourinho would ? Me neither.

Was Kolo Toures reputation tarnished? how much did City buy him for? was Sols? he ended up winning a few trophies. Is Sagnas and Glichys? in my mind Wenger made them into international footballers. So the point he is making there is stupid. Gallas reputation was ruined by himself acting like a twat, which he also did at Chelsea.

Song has to be told to ease off running forward, but how do you know Wenger hasn't sat him down after the West Brom game and told him to do that?

It's just another knee jerk reaction to the shit that happened on Saturday.

Everybody thinks they have the answer to our problems, but most people don't even know what is going on behind the scenes etc.

My opinion is that some of our players do have an ego problem and no matter how many times they seem to be brought down to earth, they still don't seem to learn from it. This is a huge problem for us. This combined with our injury curse and our goalkeeping problem all combine to fuck up our season.

Saturdays performance was unnacceptable, but we are still 3rd in the league and are not that far off the top (we will see after sunday how far). I am just as angry as the next person was about the performance on Saturday, I had to walk right past the singing and gloating West brom fans in my face trying to get out of the stadium...it was super shit. But we have to put it all into perspective and hope that some of our players pull their fingers out.

In my mind we have a great squad this season, but they need to be more disciplined and put more effort into the games if they are going to get anywhere.
