Arsenal Thread

We cant think positive about this loss...Its been 5 years that everytime we lost against a big team, we should take this as positive...its time for result and we are not getting any right now against big opposition...theres a good question mark going on right now...true alot of our best players are injured but its been 5 years that this problem occurs...we need depth in the squad surely...

I think we have enough depth now. But we have a totally new central defensive unit (arguably our best defender was out to) now and our two best players were not playing and our most in form player was also out for this game.

It is at Stamford bridge and not many teams get anything there. The reports said we played very well, so that is a plus over last season when we played shit both times.

I will judge on our home games against Chelsea and Man united. if they win easily again at the Emirates then i will say we still have a big problem (depending on who is available for us).

I agree though it is frustrating, but I do think we are moving forward. But as with so many seasons recently the injuries dont let us see our team play with its best starting line up for more than a couple of games in a row.

Anyway, I would rather look at the positives than the negatives, I will leave it to everybody else to piss and moan :))

Is it me or Squillaci has been really poor today? For example on Malouda's lob that went out by little.. Poor defending to say the best :(

Apart from that, Arsenal didn't really deserve to lose: Koscielny send over the bar a header that was easier to score than to miss, Cech did a superbe save on Arshavin and all in all Arsenal played a very good match in my opinion.
In addition, Drogba's goal would go in once in, say, 100 times :(

If Arsenal had more quality in terms of a striker they should at least have earned a point out of that game.

At Girondins I always rated Cavenaghi over Chamakh though he offers slightly less aerially and physically he is far more intelligent and a real predator.

Ibra might have been a better fit but Wenger likes to keep the purse strings and rightly so tight.

I still think that if only Vermaelen had been there in Squillaci's place, the result would've been different. But the same applies to Lampard too, and to Fabregas, so it's not possible to judge a match basing on bans/injuries..
Not that I don't like Squillaci, but he certainly hasn't been solid yesterday

By the way, I don't rate Chamakh that high, either. I'd just play Vela instead of him, but it's personal taste. Clichy on the other hand impressed me a lot: he's really fast!!

Since we went the season invincible in 2004, we've played United and Chelsea 33 times, and we've won 6 times.

That says it all.

Wilshere has been called up to both u21 and full team

What is the point in that? should be made one or the other. He is only 18, he is going to get burned out if they keep doing that.

Lets hope he doesn't play for the full team and can have a rest.

Really happy Wenger is giving him lots of minutes, I'd like him to join up with the seniors but I'd rather not get him into the habit of not being able to pass. Much rather he and Rodwell both eased in at the same time to kick start the "new gen"

jack is being depend on way too much I prefer a slower process. If our goals is to reach 4th this season....it is the wrong attitude to take .

But how do you drop him when he has been our best player? especially with Fab out?

It's difficult, but I think he will be rested. Wenger seems to know how to deal with the youngsters. When fab is back he will get less games I think.

It is so great to see players like gibbs and wilshere coming through. Lets hope they continue in the right direction.

yeah , Bob, I see your point and agree it`s good for both youngsters to come up.Seeing Valencia doing so good in the early days w/o their best 2 players. Puts me off a bit I don`t want new players I want ours to gel already and have passion in every game. I see more frustration then passion of late....4th,3rd spot is FAILURE . 2nd is acceptable if you fail to reach 1st . I just hope we don`t use the injury card out again in a league w/ 25 so called "squad"

Unless Wenger is hoping to win by the court system. Present to the FA/UEFA committee how Arsenal doesn`t have a over-sized debt ratio, so they should win the trophy. We already heard the 4th place is like winning because he spends among the means :COAT: . I believe and trust in Wenger I really do, but accountability applies to everyone no?

I agree Wenger has to take alot of the blame if we don't do well this season.

But I still wouldn't want to see him leave if we had another not so good season :))

Me either I want Wenger to stay. I just want him to try a different approach maybe. And if it`s through finances , then so be it. These are surely abnormal times I admit. Carling cup is a must imo a boost! Look what it did for the potatoes

TBH mate we are not far behind chelsea/man united. last sundays game is an example of how close we was to winning against them. we had two clear cut chances in the first 5mins and had they gone in, arsenal would have had the edge.

we dominated pocession throughout the match making them look like the away side and it took a flukey goal from drogba and an unstoppable free kick from alex who will NEVER score another goal like that again, to defeat us.

what wins titles is not againts chelsea and united. its against west brom, newcastle etc.

If we'd drawn or won either of the games against Chelsea last season we'd have won the league.

Jumbo that makes NO sense! If you would of won any of your draws you would of won :FAIL: its numbers that add up points!!!!! lets say you won at cottage you would of won regardless of your losses to Chels. I get ur pt. I rather see a lost to Chels than to Fulham :P

No!!! ;))

We lost both matches league against Chelsea last season. According to Jonney, this doesn't matter as long as you beat the little teams.

If in one of the Chelsea matches we had got a draw, then Chelsea would have 2 less points than they actually finished with and we'd have 1 extra and we'd be champions by 2 points! Simples. :)

Diddnt a few of the little teams beat you though? those are what counts. their are more smaller teams then there are teams of the same quality as chelsea united and arsenal.

Diddnt ManU last won the league with having the worst record against the other top 3 teams i.e. arsenal, chelsea and liverpool?

That was the time when arsenal did the double on you i think. or was that liverpool? one of the two but my point is, Your team is solid proof that titles are won against west brom etc etc not against the top teams.

Sorry Jonney that's total bollocks. Every win is worth 3 points, every draw is worth 1 point, it doesn't matter who it's against. But the fact is in that one singular match against Chelsea, which you are saying doesn't matter, a different result would have meant a different team wins the title, so your theory is flawed. All matches count the same, you just have more control over the ones against your rivals (you can stop them from winning, which you cant if you're both playing different teams).

Chelsea beat Arsenal, United and Liverpool home and away last season and won the league. So by your definitions that's solid proof that titles are won against the rest of the 'big four'.

Enjoy, those freekicks that Alex will never ever ever score again. ;)

read on the paper cecs wanted to go last summer and how real madrid were also chasing him

In last summer, do you mean the one just gone? I thought it was obvious he wanted to go? It's not exactly something new to report?

The real madrid thing is weird as he wants to go to Barcelona.

jonney, you warped the space-time continuum...we're back on the cesc - barca discussion...

last summer, real madrid was after him too.

If it's in the newspaper it's probably a load of bollocks.

probably, but worth a mention though

fucksakes dont anyone here read newspapers?

maintain that I was right because (to play for Barcelona) is a dream I’ve had since childhood,’ he told radio station Cadena Cope.

You're not going anywhere: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger battled to keep hold of Cesc Fabregas
The 23-year-old went to the World Cup with Spain thinking he had the assurances he needed from Wenger, but the Arsenal boss refused to roll over and accept Barca’s relatively derisory offers.
The first of two formal offers came in at just £29million and Fabregas is understood to have been privately disappointed that the Spanish champions did not do more to clinch the signing once he had made the first public steps.
However, the diplomatic north London idol says he has no ill feeling to either club.
‘The truth is that the coach (Wenger) is like a second father to me,’ said Fabregas. ‘I told him what I thought. There were difficult moments.
‘In the end, when I spoke to Wenger he told me no - he was very emphatic, that the transfer was impossible.
‘I’m satisfied for all parties. It wasn’t to be and that’s that, though in my head I keep thinking it could have been a good opportunity.
‘But here (at Arsenal) I have everything. I’m still happy. I’m very comfortable here, I like the club, lead the team, play football. We just need to start winning titles because we have a wealth of quality. A winning mentality is missing.’
