Arsenal Thread

In all this thread only one guy get the name properly written.
It's Gomes - portuguese name
Not Gomez - typically spanish (This sentence reminds me something, isn't it Sir Alex? :LOL:)

well being hispanic might differ at times ,but cortes y cortez are both spanish eh? My wife`s surname is Cortes and if she is somewhat Portugese I`ve been duked, on those grounds I need a lawyer .

I think the only guy who got that right was me, but I'm Brazilian :P

Gomes was lucky. I remember him from the old days, has always been a kinda dodgy goalkeeper. A better Almunia at best.

Tbh I'd much rather see Arsenal win the league then Chelsea...then again I'd imagine most neutrals would too.

Feel like next season we'll be back to <5 losses for the top couple of teams. This whole 6/7 losses in a season just doesn't seem likely moving forward. This really was the year of prem teams weakening, for several reasons, but it does seem to be the best shot Arsenal will get for a while.

Chelsea will definitely strengthen (whatever happened to their transfer ban anyway? disappeared like any FA charge they face?) and United have to. I feel like this is Arsenal's level, c. 6 losses and a few draws, and if the last few years have been anything to go by, the very top team won't drop that many points.

I think depending on things the top teams will be stronger but I don't think this was Arsenals only chance like it was for Liverpool, their team had peaked while this Arsenal team will be better next year.

Van Persie, Arshavin and Fabregas are World Class, The likes of Nasri and Walcott will be better players. Aslong as they strengthen the team without removing key players they'll compete for the title.

I think your wife's name is Cortés like the flamenco dancer Joaquin Cortés (don't you know him?). The accent on the e gives the word the same pronunciation as ez. Same case ó = oz. It's very commun in portuguese and spanish languages.

Examples:
Cortés = Cortez
Sanchés = Sanchez
Queirós = Queiroz

About Gomes' name, well, there is no Gomez in portuguese grammar. There are many many similar names between portuguese and spanish languages but, as far as I know, doesn't exist any Gomez in portuguese neither Gomes in spanish.

that's coz spanish comes right from italian... actually half of the languages in the world come from italian, but spanish is really the closest one to its latin roots.

my first night in saragoza i was approached by a spanish girl... she talked to me in spanish and i replied in italian... and we both perfectly understood each others :D
2 weeks after i could speak a pretty good spanish... and after 3 months in spain my spanish got more fluent than my english will ever be. that's how close italian and spanish languages are.

u could easily speak spanish to an italian who has never heard a word of it and he will understand what u're saying. and also for spanish speakers is pretty easy to understand italian (not as easy as it is for an italian speaker to understand spanish though).
sorry for the off topic :))

I think the girl probably had something to do with that! :DD Didn't she? :P

Verms out for the season :(

Unfortunately I think it's Arsenal out for the season.

Verminator, Gallas, Song, Arshavin, Fab, Ramsey... And RVP just coming back now. This is just ridiculous. And I'll say it again: Vermaelen, Gallas and Arshavin all have the same calf problem. Something wrong is being done in physical preparation.

Actually I spent 3 summers in the Toscana 15 years ago. The first time I went there I had never spoken italian in my life. 3 weeks later I could speak with anyone fluently. In fact, I studied italian for 2 years and reached a very high level, something I'll never achieve in English, so I understand what you say Zio, our languages are so so close...

Well, in fact my mother tongue is Catalan (which is some degrees closer to french than italian) but I speak spanish perfectly. Bilingual people (and catalan has a broader range of sounds than spanish and italian combined, as french) also learn other languages faster.

But I must say speaking italian is delicious, is one of the sweetest languages you can speak (along with portuguese), thanks to 99% of the words ending in a vowel. Besides, I start to speak italian and I can't stop making great gestures with my arms and hands. It's so fun.

To stay on-topic: Go Arsenal Go! You still can win!

Talk about squandering a match they were in total control of. They could have "killed" the match, instead they stop playing and nothing happens on the bench.
