Arsenal Thread

Lol your on par with Atleti, amazing talented and quick Attack, awful defence.

Mind if i ask, will Gallas is/will be your Main CB?

From what I've seen in pre-season matches its interchangeable between Gallas, Vermaelen and Djourou. Being at the Emirates cup yesterday we seem no better at defending with Gallas and Djourou, within the first 5 minutes Aguerro headed against the back post, not only was he one of the smallest players on the pitch but he was also totally unmarked!

I could be wrong, but i think Wilshere is no longer u-17 material, seems more like 1st team super sub. He will for sure be in the first team in a space time of 1/2 years, no doubt about it.
WHile i was stunned by the young 17 kid, i saw that you basically have only your CBs defending and Denilson is more interested in attacking rather then defending. With that said, i see no point in the "We won't buy any DMF" statement of Wenger, against a top side you will struggle yet again in a counter-attack. Hope im wrong in what i saw, because your an attacking team and even tough applying tons of pressure on the opposing defence is a good thing, that leaves far too many gaps in your midfield and since you don't have a "cleaner",hmmmm... We'll see...

You guys look fucking slick on the attack though no doubt about that. Wilshere and Ramsey play like they're in their 20s not teenagers. Fabregas was great too.

Wilshere was impressive, can really become a first team player and who knows maybe a starter ahah =p.

now lets get that dmf quick cause were playing a level of football thats I have rarely seen, but what were missing is sometime we lack getting to the point, and the more the clock goes the fewers our chance of scoring gets, were playin like barca except barca get to the point very quickly.

They wont play like that in the premiership. why? because many teams will just take them out instead of letting us play.

Yes we can play good stuff when teams "allow us" to, but when the going gets tough, we fuck up big time. im hoping Song can step up and boss the midfield. i dont expect Diaby to do it as his fucking useless and wants to play as a striker more than a DM. who does he think he is? the next Adebayor?:CONFUSE:

Anyways my main concern is not attacking but defending. We are about to lose Senderos and possibly Eboue. Thats our major concern. it doesnt matter how fancy wishere etc etc is, if we cant defend then whats the point? we will see lots of 4:4 games or similar high scoring games if we dont buy a few defenders.

I was at the emirates yesterday, Arsenal are seriously defensively week. I think Gallas concentration levels arent what they used to be, and Djourou is pants!

You guys need a good british defender like Upson, Ive always felt a good british core can be significant in winning things for the epl clubs. I know arsenals invincibles were mainly foreign -- But you guys did have cole & campbell who were immense also Keown & Parlor to come on too.

lol i did say we only have gallas as a good CB. the rest are either OK or shit. Im telling you lads we are going to fuck up once again this season if we dont buy players. At this rate i'l take Viera out of all people to join us. better then nothing/ certainly better then Denilson

Well Diaby isn't a defensive midfielder, everyone assumes he is because of his build, so that's why he's not that good there.

And I can't see Wenger buying Upson, he already sold him in the first place and whilst he's good, he wouldn't be worth the money West Ham would want for him.

And read this jonney it might make you see another reason for the sales.

Yes i know the reasons for teh sales. what i dont understand is why he hasnt replaced those players yet. Wenger has got it wrong 5 seasons, i be surprised if he gets it right next season and by me meaning of him getting it right, i mean arsenal actually pushing for the premiership title till May 2010

Well last season you were ravaged by injuries and the season before you were totally written off beforehand but when it came down to it you looked like you'd win the league until us and Chelsea evenutally proved too strong, so I dont think its fair to say Wenger got it wrong 5 seasons in a row.

Chelsea and then United have been VERY strong over that time so there's no shame in not matching it, that's why I think you're overreacting.

to be honest if it wasnt for injuries and bad refereeing arsenal would and should have won the league 2 seasons ago. it just sucks because they sold two of the key players of that season that summer in hleb and flamini.

Wilshere was brilliant today. He has what it takes to be considered a genius, at the age of 17!
He's complete - agile, great dribble, great vision and one touch passes... AND can certainly score! That 2nd goal of his reminded me of Romario against Holland in 1994, when he tapped in a cross from Bebeto with a single touch.

He has some rare qualities that we've seen in the likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Fab and Arshhhh... Makes me think he could become one of the greatest Arsenal and English Team's legends.

lets hope he's not made of clay like most of the squad...

IMO Song is gonna be a strong DMF.
Denilson and Diaby are useless in defense and in offense they don't count.
Song needs an experienced, strong DMF to look up to.

No, last season we lost flamini and gilberto and never replaced them. Yes we had a lot of injuries but dont we always have lots of injuries? its not excuse, wenger should build a team that has reserves that can do a good job. look at united, they had tevez, rooney, berbatov and ronaldo up front!

Where was our strength in depth? i said at the very begining of last season that we will struggle because of lack of depth in our squad and boy was i right. same shit will happen this year. no1 can expect all our first team players to stay fit, some will get injured and replaced by kids who will get man handled off the ball easily.

Looking at our best 11, i honestly think united, chelsea and liverpool will still beta us easily due to how shallow our defence. it doesnt matter how great our attack is, if you dont have a good defense, you still will struggle to win. look at the 4:4 draw againts liverpool.

I will agree on one thing, two seasons ago it wasnt a failed season, we came close but diddnt quite make it. that team was 1 or 2 signing away from fighting for the title last may but what did wenger do? sold key players and never replaced them!

to be honest if it wasnt for injuries and bad refereeing arsenal would and should have won the league 2 seasons ago. it just sucks because they sold two of the key players of that season that summer in hleb and flamini.

Want to know why? because our team is very thin, when you look at our bench its a joke and now with toure gone, we now have to partner the likes of senderos/djorou etc with gallas!

O and apparently our defence was awful last weekend. no surprise if true. These are worrying times and my expectations for arsenal next season is very low. We cannot use referee's and injuries as an excuse, we should have a big enough team like united and chelsea to deal with injuries plus we dont have the same referee for every single game we play. Yes we may get some bad decisions againts us but we also get good decisions for us. it goes both ways and really is not an excuse for not challenging the best teams in the league let alone europe.

Im not asking us to win the title next season, all im asking is for arsenal to at least give me something to cheer about and look forward to come end of april/may instead of our season being over before christmas

Seriously, this ain't a bad team at all
Code:
            Almunia

Sagna Vermaelen Gallas Clichy

            Viera

      Fabregas Denilson

RvP Arshavin
           Eduardo

A Barcelona style 4-3-3... Viera & Song can take the DM spot, Nasri, Diaby, Merida or Ramsey could come in for Denilson, the front 3 are totally interchangable and you got Vela, Walcott, Wilshere, Simpson etc plus any signings (Chamakh?) as backup.

If Clichy and Sagna regain the form they lost last season then you got two of the best fullbacks in the league right there and Gallas and Vermaelen are both good too. If Wenger can sign a couple of decent players to play backup then you've got a great squad there and if Arsene can get them playing like we all know he can then you should be fine.

AW said Vieira signing is a posibility!
Yes our first 11 is strong but we really need a CB,DMF and backup for CF!
Chamack would be great,Hangeland for CB,and maybe a realy great DMF(Senna before Vieira!)but Senna is not linked with Arsenal, and he will stay in Villaral for sure until the END of his carriere.

lol i had an odd dream yesterday where my friend told me eduardo joined the mancs

must have been yankin my chain

this Arsenal squad seem to be everyone`s science project.. many predictions? who to pick? where will you put them? Its FM10. I would love to predict a few scenarios but I might embarrass myself in the process. I did predict Wenger would buy a striker before a CB or DM and so did everyone else Oh well :FISH:

Went to the Emirates Cup on the weekend and the Members day today (basically an open access training game with a bunch of fun competitions and such, and a chance to watch from very close to the pitch and see the players train up close.)

After reading that Amy Lawrence article about the sales of Toure and Adebayor helping to break up cliques in the dressing room I have to say that over the above events I've really noticed a quiet determination and friendly team spirt emerge since the end of last season. It was quite reassuring to see today not only all the players chatting and laughing and training together but also the interaction between the manager, players and fan back to a supportive and "we may be written off but lets show them otherwise" relationship (after the booing fans and lacklustre team performances of last season)

Can't quite put my finger on it but I have a strong feeling for this season, especially with one or two more signings. Both the fans and the players seem to have grown up and are determined to start the season strong this year.
