Arsenal Thread

Muscle training is more in the summer and when returning to health which makes sense. I think Barça matters little knowing they don't play in a cold night in Stokes as the joke is replayed over again :P A player will always want to play regardless the knock they're nursing , Henry comfirm that much too. I read Klopp saying Sturridge needs to play through the pain I assume he meant discomfort . I took that as removing any precaution ( mind set) .It seems when Aquero gets hurt its unsustainable . I agree Wenger might not be solely at fault, but he's at fault for not having positions covered.

Arsenal playing in Europa will be a disaster unless Mutd joins them . I do think it's great Liverpool n MCity will most likely get to the domestic cup final.

Never should have let it get to this stage, but it was always very unlikely to go out first in the group with Bayern there. All in all a good win for the club.

I could totally imagine the team collapsing on itself again and botching up the win. Having to win by 2 goals away from home can be daunting task, especially with Arsenal's history of immaculate botch-ups.

Never was worried , We have too much Class on the pitch tonight , and Campbell was very exceptional . No Thursday night circus for us :BOP:

Giroud injury roll on the pitch , then gets up and scores lol This is great for his confidence .

Isn't Manchester United an English team? :P

Well, about yesterday: Wenger and his men have more balls than they get credit for. To beat Olympiacos 3-0 at their place ain't exactly an easy feat. And they did it without Alexis.

I didn't watch the match, just highlights. But that Joel Campbell play setting up Giroud for the 2nd was mouth watering. Ramsey seems to have done really well and Özil made his usual fantastic passes. But the big Frenchman upfront grabbed the headlines. What a great hat trick by Giroud and what great timing for it to have come.

Now we're back from the dead and into the last 16. I don't care who we draw, honestly. After years and years of exiting against the likes of Barcelona, Bayern and Milan right in the 1st playoff, last year destiny seemed to have cut us some slack when we drew Monaco... and we know the rest.

Now we're in the profit regardless of who we get. We won't be playing Thursday nights :BOP:

Arsenal are always great when it comes to "comebacks", but the problem is, they only have that spirit after leaving them selves hanging.

@Rent watch the match , Arsene changed tactics switching Theo /Joel and went more width. Joel played fullback - Winger- second striker . Ramsey finally getting to play in the middle getting involved in everything ( Cazorla can recover in peace , go back to España for a while) he deserves it ,and seeing Flamini staying back was great to see. Giroud cover some space lol he was tracking back taking balls off wingers . When he stood up to take the penalty , he took it w/ conviction .

:BYE:

As brilliant as Barca are. Im more confident we have no Djourou & Szczesny and Cesc did that stupid back heel on the edge of his own box that cost us a goal last time. February is a long time from now . no injuries to Ozil,Sanchez n Cech!

We made it through the ordeal that was the group stages only to knock Barcelona out of the competition. You read it here first.

Too early to say, if both have no injuries and are fit, I think Barcelona is favorite, but Arsenal is one of the toughest opponents we could face in the competition and your style can hurt us badly. But... if the genius is fit and Neymar is back, then it will be very dififcult for Arsenal defenders.

Note: the way to damage Barcelona is not trying to have long possessions, you have to attack us quickly and with wingers. I think Ozil in the middle and Alexis and Walcott in the wings, with Giroud punishing Mascherano on the air would be the best line-up for you.

That's tongue in cheek of course, but if Arsenal has everybody fit we stand a little chance. Having Cech in goal makes a lot of difference and this Arsenal side is stronger than the ones in seasons past.

Is it just me or the Champions League is becoming one big footballing deja vù? Or maybe it's just Arsenal.

Almost every season we have to face Borussia, Bayern or Barcelona, and sometimes two of these in the same edition.
It seems too many restrictions on draws make it so.

When the format of the CL was decided, the G14 clubs had a major influence in it.
Arsenal has to blame itself for the current format.

How does it come that they play against these mega clubs.

There are different reasons: because (not this year, i know) Arsenal usually end up 4th in the EPL.

Also because Arsenal can't win their group stage. If they had won their group they could have played the likes of Gent, Kiev, Benfica...

When the format was decided, Arsenal battled with Man Utd to be the best English club. Since then Chelsea and Manchester City have often surpassed Arsenal.

It has become even worse for Liverpool.

I remember some 3 or 4 years ago Arsenal topping their group and drawing AC Milan when they were pretty strong, still with Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.
So there's definitely some bad luck weighing in too...

Talking about luck, we have topped our group in the last years, and here are the opponents we had to face: Arsenal (twice), Manchester City (twice), PSG...

But that's the competition. I just wanted to face "new" teams as we have crossed our paths with the likes of Arsenal, City, Milan and PSG too much lately and variation is nice: I wouuld like to see Benfica, Wolfsburg or Zenit come to the stadium, but in terms of quality, I prefer to watch Arsenal live again, of course!

If you want to win the CL, sooner or later you got to win against the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, PSG or City.

IMO those are the only five teams to have a realistic chance of winning the CL, not only this season, but for years to come...that is a pity...

If even teams like Arsenal, Juve and Man United are underdogs, something is wrong...

hello from an Olympiakos fan from Greece. i watched our game in karaiskakis from the stadium..i have to say one thing..Congratulations...not only becouse you qualified by beating us clearly and easy, but mainly becouse although your team obviously possesses much more quality than ours, you played very very carefully and dischplined.Having to win by atleast 2 goals disnt take your mind away, a lot of defenders were always in defence to prevent our attackers from threatening in anyway. Venger understood that Olympiakos could hit him only in free spaces, and he made sure that no space will be given. OUR defenders inability to mark Ziroud, and our stupidity to send the full backs up front, made the rest easy for a team with Arsenal class.
so, congratulations, and good luck against Barcelona. you will definitely need it.

Its an incredible amount of matches is such a short time. How Arsenal is able to have (3) home matches is very fortunate.

Well ,well ...well... absolute lovely! stuff from The Arsenal tonight pure class for 75 minutes. Ozil is really consistence w/ assisting :)

Theo`s gol was class!
Giroud`s gol was the norm.
Yaya`s gol sublime.

I'm starting to think we can actually challenge now! To win w/o Sanchez is a massive statement. I think Cech was the missing piece to challenge. We just need a solid proper destroyer in the middle to win. This was a massive 3pts and hopefully put on a good Christmas run .

think u got the times wrong lol

@jonney. Just minus five hours (-5hrs) :)
@pipa23 ManCity best CB was £6m Kompany too. That Mangala is worse in real life , compare to Fifa16.

Deserved win for you.
We had plenty of the ball but were too slow with it and had no outlet on the left, with MP yet again putting Delph on the left. Arse on the other hand were quick when they got the chance to attack.

Needed to go in 1-0 at HT and we could have gone on to win but that man Mangala had other ideas ...again.

Thought Giroud was excellent. Held the ball up really well.

Not worried about losing at the Emirates, you can play well and still lose there, but we need to start playing well again soon. 5 defeats before Christmas is terrible. Ironically, the spectre of Pep is the only thing keeping MP in a job and the fans off his back.

It was a great win beating man foul city 2-1

Although it should have been 3 or 4
Ramsey needs to find his goal scoring touch again

Giroud looks like a different player at the moment
last few games been holding up the ball much better
and his touches passes has been very good also

I think main thing is to stay in the mix during this busy Christmas
then hopefully get some backup in the transfer window

This is Arsenal's best chance for the premier league in recent years
but looking at the bench vs Man City concerned me as there was practically nothing going forward.

Which I think affected the last bit of the man city game when we needed a bit of a freshen up

Really concerned for attacking injuries or when we need something different

Bit off topic but I'm surprised that michu has joined a team in the spanish 4th tier league wow, I know he maybe lost his way a bit but could have been worth a gamble on a short term contract

things back on track now after a slight slip up
main thing is the team to focus and to get through this christmas period while still being in the mix for challenging the title
leicester have some difficult games up ahead, although if they stay top after this period it would be really difficult to catch up i think since today theyre playing liverpool away then man city at home if im not mistaken

facing barcelona in champions league yet again, honestly i dont really think about it too badly
reality is to win the champions league you need to beat the best and there isnt better than barcelona
i would liked that arsenal face barcelona first in spain but sadly no
i think its important to focus on the epl and i think for champions league it should be either your in or your out kind of mindset
simply its better to out early than to be quarter or semi etc.. then go out
i know its maybe a bit negative thinking but europe can affect league form epspecially since we dont have a lot backup in the squad
we cant afford much more

thats why its important for arsene wenger to invest in janurary as were in a great position to do something special this year
a few players are needed

--------------------------------------------------------

About other games since I have not posted in a while
the aston villa one
Decent result, main thing is the three points
pity that Walcott goal was disallowed because he was 100% onside
funny 0 replay and 0 mention of it being onside
pause it as soon as giroud passes it, very clear walcott was onside
it was an amazing finish and i think it would have changed the game completely 2-0 is different to 3-0
but yet they kept talking about the penalty...
it was clear cut penalty, why did the ref take so long he shouldve blown it straight away

The amount of assists Ozil is getting is amazing

--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------

west brom game
it was a weird one because it was a game that we where the team were never really into despite being in the lead at one point
the tragic events in Paris I think clearly affected certain players like that weekend it did affect quite a few teams in my opinion
its important to pay respect and i think it was the right thing to do with the friendly england vs france
but i think it was wrong the teams mixing and linking arms
its just that when a player has to get focused i just think that affected the players

arteta is past his game, he did do a job and was a good player but now he way too slow and gives away too many free kicks
flamini is no coquelin but is a lot better than arteta and has proved himself in recent games
and he is possibily a very rich man now :O

i dont want to make an excuse for cazorla missing his penalty but how many west brom players were there in the box
before cazorla even took his penalty there were 4 players and 3 of them were third or more in the box

one time different game arteta had to take a penalty 3 times in a row when giroud only had a foot in the box....

just saying...

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------

norwich
another weirdish game again feel slightly hard done
i dont like when other teams seem to have a different rule book
that they can foul arsenal players all they want, take whoever out after they passed the ball etc...

then arsenal barely touches a player or even doesnt touch a player free kick free kick...

cazorla got booked for a dive... there was contact
but yet different game yaya toure dive no free kick but no yellow card plus for 10 mins of that game man city were only trying to dive

the push on sanchez into the cameras... nothing
this is not a good thing for football its saying like saying go on push your oppenment off the ball off the field
its dangerous, something that needs to be taken care of

debuchy was out for months when he was pushed into the adboards off the field
although turned out to be a blessing with bellerin stepping in

recent game with man city otamendi on giroud was reckless also didnt look too bad
but in replays it looked pretty bad and stupid completely not needed

Shane Long is a dirty player, has always been, since his West Brom days. That trip on Koscielny was a blatant foul missed by the ref. And the 3rd goal wasn't a corner to the Saints by no means.

But other than that what can we say? We didn't test their keeper. That was a dismal performance by Arsenal.
The 4-0 score line is freakishly flattering for Southampton, but we didn't deserve a point tonight. Walcott, Giroud and Ozil were completely neutralised and I can't remember a shot on target.

I fully expect a rested first team against Bournemouth in 48 hours because today it was as if they didn't enter the field at all.
