Arsenal Thread

This is not a real surprise. Any well drilled Premiership team can take us apart on a good day.

We've got a few youths in there: Martinez, Bellerin, Chambers at CB...

I don't blame any of them individually.
The manager is at fault for allowing us to be in this predicament.

If we ger battered by this Stoke side it would be one of the lowest points in Wenger's career.

PS: Gibbs didn't even bother to attempt a block on that cross for their 2nd. Not even a half hearted stretch of the leg. This is disgusting to see.

That's a good one, I'd laugh if the joke wasn't on us :COAT:

Seriously, our defense has been totally neglected this first half of the season.

Don't even get me started on the DMF position. This has been sufficiently discussed here and it really boils my piss that Wenger deemed Arteta and Flamini enough to protect our back line. Both are ageing and Arteta isn't even a natural DMF anyway.

The 6 defenders we went with into the season is what's costing us big time. Some of those guys were always going to get injuries at some point (and it could get worse should something happen to BFG).
But not only we're short in numbers, we have a problem of personnel. Gibbs is too poor to be pulling on an Arsenal shirt, his replacement Monreal isn't good enough either. We had to use Bellerin who was clearly out of his depth at this level, as we sorely miss Debuchy and it seems Kos had a setback on his recovery. Now that Chambers will be suspended, God knows who we will have as our defensive lineup next.

Finally, our goalkeepers. They simply aren't good enough for this club and to make matters worse we have to use our youngster 3rd keeper. To be frank, Wenger hasn't bothered finding a solution to our GK problem. Our GK situation has been more on the shit side since... 2008? It gets on my nerves to realise this - we struggle since Almunia! Almunia did ok for a while, but the truth is that our last great keeper was Lehmann. That was a long long time ago.

Now even if all of our keepers were fit, Szcz is too cock up bound and Ospina isn't good enough. Plus he seems to be another mysterious signing. Arsenal did us the favour of buying an injured keeper. Now I think we have the equivalent of Park Chu Young in the GK position.

Really, think about it guys. Stoke is better served with goal keepers than us.
Congratulations to all involved.

Really sometimes Rent I really don't get you.

Gibbs has been playing well for most of the season and is one of the best left backs in the league easily. Because he didn't try hard enough for one cross or didn't play well for a game, he isn't worth putting on an Arsenal shirt?!

And the goalkeepers, I haven't seen Sczc do too much wrong or any howlers to ou him in the same bracket as Fabianski or Almunia, in fact I think he was one of the best keepers in the league last season and put in some fine displays. I think here we have one of the best young goalkeepers in the game.

Also martinez has done really well since he came in, if he fucked up yesterday or was at fault for a goal doesn't suddenly make him shit. For a 3rd choice keeper he has done brilliantly in my book.

When Ospina came in everybody was talking about how he would take 1st spot from Sczc and would push him, unfortunately he is injured, but to say he was a bad buy is silly at the moment.

It's not that I'm saying everyone is shit. Of course I lose my temper with such performances, but I really do think Szczesny isn't 1st choice material. That he is prone to f*ck ups is one thing (I personally don't trust him). But what worries me most is that he is not being pushed at all to improve. Even if Ospina was fit I don't think he would threaten to take Szczesny's place. I really don't think Ospina is all that. Some say he had fine displays in the World Cup, but letting in a David Luiz side footed free kick from way out and deflecting inwards goals against Japan and Cote D'Evoire (Gervinho's goal) didn't look good to me. I do think there were better options out there in that position (and the fact that he's out injured is not coming to this equation).

As for Martinez, I think I made clear in the post previous to that one that I don't hold it against him. He had some real howlers at that barmy 7-5 match at Reading, but that was a while ago. He's just a youngster. As we know, when it rains it pours for Arsenal, so we're not so surprised that we have injuries to Szcz and Ospina. He's doing quite well for a 3rd choice keeper, I agree.

The same goes for Bellerin and even Chambers, who's just 19. I think he was a bit all over the place at CB (maybe got confused from so many matches at RB). Plus he was really hard done by with that sending off.

I'm not upset at these players, they are what we have now. I'm upset at Wenger for letting it come to this, I think we can all agree that it was madness to go into a season with these defensive options.

As for Gibbs, I might be getting a little personal here, but I don't see how he's that good of a fullback. Weak defensively, can't put in proper crosses IMO, and that he was found wanting in that specific build up to their goal really did it for me.

I really don't see him as in the same standard of left backs we have had in the past 15 years or so... Winterburn, Sylvinho, Cashley Cole... even Clichy for that matter (I wasn't a great fan of his either) and now I see Gibbs still as inferior to Clichy.

IMO Gibbs and Monreal are on a similar level of contention, and I can think of them as good options only when I remember how shit Andre Santos was.
This isn't the level Arsenal should be aiming for IMO.

Gibbs as one of the best fullbacks in the league? Sorry but I really don't see it that way. Maybe if some stats could prove he's doing better than I give him credit for?

Gibbs was force back too soon he`s on the mend. I think he`s Arsenal thru n thru! I think most English players get better as they age. He`s my 1st choice all day. I agree a player can only improve when their position is challenged.

Yesterday result was a real let down and we almost drew too. I wish Song was with us and that`s the better talking points. He must of really let Wenger down ,but then again Flamini left too 'on free'.:CONF:

Sczc i remember last season he was in some premierleague best team 11's, i remember the guardian I think had him as the Prem keeper of he year. He had a strong season last season.

I really cant remember him fucking up big time? If he has it has been few anf far between, just like any other goalkeeper out there.

He rushes out sometimes which is down to youth imo, but I am happy that he is our first choice keeper.

Also with Ospina, it is ridiculously hard to find a 2nd keeper and one that will push the current keeper.
I think Wenger did a wise decision here as he obvously wants Sczc to be number 1 but wants to give him that extra push.

I don't think the keeper situation is our problem (apart from two being injured)

Gibbs i have seen him play alot over the last couple of seasons, the problem is he is injured alot, but when he gets a run o games I rate him highly. Without being injured he is one of our most consistent players (at playing well :PP).

Anyway........

bebo, Song was never any good at defending, so I don't think we would have been any better off.

Song can piss off. Left to be benched at Barcelona, maybe knowing he would never get a chance. Who was he gonna bench? Xavi, Busquets, Mascherano, Iniesta?

I watched Newcastle vs Chelsea yesterday and looking at Colback's performance I thought to myself what difference it makes to have a real dogfighter DMF. He's not even that good, but he was brilliant yesterday. A team needs a guy like that to do the dirty work.

Flamini is a mere contingency IMO. He is good for what he is: signed on a free and puts in a shift, but we should be looking for someone much better. I'm not even considering Arteta as DMF because this is Wenger's invention, he's much more of a CMF in the Aaron Ramsey position.

But back to Flamini: that fact he came on a free means it was merely an opportunity buy and therefore Wenger may never had any real plans to buy real DMFs. We would probably be using Arteta and Ramsey or Wilshere as replacement. Or maybe use Cocquelin, who knows.
Anyway, this is not good enough for Arsenal. Teams in the top 4 have better personnel in these positions and we're neglecting that (I'm not even considering Chelsea and City here, I'm talking about teams who can leave us out of 3rd, 4th and even 5th place).

We have players like Podolski, Joel Campbell, Rosicky who barely get a look from Wenger these days. And even with injuries to Walcott, Özil, Gnabry, they are still not playing. It seems like a waste to me, while on defensive positions we are lacking players.
Wenger should have addressed that in the summer and I doubt he can remedy this in January.

Its not only the booing its tellling him to fuck off etc that is just sad and ridiculously disrespectful.

The only reason I would act like that is if somebody I know was deliberatley trying to harm the club, not skmebody that is teying to donthe best for the club but has made errors in judgement.

Really reactions like that Inwould maybe expect if we were bottom of the league.

Its disgusting it really is, these 'fans' are stupid, I don't want to be associated with them at all.

Just read some news about classless cunts who ambushed Wenger and hurled abuse at him.
I mean, even if they have something personal now against him, it doesn't help matters, we're not gonna change managers halfway through the season, are we?

Wenger has a grin he has no worries.... Like when a child is mad at the parent . It's water on a duck's back. Wenger knows 4th spot is his biggest complishment after this w / a couple of bebooos! The sympathy reaction demonised this viral attack .

Hell, 3rd spot might get extension on his contract.

Maybe not in that moronic tone but he deserves some serious stick. Arse fans pay astronomical amounts of money and all they see is Wenger pretending everything is fine.
He's won 1 trophy in 10 years and he's already thrown this season away with his defensive oversight. Take the DM position for example, either he is an idiot who can't see the obvious or he is refusing to address it because everyone has been telling him what he needs to do for the past decade (ie. stubbornness). Either wayy, the result is harmful to the club

He should of left w/ the FACup winner. He could move upstairs and run the business end of the club. Stubbornness is acute form of dementia .

I agree with Godot here. Can't really defend Wenger anymore.

He's either:

a) tactically astute and can't pinpoint the shortcomings of the squad and improve them.

b) in delusion and really thinks he can compete against the likes of Chelsea & City in the league and Munich, Real, etc in Europe with this mediocre roster even though the opposite has already been verified numerous times through experience.

c) or just doesn't care enough to fix the issues up whether out of staleness or some contrived situations with the management.

Rentboy was pretty spot-on for all issues. Everybody (and I mean everybody) mentioned that starting the season with this defense was a HUGE risk and totally unprofessional of a club at Arsenal's stature. We still don't have a DMF after years (Flamini was an anomaly signing). The injury situation hasn't been resolved for ages. We've been a one trick pony for the longest time and have no plan b on off days. These aren't just small issues that can be excused. They're ongoing problems for seasons with no sign that Wenger is even bothered by them.

Wenger is tactically stubborn, his teams can only play in one way, he refuses to address the defence and goal keeper situations, he makes the same mistakes time & time again.

EVERY EX ARSENAL LEGEND WANTS HIM GONE NOW. Even Ian Wright said on 606 said it's time for Whinger to go and that we'll never win the league again with the senile old idiot as manager. How come everyone else is wrong but Wenger is always right? In his little head, anyway.

We have been found out. Every team knows how to play against us. Dont let us play through the middle and we're screwed. Hustle us, don't let us play the tip tap footy and you'll always get at least a point. RUBBISH!

We pay the most for tickets in the Prem League, we watch us lose to the so-called big teams year upon year (we couldn't even beat Moyes United!).

We need a new philosophy, a new manager, a new assistant, new GK, 2 x CBs, a defensive midfielder and a striker who will actually score 20+ goals per season, not Dangly Welbeck who looks like Bambi On Ice and couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.

Anyone saying that Wenger needs more time is DELUDED. What is the long term strategy with him as manager now? 4th place again so we can get knocked out the CL by a good team, EVERY year. Never challenging for league titles. ONE FA CUP against an AWFUL HULL CITY in over a decade.

Our football is boring, tip tap-a-roo, we have no PLAN B, we CAN'T DEFEND, we stockpile number 10s and don't sign any grit.

WE ARE AWFUL. We're supposed to be Arsenal FC, not Newcastle who would be happy with a run in Europe once a year.

The Emirates BOWL OF BOOS is the worst thing to have happened to us. Horrible, souless, expensive stadium - not worth a tenner, let alone the 50 quid a game I pay.

WENGER OUT.

Get the senile old fool out of my club NOW.

Hmmmm weren't you on the site supporting Man United, Inter Milan and others before? You can't stay away! :PP

Debuchy is starting .... Interesting . We have Lots of players resting and the result doesn't matter, unless Campbell n Podi has something to prove.

That is a thing of pure, pure beauty. Up there with Scholes from the corner routine and Seedorf's ridiculously long range one for Milan. The sweetness of that strike. Could watch it all day.

Ramsey's goal WAS PURE CLASS last night.

Bad thing is, just buys Whinger more time.

We'll draw Barcelona next, get beat 4-1 on aggregate over 2 legs, then we'll scrape 4th in the summer after not winning anything.

Rinse, repeat - until Whinger goes.

Sick and tired of him now, he's bigger than the club now and that's not right.
