Arsenal Thread

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

The question is, can Arsenal and Man Utd afford that time anymore? And the answer is no.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Wenger finally got his man, he's been after Rosicky for a while now, he's a good player but as other people have said he's a similar player to Hleb although possibly a better passer of the ball.

I'm suprised though that Wenger has gone for this type of CMF/AMF cos arsenals problem isnt attacking its the lack of beef in CMF and defense, although im sure he's looking to sort that out.

Not sure why United supporters are moaning though he's not the type of player we need.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Wenger has never been one to get any known defenders, only one being Campbell but he rarely signs defenders so it comes as no suprise.

The united fans are just pissed cuz there seems to be no sign of Uniteds activity in the transfer market.

yeah he's not had to worry about defenders as much for the simple fact he inherited such good defenders but I can think of Campbell, cygan, toure, senderos (who will be WC in a few years) plus the various FB's he's signed.

United supporters should chill, Arsene had been after this guy for awhile it was probley all agreed back in jan.

You say that but SAF has been scouting for a midfielder since last summer and he has been seen watching certain players in matches. So how United cant get any deals in place up until now is a mystery. But of course Alex Ferguson can do no wrong in your eyes.

if SAF hasnt found a player he wants then what do you expect, for him to sign just anyone, whats the point of that, then people like you will be complaining of pointless signings....

And yes SAF can do no wrong in my eyes, aslong as he puts the club first what more could a supporter of any club want, I think you'll find that gooners feel the same bout Arsene.

Its called gratitude....

No what I expect and sure many other united fans expect is that its about time now the manager found his target and step up the pace to sign him, I think its pretty poor if he has no idea what player he wants.

I also dont believe SAF puts the club first, History has shown he puts himself first, then the club. Lets be honest, the man thinks he owns the club and thinks he is bigger than the club. Infact this is true,SAF is Man Utd, he is untouchable in many people's eyes and thats dangerous. When we are really going downhill as a club cuz of this man, who is going to be there to stand up to him and say to him its time to step down. I wont go into any more cuz Its long and this isnt the thread to be talking about United. Plus Ive listed many examples of the mistakes this man has made through poor man management or just lack of judgement.

well ya wrong on so many counts that im not gonna bore gooners with the ins and outs of picking your post apart.

Just out of curiosity though how many gooners feel arsene is "untouchable"

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Why dont you try picking my post apart in the United thread, we can take our argument there. I would love to see how you can disagree with what I just said.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

I wouldn't say he was untouchable, but he is very close to it. Our board know that they have the right man in charge. He is trusted and given the freedom to manage in the way he wants. Arsene knows that he couldn't have what he has now at say Real Madrid so its a good relationship. The club don't want him to leave, Arsene doesn't want to leave, perfect. Everyone is happy. Of course everything comes to an end eventually but I can see Wenger managing us for the medium to long term future. Barring any major disasters ;).

SAF has been around a long time at United and next season is a big season for him. If you don't win the Prem next season that will be 4 seasons without the title. Not good enough really for United and it might mean a change of direction at the club.

I don't like SAF that much but I do have an enormous amount of respect for him and all he has achieved, without him United could have continued to under-achieve throughout the 90's and be in the same situation as say Newcastle, great potential but just not getting it right.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

OFF TOPIC YOU TWO!

Oh hi btw, ain't been on here for a longgggg time but I'm an old regular :) I actually remember having afew slagging sessions with Vannizle myself back in the day... ah the memories :)

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Arsene over Thierry for me. He's replaced before, although Henry is outstanding and my favourite player of all time. Arsene has done so much more for the club and transformed us completely. We are now one of the biggest clubs in europe and the new stadium opitimises this.

I agree, as long as we have Arsene we are going to be just fine.

Although Thierry is sublime there will always be another great striker to take his place (hopefully). But great managers are hard to come by. Wenger is the reason Arsenal are where they are today - playing the Football we are playing today.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Hopefully we can sing a song like this for our new signing (in the tune of 'Hey Micky'):

Hey Rosicky you score lots of goals, you score lots of goals, you score lots of goals...Hey Rosicky (Clap, Clap Clap) Hey Rosicky!( clap clap clap)

Oh Rosicky what a pity teams don't understand, that with a guy like you Rosicky.....score a goal Rosicky! Goal Rosicky! score lots of goals Rosicky!! (Clap clap clap) Hey Rosicky!! - (clap clap clap).

Imagine butch North London lads singing that Peach of a song!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Im sure Sol campbell and Ashley Cole will be singing that song to him in the changing rooms.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Pires officially Gone! :(

Arsenal Football Club can today confirm the departure of midfielder Robert Pires to Spanish side Villarreal CF.

Pires, 32, made a total of 284 appearances for the Club in all competitions in his six seasons at Highbury, scoring 84 goals.

One of only five Arsenal players to have won the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award (2002), Robert has been instrumental to the Club’s success since his arrival in the summer of 2000; helping the team to two league titles in 2002 and 2004 as well as picking up two FA Cup winners’ medals in 2003 where he scored the winning goal and in 2005. Robert was also a key member of the record-breaking “Invincibles” side that went 49 games unbeaten.

Of the move Robert said: “After six wonderful years at Arsenal, full of fantastic moments, I have decided to accept a new challenge at Villarreal for the next two years of my career. I am very grateful to Arsène Wenger, the players and all the fans for their amazing support over the years”

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “Robert has had six tremendous years with us and made a huge contribution to the team’s success during his time here. He is not only a great footballer but a good man, so of course, we are sad to see him go. It’s difficult to pick out one or two highlights but he was superb in our double winning season during the 2001/02 campaign and contributed hugely to our unbeaten season with 19 goals. I would like to thank Robert for the dedication, determination and passion he has shown and wish him well in his career.”

Not bad from midfield. Cheers Bob, you are one of the best players I have seen pull on the red'n'white!!

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

I'd just like to say that this will be a massive loss for the club as Bobby has been one of our most influential players since joining the club, 84 goals in 284 appearances tells it all and for a wide midfielder that is a phenomenal record that not many can match.
There are so many pleasant memories I have of Bobby like his goal at Villa Park in our 2001/2002 double winning season where Freddie played him a long ball, he flicked it over George Boateng and left him for dead, then delicately chipped it over Peter Schmeichel. Or that beautiful curler at Anfield in our Unbeaten season. I'll never forget those goals. That double winning season, for alot of people was Bobby at his best and unfortunately that season was cut short by a serious cruciate ligament injury that saw him out of action for 6 months. Alot of people say that he was never the same player after that, but he still contributed tremendously to the team.
Who can forget his formidable goal scoring record against the Yids?! Try scoring for 5 years in a row in a North London Derby at Shite Hart Lane. I don't think anyone can match that.
He was also instrumental in our Unbeaten season, scoring 19 goals... once again, formidable!
And even last season he scored 11 goals, which isn't a bad return for a player shows supposedly way past his best.
As some of you know I had his name on the back of my home shirt this season and alot of people asked me why because he wasn't one of our 'top' players anymore and was past it, but I still believe Bobby is a top player even if he can't reach the heights he used too.

I would just like to wish Bobby all the best at Villarreal, he's been a true servant to the gunners and will go down as a legend in my eyes.

SUUUUUUUUPER SUPER ROB!
SUUUUUUUUPER SUPER ROB!
SUUUUUUUUPER SUPER ROB!
SUPER ROBERT PIRES!!!

I'll miss him. Agree with your sentiments CE. Through all the fantastic goals (Villa Away '02, Liverpool Away '04), the entire 01/02 season, the duck-footed run, I think the greatest memory I'll keep of him was that tackle on Vieira. His first ever, you know.

EDIT: Just saw gooner2005's post. Forget my pseudo-tribute, magnificent one above.

We'll definitely need goals from others in midfield now. Although I am sure Rosicky will be awesome, he is now not an addition but a replacement, so we still need to bring in two more palyers, I feel. AW knows that though.

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Pires......

I hated you when you came after Overmars, as i thought you ran like a duck, but you proved me so wrong in the 2001/2002 season. Hands down the best player during that whole winning season.. Thierry who???

Dateline: 17 Mar 2002

Aston Villa (0) 1 Arsenal (1) 2

IN RESISTING a rising claret-and-blue tide here at Villa Park yesterday, Arsenal were indebted to the sublime feet of Robert Pires. Pires's winning lob was breathtaking, and significant in keeping Arsenal on the flying heels of Manchester United.

.......

Arsenal unleashed an awesome counter-attack, Pires controlling Freddie Ljungberg's diagonal pass, guiding it expertly around the bemused George Boateng and then exquisitely over Schmeichel. "The great thing when you follow Arsenal is that you see great goals," Wenger purred.

Football Writers' Player of the Year in 2002

You will be missed! :salute:

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Super Rob....

He was/is the British stereotype of a continental footballer. Dashing, a bit greasy, defensively workshy, partial to the odd dive and sported slightly off key facial hair. He was largely a hate figure for fans of other clubs, which made us love him even more!

My favorite Bobby P goal was the curler vs Liverpool in 03/04.

pires_farewell17.jpg

We were getting pummeled most of the game if I remember correctly, then Bob pops up and pulls something out of the hat to bring the 3 points home to Highbury. That for me is what he was all about, scoring vital goals just when we need em. The chip vs Lazio in the CL, his winner vs Southampton in the FA cup final, ALL those goals vs the Spuds plus a shed load of other close range finishes.

He was a player capable of the spectacular, but mostly his contribution was finishing cooly where someone else like Freddie would trip, Henry would try a pirouette or Kanu would blast one wide. He will be tough to replace, 14-15 goals from midfield is priceless in the EPL.

God bless Le Bob :salute:

...Respect to Pires he was a joy to watch in his prime, even I applauded that goal against Liverpool

Re: The ARSENAL Thread - Rosicky is a Gooner!

Pires was an excellent player, however he will be fondly remembered for the Pires Flop as described below:-

"The Pires Flop – Best practised in a Olympic sized swimming pool, you’ll need to chase down some poor, unsuspecting defender so you can use them to propel yourself straight into a triple forward flying somersault with single tuck.

Note: Do remember that just because your manager will say he didn’t see it, doesn’t mean that everyone else and their dog won’t…"

As you can see some of his fans in croatia where trying to impress him here:-

Pires a good contributor and not a contaminator to the club....Villarreal don`t expect Pires to dive it`s not in his cards
