Arsenal Thread

If we lose Song, then Wenger will have to get in a replacement, he is one of our core squad players.

If he leaves it would be hard to think of us doing too well this season, not that I think Song is that great, but just because we will have quite a few people to bed into the team and it might take a while for that to happen (if you think about it realistically).

I like Song and he is an important part of the team, but it is strange, I don't think he is brilliant. He is effective, but not as effective defensively as I would like. If we can get a pretty penny for him and get a proper proven defensive midfielder, then it might not be that bad. It might even out the team a bit, as Song keeps drifting forward and doesn't seem to want to be the defensive midfielder anyway?

It's difficult, but hopefully Song will realise that if he goes, his chances of playing regularly are greatly reduced. I would like to think he would be excited at what the new Arsenal team can do this season and go from there.

I would rather Song stayed and we got in another defensive minded midfielder. If we did that, then it would be fantastic.

It's so bloody annoying though!

Fellani would be a dream ,more of a wet dream. To play next to Arteta again and be with fellow compadre and PL ready! Wenger would get a french capoute probably.

I would hate to lose Song ,but we lost bigger fish before and he`s a much smaller fish. Wenger has brought in more players then those that were sold. I see it that our end of business before the window closes will be about selling our surplus players .

I saw RM vs Milan and damn RM look so dangerous...Sahin was playing LB and did pretty good. kaka especially is selling himself or trying to make it on the team. A friendly where condition seem to be the main order . I saw players trying to make a statement, hell sahin might be RM new LB

Song is my favourite Arsenal player. Last season his passing was superb, but he tends to be careless now and then...that is not good, but it's what makes his style attractive for me.

I'd really like to see Song stay as he'll be warming up the bench at Barca but can play an increasingly more vital role for the club that's helped him become the player he is.

IF he was to leave though and Fellaini would be the replacement, I for one, actually think that'd be an upgrade.

I'd also say that if he was to leave, Capoue from Toulouse could come in and be a good replacement and for quite cheap since he's now desperate to leave having turned 24 and wanting to get back to French squad while Toulouse don't seem to be making progress.

He's a very good player and has a nice range of passing.

So my first preference would be for Song to just stay where he is as he's established and ready to perform from first week. But if he does leave, it's not the end of the world, there are a couple more than capable replacements for him.

As for Gervinho, as I said, anything will be a bonus for me, because he didn't do it for me in his 1st season. Was utterly frustrating to watch at times. But then again, it was only his first season and hopefully that's what he needed to settle and improve. Some players just hit the ground running, like Arshavin, and then all that fire dies down. Let's hope with Gervinho is the other way.

Gervinho WILL do better this season; no doubt for me. He won't be anything special but unless some freak injury or something happens which rules him out for majority of season, he'll make a bigger contributions than he did last season.

Song wanting to leave (if true) just underlines what a sick business football has become. No heart, no loyalty - and I'm not talking loyalty to a Club only, but to people who believed in you and been with you through thick and thin. Wenger certainly has been like a father to the likes of Song. Damn, I still remember the first time I saw Song playing. I wanted to smash my fucking telly mate! He was terrible, useless, frustrating and it was puzzling how Wenger believed in him. But Wenger has that eye for a talent and he was the one believing in him all the way. And now look at how Song is about to repay him...

But make no mistake, if Song leaves he will be another Hleb. These guys have yet to realise that the professeur made them the players they are, and in another environment they might not be the same player.
Hell, even Fabregas isn't guaranteed in Barca's first XI yet, how on Earth would Song fit in there?

If he does leave, it's not that bad, provided we get proper replacements.
Fellaini for example is an excellent DMF who knows what his role is. He doesn't have the creative output of Song, but at least he wouldn't be trying those "Hollywood" passes that Song tries to do and often cost us (watch Norwhich equaliser last season).

What pisses me off is how sickening this blatant tapping up by Barca is. Bear in mind that Song is under contract until 2015! Wenger shouldn't have to deal with this right now, FFS!

Done! Always for The Arsenal! :)
Still need some votes though, because the Liverpool match still has 51%

I wonder, is there any way to watch this Polish Channel+? I will need to find a place to watch it, since it won't be on Sky Sports...

Thanks. Yes, you could watch it on drhtv ( first link in google), but it will be in Polish and in quite poor quality, I bet there would be some streams at wiziwig in English.

I guess no one is too bother by the way we played ? The team looks good !

0 - 1 Vermaelen 7'
0 - 2 Podolski pk 15'
0 - 3 Podolski 44'
0 - 4 Gervinho 61'

a few rumors coming out too, M`Vila rather stay another year, Mexes swap w/ Bendtner?

Pre season can be taken with a pinch of salt, but it is good to know the match went well and Podolski scored a couple and Gervinho was playing well. So hopefully they play well at the weekend :))

Van Persie needs to be told he isn't the captain anymore. Even if he stays at Arsenal for the next year (Which I doubt, but still), he shouldn't be captain and I hope they sort that out. It gives the completely wrong message.

Who would you have instead?
Personally I'd say Vermaelan..

Vermaelen/Arteta/Sagna would be good calls. Rosicky will not be a regular starter I don't think, so not good to be captain.

It will go to Vermaelen though as he is Vice captain.

I heard that RvP got the armband indeed, but I thought it was after Vermaelen was subbed. So he took it off Vermaelen? WTF?

This is totally out of order IMO. Van Persie's posture this summer wasn't one of a club captain. If I were the manager he wouldn't get near the armband again ever.

But then again, if he does keep the armband, I wouldn't be too surprised. We've seen baffling decisions by Wenger in that department. When Gilberto was passed over for captaincy and it was given to Gallas, of all people, I swear I couldn't get my head around that.

Good to hear the new signings did great in the Koln friendly. Exciting times ahead.
As for RvP, it's looking more likely he will stay this season. With that statement he has misjudged his position, and Arsenal might make an example of him to avoid future wantaway players going on strike and forcing moves and all that shit.
It wouldn't be too bad if we let this one slip for a free transfer in the end. We would be keeping an in demand player for "only" £80k a week. And I take it he would be at least professional about it, because if he sabotages his final season, what would all his suitors think of that?

I think Arsenal are playing their hand perfectly in this.
