Arsenal Thread

Did someone just fart in here?

by the look of your avatar, and assuming it's you, i guess you just did mate, and are trying to get away ;)

anyway, Liverpools football is not as beautiful as Arsenals, and i doubt it will be anytime in the near future, but Clockender my friend, we do know how to play some effective football :))

Why do you have to justify yourself.

Liverpool mid ninties played pass, pass, side pass, pass. Won sod all.

Sometimes you have to mix it up. Whats the point in playing the football Arsenal did last night if they cant turn it into goals?

I think Sky said that last night? That you can over-pass the ball? I think Arsenal can be guilty of that to be honest. They're a great side to watch pass-and-move but I do think sometimes they try to pass the ball into the net too much. Great to watch though :)

Oh right...sorry. Large memory loss here from the team that invented the defensive game here in the England.

Oh that hit a nerve didn't it? :DD

The visionary Herbert Chapman invented 4-4-2 which is a system now used the world over. It can be a very attacking system and used as a defensive one. I don't thnk that means that we invented the defensive game does it? :SHAKE:

We played really well last and didn't get the result our performance deserved. Thats the way it goes sometimes, but we will be ready for the 2nd leg.

Don't forget we scored 10 goals at Anfield last season so we know what it takes. :-pp

Arsenal are defo capable of scoring, and winning at Anfield. But don't take those 2 results as any indication. First of all, both teams were playing their reserves. And the atmosphere will be totally different.

Haha - Do you really think I'd have my picture as my avatar if I looked like Gordon?!

No but George Graham started the trend of the defence first policy as a route to success here in England, a formula that landed you the Littlewoods cup and two titles.

Each manager has a different style with its strengths and weaknesses. Just because Liverpool didnt play Brazil 70' last night doesnt mean we didnt play a good game.

so liverpool got all the calls yesterday, shocking, i thought all refs were biased against them, arsenal was ripped off on that non penalty call, hleb was clearley taken down.

We won more with George, A Cup winners cup and an FA cup aswell - If memory serves correct?

I will have to look it up. My memory is terrible :DD

So George Graham's side were the first side in English football history to build its success on defensive play? Do me a favour. That is some bold statement you have made there.

yes you're right. It may not always be pretyy but it can work. The trick is finding a balance so you dont get bored to death watching it.

Who else did it in English football before Graham? No one did. Shankly, Busby,Clough, Paisley etc never played that way.

Its not a criticism mind im just pointing out that Arsenal havent always played champagne football for success.

Hope Van Persie and Adebayor recover fast. Walcott exceeded my Expectations. Seriously he fired up Liverpool's defence. I see this as another Milan game. But its Football, so anything is possible. Lets Hope for the Best!

Well actually if you see even now, Arsenal's Defence is not as good as Manchester or Liverpool. We have to accept it. But i dont know about this Graham thing introducing Defence in the English football.

Ive actually changed my mind, The anfield crowd will want them to attack which will help you lot, I reckon Liverpool will look to attack you lot and you'll pick them off. If Liverpool try to attack you for most parts i can see you lot having bundles of chances, 2-1 on the night :)

several thoughts:
1. the reff is blind.
2. wenger should really buy a good fox-in-the-box, cuz Ade isn't one, RVP isn't one, but he's always injuried so what's the difference, Edy is out for a long time, and Bendtner really needs more experience, he can't really cut it.
i'm talking abt a big, strong gorilla that should beat the crap out of the defenders and score. :)
3. a good left offensive midfielder is needed. since rosicky is out, diaby doesn't create much, a fast, technicall player is really needed.
these trasnfers really should be made, cuz just waiting for some players to blow up isn't gonna pay. plus the youngsters need some players to look up to in the squad.
4. why toure - rb, eboue - rmf & wallcot - reserve? wallcot deserves more than anyone to be at least a big match first 11 start.
i've seen the gunners play excellent, but yesterday night there was a clear lack of ideas in the attack.

hmm... its just that Wenger doesn't get it wrong when it comes to understanding a young one's talent (no i'm not talking about Young_gunUK here). So I feel that Bendtner should be having something to be getting the nod over Walcott. In fact next season Arsenal will be the team to be feared the most after their giant killing excursion this season!!

i fear Arsenal having the small team syndrome: to have the power to stand up to the big ones, even beat them, but at the spark is off close to the end of the season. (se ineaca precum tiganul la mal)
maybe the inconsistency or the inexperience is the problem. but i still think those 2 players need to be bought.

Wenger is a good coach im sure he knows when is the right time to get new players and drop a few.
