Arsenal Thread

I'm gonna be controversial and plump for Anelka. I think he realises he should never have left us and will appreciate playing for us. He is proven in the premiership and I think he would fit in well. Also he won't cost a fortune.

But I would go for Babel before. We just need to do something - We need another decent striker. Although I do think Adebayour will be good this season and Van Persie fingers crossed will be fit and emulate what he did last season before he was injured.

I just want us to show a bit of get up and go and show the world we mean business.
 
The experience is required.

This will help coax some of the younger players out of their shells. We have lost A LOT of experience over the last seasons.. Edu, Silvinho, Bergkamp, Pires, Wiltord, Vieira, Parlour, Adams, Keown. The type of play that comes from an experienced player is missing with only Gilberto, Lehmann and Henry now focal points.

With Henry spending most of his time with his hands on his hips, it tends to be Gilberto (as was in the game v Chelsea last season at the Bridge).

We have been strangley quiet this off season. I'm sure a lack of funds is the source of the inactivity. Although, after this weekend, i suspect Wenger to put in a bid for Babel, or some other 12 year old from some ex Soviet Bloc club.

tbh we actually have a v v good team that requires little investment imo but like you said, i do think wenger will try and nab a player from this summers u21 tournament. Reo-Coker? Drentre? Babel? but i honestly hope we try and sign Maduro although he has been signed up to Ajax till 2011

With Henry on the left, Anelka centre and RVP cutting in from the right like he does for Holland. How potent would that be!

That would be good.

I do think without injuries etc we will be challenging - but we have no luck with injuries so we definately need new people in to bolster the squad and to motivate the other players in the team.
 
I've always said for well over a year that Henry needs to go onto the wing and let a real target man do his thing up front. I dont think its ever gonna happen though.

He wouldn't really be an out an out winger though in a 4-3-3. He would be pushed left and be cutting in, just like he does now.
 
I thought it was only around £10 mill?

Barcelona are refusing to make an official comment, but the Spanish press are reporting that Henry would come to the Nou Camp for only £10million. FIFA rules, and the fact that Henry is in the last year of his contract with Arsenal, would prevent the north London club from asking for a larger sum.

Then again, it could be anything at this point

I thought we would at least get 20 mill for him.

But I am glad it is getting sorted early - hopefully we can get a decent amount of players in with this money before the start of the season.

If it does happen, cheers Henry - thanks for the memories! I tip Van Persie to be the next big thing at Arsenal. Bit sad Henry is leaving, but shit happens and we will progress without him.

End of the Wenger era? I think so.

Edu, Wiltord, Vieira, Pires, Campbell, Lauren, Bergkamp and now Henry.

What a great team we have had the honour to witness. Not built on blood money from a sugar daddy, but forged with grit and determination.

Enevitable he was going, but the seeds were sown as soon as Dein left. He has been an negative impact in many games last season -especially when walking around with his hands on his hips. Henry was out for most of last season, so we managed 4th without him, who knows what we'll achieve.

God know what's going to happen now. Wenger is in his last year as well, and with Rijkaard on ice, what's stopping Arsene from leaving? The whole stadium move, lack of money has well and truly sown the seeds for this move.

Titi, i believe the move will go through, so thanks for the memories, but also thanks for being such as sneaky cunt in your interviews of late...."i'm an Arsenal player... for now."

Forwards and onwards for Arsenal. No player is bigger than the club.
 
ouch...the last few months mustn't have been nice for the arse. From a football perspective, I'll like to see Wenger around but it looks increasingly unlikely.

It's a good thing you got the stadium sorted as in a way, you guys were stagnating a bit. Maybe big changes were required - I never personally thought giving Henry the captaincy was a good step in moving forward imo.

People must be going crazy about Barca now...but tbh, I can't see them winning much as Henry may dismantle the status of the ego's even further now (not that it is in a good state anyway)
 
Either Arsenal have gone completely insane (£16 million???) or they have something up their sleeves with other deals that will turn this situation around.

I am not Thierry's biggest fan but anyone can see that £16 million is a joke. If Sheva at 29 can go for £31 million (ok to Chelsea, but Barca ain't short of a bob or two) are you telling me Henry is only worth £16 mil? Bollocks is he. You have to be looking at £20-25 mil surely.

Anyway, nothing is signed yet but it seems inevitable that he will go. Oh well, cheers Thierry for all the goals (226 of them!!) and assists you gave us and good luck.
