I think its fair to call this a crisis.

I think it's fair to call that an alarmist, shit-stirring, Sun worthy comment. But I don't blame you bruv, I'd probably say something similar if Man Yoo or Chel$ki just blew it against Middlesbrough ;)

I don't buy any of this 'sell the whole team' mentality. We dominated the opening half hour, Reyes had a slew of early chances (how different might the game have been if he hadn't hit the post?) in what I feel was his best game for a while in Arsenal colours. His excellent goal at the end was more than deserved. Keep it up Jose, that's how we know you can play. Hleb also looked dynamic in midfield. He's a real capture in my book.

That was the good, now the bad. Firstly, I feel sorry for Cygan as he has been slowly creeping back into people's good books of late. His 2 goals vs Fulham seemed to be the icing in the cake, and he was looking not like a realistic alternative, but at least a reasonable back up. But yesterday it was service resumed. He didn't really have a bad game but he's the kind of player who makes at least 1 crucial error per match, and if you're a centre back that usually means a goal. No where near for Yakubu's, woeful defesive header for Maccarone and then quite possibly the worst attempt at playing offside you are ever likely to see straight after.

He's not a bad player. I'm sure he'll make a newly promoted or championship side very happy, but he's just not a top draw player, and he's not good enough for Arsenal.

Then there's Bergy. I'd never question the man's credentials as he's beyond a legend, but the reality is he's 36 and can't dominate a game like he used to. What does RVP have to do to get a start? I think Dennis would be much more effective as a sub in the 70th, when his lack of pace won't be exposed.

Where was Pires? He more than anyone disappeared in the second half. He's started badly this season, guess it can only get better. I hope.

Flamini AND Gilberto? Two DMFs? Too little ambition for me. Cesc has to be in there for one of those two or there's not enough creativity in the middle.

Ultimately we clearly missed Henners (but name me a team who wouldn't) but also Freddie's absence was notable. You have to think with all that passing around their box we needed someone to make a dash behind their back line and SHOOT. Fred's the man for that. But he wasn't there, and silly mistakes cost us a game we really should have won. It feels like deja vu for me this week. First England bend over to Northern Ireland, then England seem to give up the ashes and now this. I've pissed off someone upstairs at some point :(

I agree with you 100%.

What I mean by a crisis is that (and this is the same case with Man Utd) you need to have your best XI out to confidently win the game. We missed certain players just like you missed Henry. I think that was one of the problems with selling Vieira. If you had sold him and Henry wasnt on the pitch, you dont really have a leader.

This is why Chelsea are so consistent. All their players including the ones on the bench are more or less the same in terms of ability so if you swapped and changed people around, they are still as good as a team.

I think Wenger has learned from this game NOT to play Gilberto and Flamini together in a starting X1. They are the same type of players... and yea if anyone is to replace Vieria it has to be Fabregas.... He was making way better passing than Flamini and tried to open up space with sum vision. Flamini is a recovering DMF and this is why we had no creativity down the center......

I wont even comment on Cygan.... yes he is a good defender but ALWAYS has 1 or 2 awful mistakes that lead to goals..... Toure wasnt all that great either but I think maybe its cause he is missing a partner like Campbell.......

Bring back CAMPBELL SOUP GODDAMITT.........

here is the STarting 11 i think Wenger has to play for us to be the best

Lehmann
Lauren Toure Campbell Cole

Fab Gilberto
Llunberg Hleb/Reyes

Van Persie Henry

Van perse actually plays good on the right even though he is left footed.... Bergkamp has been Ghost for the start of the season as well as pires..... Reyes even though he messes up at times plays his heart out running around like a mad man...as well as Hleb........

And as I type this Vieira scores a beautiful header for Juve :(

We had no width at all. Hleb is a central attacking midfielder whihc showed last night because he kept cutting into the middle. 2 DMs is a stupid idea because as soon as Fabregas came on you could see we sparked up a bit.

We missed Freddy to give us some width and obviously Henry but Reyes had a quality game.

And I have no idea what Pires was doing

Cygan=shit again

Miss Vieira yet?

from planetfootball.com:

Vieira went stale

Patrick Vieira says he has a much greater chance of conquering Europe with Juventus than at Arsenal, whilst also saying he went stale at Highbury.

The French midfielder joined Juve for £13.5 million during the summer and the former Arsenal skipper has hit out at his old side.

Vieira says he has much more of a chance of landing the UEFA Champions League now he has swapped North London for Turin.

"At least on paper, I think I have a better chance of winning the Champions League with Juventus," said Vieira.

"Our squad is very strong. Very often there are two internationals competing for each place in the team."

Vieira says that he feels more pressure to win things at Juventus, adding that he had gone stale in the past couple of years at Arsene Wenger's side.

"There's a pressure here in Turin, a pressure on people to win, a determination in the air and in the environment that I hadn't felt in a long time at Arsenal.

"I have an excellent midfield partner with Emerson and we have a very strong midfield.

"Most of all, though, there's such a will to win here because Juventus are so used to winning.

"I feel pressure on me to do well and that hadn't happened in a while at Arsenal.

"I wasn't at my best over the last two years but each time my form has dipped I've been capable of pulling myself back up again.

"I needed a new challenge."

That`s Vieira playing the role (politics) remember `02 season wasn`t easy, with all the international games 4 the worldCup.Arsenal has alot on it`s plate w/ the stadium changing.I just hope thing get sorted soon or we won`t be able to get nobody to play 4 us.chelsy wins ch*mpion and everybody want to go there.ARSENAL vs. MANUD are still the best matches..

Not the greatest performance from the lads but I think we created the chances to win the game and Yeyes and Hleb have strung quite a few good performances together.

I comepletely agree with what joystick has said but I don't think we have to panic yet. The tabloids are making a mountain out of a mole hill! All I read about is this 9 point gap, yes but we do have a game in hand.

Bring on the Thun I say and hopefully we'll get a confidence boosting goal fest!

You would think that its only a minor thing because its very early in the season. But people are forgetting that the Premiership is becoming a very brutal competition. One loss can hurt you greatly now and leave you playing catch up. Arsenal had to go undefeated to win their last title. Chelsea only lost once to win theirs last season. And now just 5 games into the season and Arsenal have already lost twice. If you would have to judge things by the last two seasons, one would say that Arsenal have already lost the title. Man Utd drew and to most fans, it felt like a loss.

Chelsea seem to have the Champion's luck and theres no stopping them now. If Chelsea could just draw a few and maybe lose one or two, then maybe Arsenal and Man Utd have a chance. Cuz right now, Chelsea look as though they can win 38 games in a row.

Well I will be there anyway. It looks an important game now!

There is no need to panic(yet!). If Reyes had scored in the first couple of mins it would have been a different game. We really lose when scoring first. We also lost to a dodgy goal at Chelsea when we matched them on the day. It seems at the moment that "lucky Arsenal" have run out of luck. Things aren't going our way at the moment but in will pick up. I will echo some of the comments here about a few of the players though.

Cygan - Where is Big Phil?
Pires - Un-effective, Un-interested.
Bergy - Should be a sub, start with Van Persie
Flamini - Fabregas should be first choice, Flamini and Gilberto do not look like a partnership to me.

With Henry out for 4 weeks, I think a Reyes\RVP partnership should be given time to gel.

A very brutal competition? I don't think so. This just proves that its a myth that the Premiership is the best league in the world. Its highly uncompetitive. The quality of the teams in the mid to bottom half is questionable. They say that the EPL is where teams from the bottom can beat teams from the top but can you honestly see Chelsea losing to anyone else other than Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool this season? I can't.

hello everybody!!!!!
some newspapers today say that Del Piero will leave Juventus at the end of this season to join Gunners because it has already an agreement with the society and with Wenger...what do you think?
Will he play regularly or not? Can he hypothetical be a holder?

sorry for english

What newspapers said it giammo?, I think it's very difficult that transfer be done.

"controcampo" said it...I konow the transfer is very difficult but now delpiero isn't a holder in juventus ..he never plays and there are a lot of possibilities that next year Cassano arrives in torino....and with a lot of possibilities del piero will leave juventus...

controcampo isn't a very qualified newspaper but the sensation is that del piero 'll leave italy next season...and the excellent relationships between arsenal and juve make me think that the transaction could be come true

Hmmm...interesting gossip. I seem to remember there was a time when Arsenal (and pretty much the rest of the country) fans couldn't believe that Dennis Bergkamp was playing for them. Anything is possible in football and I think Del Piero needs a new challenge. Has he past his peak though?

How can you not see it as a brutal competition? As a Arsenal fan, you should know this better than most others after your undefeated season. One or two losses can sometimes mean you're already out of the title race now. Most other leagues let you get away with defeats. But in the EPL, any team with the ambition of winning the title have to set themselves the target of going undefeated or else they dont have a chance.

I totally agree.

Do you mean that he's seen better times? It's true. But last season showed everyone that he's a class player. :)

nowadays del piero plays a little but he can change the result of the match when he wants...it's a champions but uor coach don't believe in him...

I don't understand Cappelo playing both Trezeguet and Ibra-cadbra... Del Piero is permanent class, and played very well last season. Remember the overhead kick cross he did to Trezeguet when they beat Milan.

What do the Juve Tifosi think? I heard they sing songs about cappelo not playing Alex.

I'd like to see him play for the Arsenal. Probably slot in when Bergkamp leaves and will fit into the number 10 shirt. I'm all excited now! Iceman out the door, in comes Pinturicchio!!

Cassano to juve is prob going to happen.

on another note, we need a winger for sure as Pires looks really really disinterested. Prob ship him off to Gala in January.

Vieira looked awesome for Juventus. f*cking c*nt! hahaha... didn't stop me getting a Juventus shirt with his name on the back!

Turns 31 this year. Cassano is still dubious over a Juve move, but its getting less likely since A) Juve have 4 strikers B) Cassano just renewed his contract C) Cassano isnt cheap, and Juve just spent on Vieira.

yes, it's 31yo...but with a lot of possibilities cassano 'll join juve next season...if del piero 'll leave juve the society will not remain with only 3-4 fw but will buy another player: cassano, the "pupill" of Capello
