I really don't know how I feel about it. Part of the reason I loved the game was that you didn't know whether you were safe or not, and playing the AI only on any game is crap. Beating the AI just can't compare to beating another person.
But then, getting on the train out only to find someone hiding around the corner to murder you, completely wasting your last 30 minutes, is boring.
I feel like some halfway-house has to be found. If they add a permanent switch, then that first experience is lost forever. PvP will be aggressive only, PvE will be boring.
How about, keep it as it is, but add a forced, coloured indicator in players' backpacks that shows you their tendency to kill others. Green for "doesn't usually", yellow for "fights back" and red for "twat".
The main reason I stopped playing is because of the amount the game changed.
In the beginning it was great fun, most teams worked together and it was more of a social game taken down the ARC and I enjoyed it.
The best games I had was everyone working together or trying to do trials and stuff together.
Then when everyone had completed most of the missions and there was nothing else to do the game starting turning into the will they won't they shoot on site and it added another dimension to the game which made you on edge and it was fun.
There was nothing more scary than using an Epic key on a duo or trio game and then hoping you get out alive.
Unfortunately then probably after Christmas and about a month after the winter addon with the Candleberries, came the full on PvP and the camping at certain spots on the map.
This is what completely killed the game for me and my mates, it just became a PvP, free load out kill fest.
The actual PvP element didn't really bother me, it was the ratting.
ARC Raiders also suffered as the PvP isn't even that great as even going in with a heavy shield if people are camping behind a door with a Torrente you are dead, even a free sticher will easily kill someone - Shields should be more powerful so PvP becomes more of a good fight than he who shoots first wins.
For me it was a shame this happened as loved the game and put in a couple of hundred hours in to the game, until this became the norm.
I will enjoy the PvE mode as will mean can take some heavy guns in without the fear of someone shooting me in the back because they went free load out against a queen.
The flag indicator or something on your backpack should be indicated so you know how to deal with someone.
