Anth's 23 Mods // Gameplay v6.0 Released

A little bit of criticism;
I was enjoying the hell out of v3.0 but something in v3.1 got changed.
Played 5 matches with Arsenal and haven't scored a goal yet. I can't use sprint button in somewhat tight spaces and CPU players have near perfect man and zone marking. They instantly know where I make a run or pass.
Think I will go back to v3.0 until the V4 comes out.
Thanks again for your hard work man!
The difference between 3.0 and 3.1 is just a tiny, tiny change to lob passing error.

I hear what you’re saying regarding the marking, sprinting etc and I’m refining it for v4.

Update: It's been an absolute nightmare to try and balance everything guys but I'm slowly getting there. I can't even begin to explain how frustrating it is to deal with speed/acceleration and the other issues that come with it! I had to re-balance it again today, but it's in a much better place now than before.

I've also fixed a lot of the silly passing errors. There will still be directional errors, but far less scuffs etc for no reason (especially at the higher end of teams). This really improves the flow when playing. This applies to long and short passes.

I've toned down how far the ball goes in front of you when sprinting (especially with very good dribblers in tight spaces), while still keeping the idea in place.

I'm trying guys, but just remember, it's never going to be perfect for everyone and there's elements that exist in this game that make it a real battle to try and smooth out certain issues. Getting the proper balance between bad, good and then elite players - but still keeping them all human is no picnic :LMAO:but I'm enjoying the challenge and I'm really happy with the progress now.

24 hours ago it wasn't looking likely, but I think a release of 4.0 this week could still happen!

Next up I'm working on refining physicality.

A bit of Mbappe being Mbappe in v4.0. Speed differences and super defensive reactions from 3.1 sorted! Don't expect to be able to do that against anyone all the time though! That's what I'm fine tuning at the moment - having the ability to defend well even against the best, but also being able to beat the best with the right player/timing etc.

I love that in 2 seconds of the video how the midfielder was blocking the wings lane. Usually in FIFA 23, they those lanes free to be run at.

I haven’t touched fouls exactly, but they’re impacted by the physicality, which I’ve worked on refining in this version.
Sorry if it was asked before, but are you working also on more crosses and more shots from out of the box from CPU?

Best answer I can give is, kind of haha.
@Rbn I don’t mean to sound evasive by the way, it’s just a difficult one to answer. I have looked at them and made tweaks which have helped somewhat, but sometimes other little tweaks on top of that actually bring out the changes more, but they need discovering over time if that makes sense.

Hey man I know exactly what you meant. I know there are many things to explore. The reason why I asked is because I came late to modded FIFA 23 and didn´t knew if it was already looked at, also I found that to be so frustrating. I know you will get there sooner or later.
I respect and appreaciate all the time you and all the modders spend on try to make games enjoyable. Thanks a lot!

***V4.0 RELEASE***

It's up and ready to go!! I decided to release v4.0 as I feel the base has been dug into and re-worked to a point that I'm really happy with for now. I feel I’ve maintained what was good about the last version also.

Compared to v3.1 expect to see a lot more depth. Including:

- Greater difference between players (good, ‘bad’, elite) - both in terms of athleticism and skill set
- Refined physicality for a more solid experience (some pretty interesting discoveries made here)
- Refined sprinting touch
- Refined shot and passing errors
- A lot of overall fixes and balances for various things!

Hopefully you can find some more of the details as you play!

This is not going to be the last version - I'm still working on it a lot and taking it step by step. I don't want to tinker randomly at different things as everything can break down very fast. I've worked on many areas for this version and there's also many I haven't touched yet. I know exactly which areas I'll be looking at next and it's going to be tough one but will have a big impact if I can get there. So to be clear, the majority of this release is about creating the foundation to build on for the future.

Remember guys, we’re always battling the core game and some (questionable) fundaments with these changes, so there are elements beyond our control and some decisions need to be made as a result of what we’re up against. Don’t expect perfection!

As always, feedback welcomed and hope everyone enjoys!

Hey man, first of all thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this. I knew that 4.0 is going to be better than 3.1 but I didn't realize by this much. It's extremely impressive on how much better 4.0 is from 3.1 in almost every department. You have retained the good things about 3.1 and added onto it tons more better things. I am extremely hooked now and I ask people that have quit on FIFA since FIFA 20 to give this FIFA a try with this gameplay mod if you are on PC. You won't regret it.

Anyway here's my feedback after playing 5 matches

Code:
Pros:
- Defending elite dribblers is now hard and requires proper positioning over mindlessly tackling to win the ball.
- CPU doesn't want to give up the ball that easily.
- Perfect balance of speed between fast and slow players.
- Bad defenders can mistime tackles leading to fouls.
- Closing down rate by the CPU has improved.
- Agility and movement/turning animation is extremely smooth. Reminds me of FIFA 16.
- Good amount of lobbed through pass by the CPU depending on the team.
- Lots of random stumbling animation especially when players lose balance adds a nice touch and risk to the game.
- Lots more movement around the field. Players are less staticy.
- Good positioning and covering spaces by the defenders and the midfielders. Realistic amount of track-back depending on the player and team.
- Very good attacking positioning by elite attackers. They are constantly trying to find space.
- Perfect first touch error based on the player's speed during touch(if they are sprinting) and the ball control stat(?)
- Good amount of shot error and shot variation. Some with lots of power, some with not a lot of power, mishits, etc.
- Great amount of physicality and strength showcased all around the pitch.
- CPU now efficiently blocks passing lanes forcing you to pass sideways or back.
- CPU slide tackles more especially to win the ball.
- Good amount of interception based on player's attributes.
- Lob passes have excellent ball physics.
- Dribbling is perfect. Not too overpowered, not too underpowered. You cannot dribble through an entire team but you can dribble enough to get space for a shot or for a teammate. You also don't need to use skill moves to beat players.
- The game is much more challenging now. The CPU doesn't want to give up easily.
- Crossing feels good. Not too woobly and not too flat.
- Nice amount of fouls. I average around 12-13 fouls in total per match in 6 mins halves.
- I am just having too much fun with this new gameplay.

Cons:
- Sometimes it's easy to outposess any teams.
- CPU with long balls doesn't play any lob passes.
- A little too much ground pass error by top passers that are CPU Controlled. For bad passer, it's a little bit too easy to pass.
- Driven ground pass is a little bit too accurate for players that have bad short pass stat of 50s.
- Bad goalkeepers are way too good.
- My work performance will be lowered now due to the amount of fun I am having with this new gameplay already.

Here's a little snippet of some dribbling with only left stick(no skill moves):

Was eagering for it so much, best gameplay by far imo. Cant wait to jump into 4.0 now!

Hi people, sorry for my quesion, I would like to test this gameplay but dont know how to install. Is it neccesary to add the 2 files to mod manager?¿
Thanks

You only have to use one file, depending on which modding tool you play with. Most common is Mod Manager, which you need the .fifamod file for. From Mod Manager, you apply it to your game.

I only played one match now on the new 4.0, but here's my first impression so far. 10 min halves, full manual. I played with Arsenal against Bournemouth. What impressed me most was how open the game felt. The weaker team was actually still dangerous in front of goal, while not playing tiki-taka 90% passing style, but actually how they should be playing, with long balls to use the space behind my defense. I missed this so much in the vanilla game! I had 22 shots in the end, Bournemouth 14, and the match ended 4-1 after they went up 0-1 after 20 minutes. There only were 5 fouls total in the game though, but several very important ones: Their goal came from a penalty because I came out with Ramsdale to catch a long ball into the box, and he actually went right into Solanke. I never saw such a foul in this year's game before. Also, my fourth goal was a penalty as well, after one of their defenders ran into Saka to clear a low cross. This would never ever have been a foul in vanilla, but it clearly should be one. Very nice to see!

Really impressed with what you have achieved @Anth James. This v4 is a massive improvement over the default game but also over the V3.
It feels like I am controlling professional footballer (with v3 it felt like they were more like amateurs) but I need to be concentrated about the timing and the way I drive the ball. You managed somehow to bring true physicality (not necessarily resulting in fouls) to this game. I have seen a lot of variety in the cpu approach too and good player identity (Modric was a nightmare for instance). The thing that could take a bit of improvement: the ability of good possession teams to retain more the ball. But this version is already a keeper.

Good to have you back in FIFA 23 Pap :)

After another match, I would agree with others here that it may be a tad too easy to retain the ball against stronger opponents. But it's not a big issue for me. Also, I think I would like the "uncertainty factor" of sprints to be a tad higher again. It should not be as extreme as in 3.0/3.1, but currently I feel that even players with less ability on the ball can run circles around defenders, as long as they are fast enough. My second match ended in a 3-5 away win with Aris at PAOK, which I should have lost according to xG. They had 19 shots to my 12, and I really struggled to keep their offense in check. Still, for my taste, the amount of goals may be a bit too much, including experiences with 3.0/3.1 versions. Personally I think I will try to increase the shot error slider for CPU and the user. I used 75/75 from the OS community sliders on vanilla gameplay, but this should be too much in this case. I will tinker a bit and see where it feels good.

Oh, in case that it got lost somewhere in my ramblings: I LOVE where this mod is going, thank you so much for your work @Anth James!

You are insane. Its better than previous overall. Its more organic, fluid and free but hard at the same time. Finally AI dribble and make crosses there is individuality. Amazing

Thanks so much everyone for the feedback! I'm really happy that you're enjoying the gameplay and are seeing the benefits that I've tried to bring in. It's great having like minded people in here to get excellent feedback from. Special thanks to @Topaz for helping me with analysis behind the scenes and for seeing a lot of what needed work - especially regarding the speed of players.

Really good shout regarding feedback about good teams and their lack of ability to hold the ball. I had a look into this just now and I can see exactly what I need to fix. I think I overestimated some of the passing stats for players in these teams and that's where the adjustment needed to come from. I just did a quick test and Real Madrid went from 80ish% passing and not threatening enough in v4.0 to 90% and much more difficult. I just need to balance this out a little and make sure nothing has been impacted across all ranges of teams and I'll release a 4.1 to fix this.

@dominat0r Man you're doing really well to get that amount of shots in a game. I play 10 min halves too and I'm getting shot counts of either side of 10 for a game for both teams. Regarding the sprinting touch, I may release a version that has this a little higher just for those people who like it. I just need to work on that a little more first.

***RELEASE V4.1***

Quick but impactful update here guys. I've only tweaked passing errors (compared to v4.0). You can now really feel the strength of good teams and you can also see the difficulty in executing certain passes with lower rated players more too. In my tests it's not overpowered, there’s still errors, but you can have a lot more faith in the ability of strong teams to hold the ball and create scoring chances. You need to be on your toes a lot more against big teams now and you can also feel the difference even when playing lower opposition in your own league compared to the top guys. Thanks to those who picked it up, I think this adds to the individuality. Feedback welcomed as always as I can refine from here if needed (there's a little something with this update that I'm just keeping an eye on).

I've just tried 4.0 & it's a different experience to the vanilla game, it's a lot more compact in midfield than before and the opposing AI seem to do a lot less of that ninja dribbling on the goal like in the box they used to.

There's certain things that cannot be salvaged like non controlled defenders running away from a striker intentionally letting through. That stuff will never not infuriate me as it's just so inexplicably jarring words can't describe the anger it causes.

The other issue that can't be salvaged is generally ball physics are just so contrived and bad. Passes and shots seem so scripted & locked no matter what you do. Passes never curl, they always travel in a dead straight line and seem to always be on rails towards the oppositions feet. Last night I had a game where I was through on goal several times and every time I tried calmy place it in the bottom corner, the game makes your striker blast it, usually right at the keeper too.

There's so many things I want to love about this game from the presentation, animations and general technology surrounding the game, but the general lack of respect for human agency and input in this just turns me right off.

I am not exactly back yet. I still have hard time imaging me playing it in career mode, BUT I have been able to complete a few games which hasn't happen since the very beginning with the game (not because it was better back then, just I gave it a fair try).
That's proper progress as far as I'm concerned Pap haha. I was the same as you for months, couldn't touch it. I'm very much enjoying it now. NEVER expected to say that on release day!
