Anth's 23 Mods // Gameplay v6.0 Released

A late addition to v5.0 will be improved goal kick positioning so that you don't have half the field to run without an opposing player! This will make playing out from the back more difficult.

I've been working on this a lot over the last few weeks to try and improve/balance out some fundamental issues with the gameplay.

I won't list everything that's changed as so many of the changes interrelate, but a lot of the changes are based around the subtle interactions between players - and the knock on impact this has on many areas across the pitch. The result is a slower, more physical, passing game where player individuality matters, but is hopefully represented in a more subtle way - and where speed/athleticism isn't everything. Happy to go into detail if anyone has questions regarding certain decisions.

It's really important to remember that a lot of decisions made are not solely based around ideological views of football, but instead are needed to be based around the core mechanics of the game we're working with. Some decisions just have to be made for the game itself to be balanced and some ideas of what is perfect have to be left behind.

- Designed to be played on Legendary/Normal Speed/8-10 minute halves/Competitor Mode OFF/Player Based Difficult ON

- You can obviously play whichever way you like (difficulty included), but keep in mind when providing feedback that I've only tested/balanced this mod for Legendary and it is balanced for the defensive awareness/interaction.

- If you play manual then I highly recommend you up the Powerbar slider (somewhere around 65-70ish)

- 1v1 has a massive impact on gameplay and despite all we can do, we cannot magically make this go away. Please keep this in mind when providing feedback.

- Everyone plays with different half lengths/has different styles - no one mod is going to suit everyone. Note: Ignore the TU warning if you get it when using after TU12. This gameplay mod does not use any legacy files, so it will continue to work regardless of the TU as long as it's beyond 12.

Just by watching the video(haven't tried the patch yet) I can see massive improvements to positioning and how dynamic it is. Especially on the defensive half, how coordinate the attackers are at pressing defenders(which is true to modern football). I also love how cramped up the midfield is and the wings are tucked in so you cannot just mindlessly run between the wings. Also love that the defenders doesn't stop chasing the attackers randomly(that annoyed me a lot and made the game easy). Going to try it out soon mate but good work!

First look into the Video was really nice. Midfield play is there. Much more than in Vanilla gp. Gamepace looks really enjoying for the viewer because of the really good pace in general in game. The AI is much more focused to cover your Players. I see a many ball passes around and near your own box because the AI strikers attack very early and try to close the space to your midfield Players.
Will test it this evening on the Pitch. I really enjoyed to watch the Video because of a Match which is "played" rather than "rushed" from left to right and vice versa. Makes me wanna try out 10 min Half for the first time like you recommend. Ususally I play 6 or max 7 min.
Curious about how it feels on my own controller.

Manual for the truly experience. ;) I switched to it a couple of weeks ago from semi. I like it a lot. Never regret till today

Once you go manual you can't go back to assisted. I have been playing FUMA for around 3 years now. Started on PES 2021 and continued into Fifa 22 & 23 👍🏻
 
Really great work on the mod. Great pace, lots of passing errors and pretty hard to dribble past players. Now I just need to get some skill. Cannot buy a goal so far, playing on the recommended Legendary. Most games have been pretty tight though, still I even lost a game 9-0 and kind of found it enjoyable since I could see where I went wrong defensively.
 
It's really good @Anth James I think you can stop now haha.:LOL: You were able to eradicate pretty much all the issues I had with 4.1 while still keeping the integrity of that GP mod. Really enjoying the passing and it seems you added more error when passing on players weak foot . Also really like the improved physicality without going overboard with unnecessary fouling. Shirt grab fouls were nonexistent for me in the last version but I quite a few in the matches I played. Overall really good and I appreciate you taking your time before releasing this definitely seems you put in a lot of work to get it to this point. Also here is an example of the shirt pull foul I was able to draw, the last mod my player would not of gone down in this situation.

Agree. I still need to learn more fine tuning of passes and shots but it´s definetly a game changer. I will not go back because it feels now much more individual when you create a chance and score a "real own prepared" goal. Same with a nice triangle pass which leads to a good chance or even a nice goal.
 
A question Anth James
Can you (in your game) access and play Fifa World Cup Qatar?
The reason I'm asking because if I use FMM with any mod the world cup mode hangs and I have to force close the game to desktop. I want to see if it's me only or this is the case with others.

With no FMM the world cup works fine.

And does the gameplay mod work in that mode?

Unfortunately the esim turf isn't my mod, so I'll post the reshade I've been working on this week, but for esim turf, you'll have to speak to @6ons1

Whatever works for you my friend. I play part semi/part manual usually but sometimes I go all manual. If you do play manual then definitely up that powerbar slider - it makes a world of difference.

For sure, go with what works best for you time wise. If you find that there's not enough goals or enough action on lower halves then you can always up it.

Amazing man, great you're enjoying it. Love how he brings him down there with the shirt pull - I've worked on making those interactions like that more meaningful. On default they kind of just flap their arms at the player but do nothing haha.

Thank-you! I'm not sure what you mean by the kind of physics I use, but I have made some small adjustments to the physics themselves. I’ve also worked a lot on the speed/acceleration of many different passes and shots so that the behaviour/trajectory is much more natural. Happy to hear you're enjoying it!

Like the midfield play in the game now on my side and AI side. So good to see the "easy wing running" is gone. The AI did now what they should do always before. And the overpowered running and dribbling is history. I can play now on Legendary and it felt challenging but not impossible for me like before on Legendary.

One big thing comes to my attention, Anth. What happend to the referee when AI tackles me from behind which must be a red card or even a yellow?? I forced myself to test it. I tackle the AI striker close before my box and from behind a bad foul. No referee reaction?! Could that be fixed. My settings are lenient for the referee. Should I make him strength? Sorry for that minus, but it´s not real the acting of the referee.
Besides that, best job you have done! All the testing are to see now leading to a very satisfying gameplay. Well done.
 
I tried your mod tonight a couple of games with the recommended settings, I was from mod hatesince 1.1.0
I have seen some excellent things on the pitch, maybe I have some wrong settings but I have seen a more frenetic pace and the number of fouls and tackles has significantly reduced.
moreover, the opponents in the area did what they wanted, I went from playing hard-fought games with few goals to games with many goals and a high percentage of completion. I have to say, however, that in terms of animations and movements it's a lot of stuff, thanks, keep it up, any suggestions to improve my experience? I have default slides and play in manual

You have the Turf mod containing in the download. I just don´t know if the Turf mod is different to the paid Esim Version. But I use the AIO eSim mod and the Turf looks great in my game. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I can't say I've had that experience, especially related to pace.

In terms of AI difficulty, that's an extremely subjective thing for everyone. I've worked on making the CPU challenging but also more realistic. I've eliminated the CPU spamming 8 million tricks and playing tika-taka around you for the most part. I've worked on making the overall gameplay scope be open to all sorts of games as I still want team tactics to matter. In my experience I've had some games that are more open with lots of shots and others are quite scrappy with greater midfield battles.

Regarding fouls, I haven't worked on fouls as such, but I've worked on making the interactions between players more 'solid', so there's far less times where bodies and limbs are ignored. I'd recommend trying some more games with a range of teams and see how you find it.

Will do related about referee strictness. I could done that before I reviewed it here. I mismatched that I had read it should be lenient. Idk why. haha.

Also good to know the eSim Turf mod is the same you have.
 
Huge job! Thanks a million. I am adapting it to be able to play futsal in Volta, although the defense still leaves too many spaces (in Volta), but what you have achieved is impressive.
 
After I played couple of matches with this mod, this is the most perfect patch for 6-7 mins halves game on ultimate difficulty. The challenge it provides scoring a goal and maintaining the ball is the greatest feeling of all time. You may not like the core issues of FIFA 23(the animations, the 1v1, etc) but as a gaming experience, this is top notch. Against big teams, it feels like playing dark souls. I love it. You can easily get demolished by big teams if you are trying to play attacking based possession game. You will need to adjust your tactics and formation if you want to win against them(parking the bus and going counter attack) and this has been the main thing i had been looking for the longest time in this game. With other gameplay mods and even in vanilla, I could beat Man City 5-0 with a league 2 team on ultimate mode and then end up losing against a bad league 2 team which made no sense. My feedback so far is this mod is perfect and doesn't need any changes. However if I have to really name something that could be improved is maybe, players with over 86 passing ability(short and long) should make a bit less mistake in passing especially easy situations. But that's very nitpik. Also I am playing it in TU11.

If you find the game fast, then you most likely have the gameplay mod partially installed. To fix that, remove your ModData folder and then go to %localappdata% and remove all the temp files within the Temp folder. And then let the modding tool regenerate all the files. That happened to me multiple files when all of a sudden the game will partially turn vanilla.
 
Does it also work for Volta matches? Fantastic!
Yes, I take the files that have been modified in the mod, and import them into the Volta files. It doesn't work so well, because you have to adapt some things, but it's better than the basic one, which doesn't defend anything!
