anyone think the new shooting system is extremely flawed?

Apparently when you press the shoot button the pace of the shot is the same whether you hold the button down for long or not. When you do hold the button down all it changes is the height.

Although its good that you can have firm low shots, it all seems a little unrealistic to me.

Still, the game cant be any worse than RTWC.

Have you tried the double tap shot? on 06 if you did this it would be a low hard driven shot?

I decided to review the demo so here goes.

Having played and enjoyed FIFA 06 and sometimes wishing it had that little bit more to it I was looking forward to see what EA were going to do with this incarnation of the World Cup. The first thing that struck me about the Demo was the menu screen, very well structured by the looks of it and simple. Now 1 thing that did catch my attention was when I had selected my teams and the game went to load it took up to as much as 20 seconds for the match to load compared to FIFA 06 which took about 3 seconds! why so much of a big difference? because the detail level in WC 06 is higher, player facial models look more textured and more life like than FIFA 06, the stadiums have more detail to them too but what I didnt like was the overkill amount of Confetti! bit too much for my liking! Anyway graphically the game looks reasonable for a PS2,Xbox Port to the PC the Xbox 360 version looks 1000 times better.

Gameplay, the mechanics of the game have again improved, slick passing, quick turning and player movement, good player runs, an excellent killer through ball, Quick strikers can no longer be caught and pulled back by slow defenders (a bug in my opinion which dogged FIFA 06) Shooting..... now to start with I took a shot and thought What the hell? as it trickled to the goalie and he picked it up easily.... then I realised the power bar isnt very sensitive, once I sussed that out I was soon hitting some screaming shots from Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard. Scored some excellent goals! Smashed an Owen Goal in off the crossbar which had me going crazy in my seat! thoroughly enjoyed it and thought YES! this is what it is meant to be all about.

Sounds, you hear the usual generic chants plus some country specific stuff like national anthems being sang which again adds to the authenticity and atmosphere of the game somewhat. Commentary has always been a good feature of FIFA since 1998. Clive Tyldsley and Andy Townsend do a fantastic job! it makes me feel like im playing UEFA Champions league Excellent Play By Play from these two and it makes the game feel like your part of the experience.

All in All I have to say I was impressed, especially now the stupid goalie animation where you see him drop the ball and you cant go anywhere near him has been taken out and replaced with a real one where you can go for the ball and if your quick enough you can score!

I think the full game should get at least a 9/10 this time around.

Graphics 8/10
Sounds 9/10
Gameplay 9/10
Overall 9/10

Oooooohhhh ayeeeeh aaaaayyeee aayyyy ooohh bah bah bah shut up just shut up shut up, shut it up just shut up shut up...

Not that bad actually, kinda f**k up with passing now and again, dribbling's pretty good I reckon, feels alot less stiff than FIFA 06.

Presentation is amazing, commentry is exemplary, couldn't be better, player likenesses (for England anyway, Terry, Gerrard, A Cole) put Konami's effort to shame.

Not a bad game, I'll give it 8 joysticks out of 10

"Can we have better gameplay please? The graphics are already quite good."

"Ow. Okay, well, can you at least CHANGE the gameplay? I mean, I don't want to play last year's game. Otherwise I'd buy, well, last year's game!"
*Poke*
"Hey, stop that. Okay, well, can you at least just stop poking me in the..."

Actually though, there's a bigger fanbase for "rockin-lookin stadiums and da latest kits and an ugly Wayne Rooney lol" than there is for a football game that plays like a game of football.

They'll never change. And they'll never stop making money.

I will wait till the 360 demo is out, and if its wank i wont bother, not gonna buy a game just because its the OFFICIAL world cup game

couple things i like that are better than in PES5: animation, air passing, goalkeeping, dribbling, camera angles, sounds/commentary.

things that are not as good as in PES5: ground passing(far passes), player models, free kicks/corners.

sure there are other plusses and minuses but overall the game aint as bad as the last version was this is based on the pc demo(slow gameplay/world class difficulty level on) though so the 360 version has much better graphics atleast and thats great thing. as i aint gonna buy ps2 or pc versions of PES anymore having 360, i think this game deserves the spot to be first football game for my 360 until PES6 comes and hopefully replaces it.

Thanks for the guys who have bothered to play it and have seen that it does play a decent game, the rest of you I think are just being too hard on it or you havent bothered to play it but its your choice.

PES is definitely the no 1 footy title I agree with you all on that but FIFA is starting to become reasonable again.

I have bothered to play it, and within minutes of pressing cross and shoot you can tell it's doing most of the work for you. These are basic elements of any football game and the question posed to developers is can you get it right? FIFA just avoids the question by delivering inch-perfect, curving crosses, and wonderful, curved strikes into the net for you. Sure the game manages to get your fundemental short-passes done correctly, but even with the through balls the defensive AI is absolutely shocking.

It does a fantastic job of presenting itself, but if the presentation was lowered to WE/PES' level would you buy the game based on how it actually played?

I have no problem with FIFA being a good game, I wish it was a good game it might force Konami to get their finger out regarding some of the more neglected issues in it's series, but it's completely clear that the developers of FIFA do not know how to make a football game that plays well.

in the demo you have played its at the easy level so thats probably why its done most of the work for you, I changed the Locale.ini file and changed the difficulty setting to make it harder and suddenly not every cross in pin point, the killer through ball doesnt always work and your shots arent as assisted as they are on the easier setting.....

Edit: the defence's AI also isnt awful :)

From what ive seen watching the 360 version in action on videos it looks quite good, stadium details are good, pitch textures are alright, the lighting effects now look a lot more realistic my concern is still the player models, they havent changed much from the ones in RTFWC and they sucked! also some of the texturing on the kits and players skins dont look right either, looks a bit like a plastic model of the player and something I hope EA can address, im sure when they see what Next Gen PES will look like on 360 it will make them get their finger out and start making some good changes.

To those who have played the PC demo and found it too easy and AI to be poor I would strongly suggest doing what I did and editing the Locale.ini file and changing the difficulty number up to 3 or 4 if your feeling lucky and then see how it plays!.

Im surprised about how many people are actually excited about this game, mainly because WE10 comes out a day before! Surely thats the game we will all be playing over the World Cup?

Ofcourse, I can understand you looking forward to Fifa WC'06 if you dont have a PS2...
