Why is pes going downhill?

When it first came out on computer, pes 3, it was looking really good and each version was getting closer and closer to smashing fifa out of competition but since 2008, its all gone terribly wrong.
And usually, konami are really good at taking care of the simple stuff, so I will ask a few questions that really have no explaination and shouldn't even exist but konami have completely missed the mark.

Firstly, why is there so many bugs? They spend so much money on the marketing and all that shit , making commercials with messi etc etc, but then u get the game and all sorts of bugs appear like the BAL etc.

Next, WHY is the BAL mode so linear? There is no difference in playing style from team to team, whether you play for Napoli or Man utdm you cpu teammates are always playing in the same style. This shouldn't happen in a newly offered mode with such huge potential.

Next, WHY is the online so TERRIBLE? FIFA just raked in HUGE dough from people who read reviews of both games and chose fifa simply because the PES online is unplayable, its simply unplayable. In a video game world RULED by online play nowadays how do you not make it a priority to organize the online play? There should be optimized gameplay so that there is literally 0 lag because there are games out there that are made playable online which require alot more bandwidth than PES.

WHY is Champions League a mode that seems like it was created a day before the game was due to be completed? They finally get an exclusive license for this competition and they manage to FUCK IT UP somehow? How do you screw up the format of such a hugely popular and known competition? HOW on earth does a huge video game maker make such a mistake especially since they been making soccer games and following the soccer world for such a long time? They actually got the format of champions league wrong and I cannot contemplate this in my head i just can't.

WHY do MULTIPLE defenders STILL follow the player on the ball and leave the player in the middle of the pitch making a run at the box ALL alone? This was a huge bug in pes2008 and , like they didnt give a shit, its still there in 20009? Why? Do people not test this game? This is completely unacceptable.

WHY do defenders turn around 360 while runnning back if there is a chipped through pass over their heads? Why cant they just run straight and catch up to the ball? Its so simple and yet so many goals get conceeded because the defender starts runnning , turns around mid run , by the time he goes back on track the striker beat him to the ball and hes on a breakaway. I mean these little things ruin the game, simply ruin it !

Well said. On another note, they completely COMPLETELY destroyed the tricks system. Who the hell wants to use the D-Pad to do tricks, and move at the same time. I have no idea which imbecile decided to implement that feature.
 
I can see PES going better and better.
Well, to be honest, you all talk about bugs and bugs but no one say that the game is increasing in tons of topics. There are always great developments between the last and the new version. The graphic is better, the engine is better, the look style is better.
For me, it just increases.
 
Yep thats what these forums are about. Improving gameplay, stats, appearance of every conceivable graphic area of the game.
 
I will add more to the original post but here I wanna say that I never mentioned that it was getting worse in graphics and engine and physics and all that , i was mentioning strict gameplay situations, which are down to sheer programming and maybe a bit of modelling that are simply too important to be missed out and yet they have been missed out time and again
 
HOW do people can make a realistic, perfect, excellent game, if themselves aren't excellent. It's impossible, you can make it as good as you can, but if you aren't perfect, you can't do better game and you can want it like no other. Your work is a legacy to you, how good you are, the good is your work, your game!

And I agree, why do you always look for bugs? PES looks more realistic and still PES is gets better! Only perfect people can make a perfect game, and if there's no perfect person out there, there couldn't be better game... Try to do something better, if you don't like it! :CONFUSE:

100% agreed!!! Instead of making new faces they should concentrate on gameplay!

You're right on every point there, yet I'd like to add weird ball physics (ball feels somehow too heavy), worse than idiotic goalkeepers, fact that ball deflects from GK straight to forwards each and every time, completely same Master League than few years back (!!!), primitive penalty kick system (it should be at least same than at free kicks), idiotic system while doing throw ins (why shouldn't you move the player who'll receive the ball instead?), ruined quick free kicks... Also, why game restarts and every defener is on his position when doing throw in? Why isn't there a quick throw in?

There are million other points to be discussed yet there are some who feel PES 2009 is the best cause it has new faces, graphics and few new tricks. :CONFUSE:

PES 3 was promising and still the best, 4 a bit weird and 5 still good yet had serious flaws for its time. Then it went only downhill... Will there ever be a good old, best of the best PES again?
 
The gameplay of Konami since ISS deluxe is great, and continue in similar way till pes 6, then pes 2008 and pes 2009 changed and to me is worst, in fact ISS Pro Evolution 2 for PlayStation 1 gameplay to me is better than pes 2009, is the feeling to be really playing football, and to me graphics arent all, to me more important is the sensation or feeling to be playing like a real game of football and till PES 6 Konami made it, then improve graphics but gameplay went to trash.

Hope Konami back to the old gameplay that was the best.

also very legit points...the goalkeepers are still very flawed and for what reason? they make the game every year for the past 4 years for pc and yet they do nothing to IMPROVE goalkeeper movements and decisions...
WHY is it that in both 2008 and 2009 pes you can take a shot from an angle inside the penalty area and it will almost always deflect off the keeper and onto the path of another striker for an empty net? this is something that you would expect from fifa not pes...hasn't pes always been about very unique situations and never repetitive goals and exploitation of game mechanics?
Why can't you play the ball quickly ALL the time when your keeper catches it? theres no reason to forbid this...why can't you take EVERY free kick quickly? even if the ball rolls out of place from the spot of free kick, the player should just pick it up and bring it back and play it quick ...

On the note of Konami not being perfect so they can't make a perfect game....I wasn't saying that the game should be perfect, but the things I have pointed out have nothing to do with perfection. They are a matter of QUALITY of product. Such careless design and development of the game can't be excused, they are things that must be addressed and konami's shitty sales are warranted completely and resulted by the shitty product they put out. Quality never lies and if they pulled their heads out of their marketing asses and continued doing their own thing instead of trying to copy fifa's tactics in the market they wouldn't have wasted the last 2 years going backwards and would today be sitting on top of the market for football gaming pissing on the competitor's heads.

Konami you MUST get the little things right first...Stop wasting time on faces, boots, shorts, sponsors, licenses, because none of it matters to the majority of your customers. Those customers who rely on such things have always and will always be fifa customers. Don't make new passing systems, dribbling systems, animations...fix the little things first...the simple things first...make the game work and make it work well and THEN add on, because as it stands its turning into a game with no character and silly bugs, kinda like fifa has been for the last 10 years

Dont get me wrong, I still play pes with my buddies almost daily but I just can't ignore the subtle letdown from last year till this year...it needs to be done right and someone had to say it
 
Pes for me died this year. Loved it since the ISS days but now have hardly played it. Play FIFA nearly all the time, and even tho that is far from perfect it beats PES by quite a bit.
 
Pes has been so damn good for ages it just had to happen one day.

That said I put the blame firmly at the lead programmers feet because at the end of the day it all comes down to him.

The offline play of pes 2009 is better than Fifa09 let us not forget that.

It's just the online that is messed up.

One problem is that we all still buy them ! I bought pes2009 as I got misinformation about the online we were told 2v2 is back and it barely had any lag and much better than pes2008 etc.

As we all know all that turned out to be bollocks.

There are 3 golden rules konami must now follow

It has to have

#1 online play as decent as pes6
#2 Lobbys like pes6 where you can chat and so forth
#3 Groups online

Using Jay's example:

PES3 - Fantastic - where it all started for me.
PES 4 - UP
PES 5 - UP
PES 6 - SAME LEVEL (marginal differences)
PES 2008 - WAYYYYYY DOWN
PES 2009 - Slight improvement but still below PES3 which is unforgivable for a game entitled Pro Evolution Soccer
 
Personally:

PES3 - Amazing
PES4 - Down (mainly because the shooting and editing was worse than PES3)
PES5 - UP UP UP UP (best game of the series)
PES6 - Down marginally (still good, just not as good as PES5)
PES2008 - DOWN (The worst game they've ever released)
PES2009 - Up slightly, but still not good.
 
I think PES 2009 rocks this year, except for the right analog trigger that no longer works as the trickeries.

Online isn't very stable no tournamnets and no 360 directional movement, sadly.:SHOCK:
 
PES2009 may be crap but I've got WE2009 and it's really rather good. Hardly any lag and feels better than Fifa. Although typed chat and tricks not on the d-pad would help! Much improved over 2008 though, which was awful.
 
Ive loved this game for years but im getting pretty anoyed with this now! I can handle the players names not being right and even the kits and stuff but when i play online the ball disapears? and the saving time in the game is stupid!
 
Im just saying the simple things for pes should not be flawed...once they get down that road again it will be a marvelous pes
 
And what about implementing official Champions League to Master League? And BAL mode? What the fook? Am I supposed to play basic rounds and eliminary rounds 'till semi-finals under sunshine?

In BAL mode obviously doesn't work KONAMI's TeamVision, or why am I allowed to score every game hattrick?? (Top Player:) If TeamVision failed, I know what's gonna happen next: PlayerVision. And those little fook ups will survive through to PES 2010. And of course KONAMI will improve graphics and faces, as someone said here before. Those guys just want to be rich. No love and passion for football anymore. <- That is mine vision.
 
There must be something wrong with the quality management at Konami´s. Besides the gameplay issues and bugs mentionend above there´s a lack of product polish which shows Konami has lost its focus on delivering a fully completed game.

The first time I played the Champions League during BAL mode, I read : "Next match - Chmapions League"!!! I couldn´t believe what I was reading.

The german translation is full of mistakes. How can that slip through quality survey? Did some japanese studying German for 6 months do the translation or was it Seabass´s kid asking: "Oooh, daddy, can I do the german translation, please?"

Summing up the flaws and faults of PES2009 for me will always be "Chmapions League"!
 
If they hired me to overlook the development of the next pes series, I would produce the best soccer game ever to come out. They got no beta testing whatsoever because if they did, these stupid bugs wouldn't exist. The simple fact is they dont give a shit anymore they just want money like fifa and they started doing the same shit as fifa...huge marketing, commercials, stupid features that sell the game like BAL, which was a complete disaster of a mode. Master League? are you kidding me? They dont change ANYTHING about it? After 3rd season of Master League you might as well quit because it gets so fucking easy to win every match. Theres no failing in master league, why is that? Why can't your team detoriorate like most teams do eventually? Why can you win everything for like 3 seasons in a row? 2 is understandable but 3, 4, 5 seasons in a row to win everything? Wheres the fun Konami?
I can go on and on right now but I'll save it for another day to add to this post
 
Quit my fanatic since PES 2008. Let's wait 2010, won't buy PES anymore if Konami still fool me and let it die if Konami want lol.
 
people, don´t get mad about it, do like I do, play Pes6 (or any football game that you like most) like I do, I recently played in my PC the old Actua Soccer 3 and fifa98 and I've fun like hell, but I love most Pes6, and what hurts me a more is the price of the games that don't worth that much, last year, pes2008 was released in portugal (my country) costing 60€, 2 months later was 30€ (because was so dam good LOL), but that's why the demos are usefull, but for me the demos are almost diferent then the game in the end, and most of all look better then the final game too LOL
