Why do I really dislike PES 4 & WE8 but really like WE8LE?!

I really don't feel a massive difference in gameplay yet I get annoyed with PES4 & WE8 but have an enjoyable time playing WE8LE. I know the gameplay got tweaked in WE8LE but didn't expect such a different feeling when playing this version. I've played every winning eleven and PES game they've ever made but avoided WE8LE like the plague because of my bad memory of PES 4. Really glad I gave WE8LE a go, it's fun!

Apologies I meant to say WE8LE not WE8i. I'll edit that...

@XrainX is it based on WE8 or WE8LE? I really don't like the gameplay of WE8.

WE8JL is definitely not WE8 Smooth, the gameplay has been refined as well as the animations. Considering the technical limitations of the time it remains a gem from the gameplay point of view (very balanced). It did not have much success because shortly after the Liveware evolution came out which also implemented online. To this day nothing amuses me as much as WE8JL.

I'll find an English patch and give it a try. I'll be playing an unaltered version though if I play it because some of these patches alter the gameplay entirely so it ends up not actually being the same game. Anyway I have enjoyed WE8LE so if it's like that then I'll probably like it. If it's like PES 4 / WE8 then I won't 😄

WE8LE is the biggest Liveware Evolution or Final Evolution update in the series. It completely changed PES4 for me back in the day from a meh version into one of the best releases in the series. It’s in my personal top 3.

I think the gameplay of WE4LE is closer to PES 5 (minus the shooting system) than it is to PES 4.

Yeah I can see where you’re coming from. When it originally released it was often referred to as PES 4.5. I still remember getting my brand new import copy from CeX for £54.99. I then patched it with the amazing Team Reefur 2005-2006 patch. It was the first PES/WE title I ever applied a patch to.
