PES5 all the way!

Agreed.

Decent amount of licensing, and a brilliant edit mode meant you could make the kits properly and have proper leagues.

And the gameplay was the best. Solid passing, good shooting and decent overall speed meant it was fun whilst being a good representation of football.

Only gripes would be the referees being incredibly strict.

PES3 is a close second.

PES5 for me. The most complete PES of them all, an all-round solid title that was good in all departments, plus it had a great editor. Didn't matter to me though as I patched this game to within an inch of it's life.

PES 5, although I'd prefer a few less fouls and the overhead system from PES 6 to be transplanted in. Overheads are broken in PES 5. Totally broken.

Less fouls - Don't hold X all the time, only when you are in reach of the ball. Also, using super cancel to push players off the ball is often better than using X anyway as most of the time it isn't a foul. I used to think there were too many fouls in PES5, but when I play it now I have started to be more careful as to when to use X to tackle and when to stand off them and when to use super cancel, and now the amount of fouls seems quite realistic, both for and against me. I thought that there were nowhere near enough fouls in PES6 though.

About overheads - Me and my mate scored one yesterday on an ML and another 2 one day last week on the same ML... They are hard to do, but I find then fine, if the ball is in the right position for an overhead and you time it right then they attempt one if the player has the required attributes.

PES5 is still a great game :)) Every goal is different, even after about 3 years of having the game.

All pes series where crap playing against COM. After playing the third match it starts getting booring, really booring (and easy).
PES5 was great except for the fact that you could catch the ball with any player and go all around the pitch without any rival being able to take the ball from you, even when your player has no skills at all.
PES6 seems the most solid game of the series to me. I only play against my friends and when you understand how to play it, matches are really equilibrated despite some minor bugs in defense.
Besides, I play it on a 20" monitor, with full detail and full-patched...beautiful :applaud:

soon, a mod should add pes 2009, or make a new poll. Its nice to know the preferences of the lads here.

i should have added it before

PES 5 for me as it is the most fun and balanced play i have had in a PES game. Still play it now, although now moved to PC.

PES 6 was the best online had snow, rain, online tournaments, very smooth no lag. Never played pes 5. But I played PES 6, PES 2008 and now PES 2009. PES 6 was the best online experience!

PES5. Played it again recently and it is so much nicer to play. Players move around fluidly, not stilted like PES6. Defending is not broken, and the ball is really loose at the feet, which i believe resemble real life. I've just acquired WE9:LE, which is the Korean tweaked version of PES5/WE9. Apparently it is even better. I hope so, and that less fouls are called :) I'm surprised so many people prefer PES6 over 5. I think it might be because 6 allows you to play slightly more fantastical football, in terms of longer-range shots etc. In 5 you had to pass it around more, which I think is more real.

Oh, also, PES5 was the last game to feature the weird 'anywhere-cross', where you held down L1 and pressed Circle 1, 2 or 3 times and a lush route-one ball is put in near the edge of the box. Pretty unpredictable, but when you get on the end and hammer it, it feels great.

It is truly upsetting when you play PES2009 after 5. Like others have said, it is unknown to me why it is not possible to literally carbon copy the gameplay of last gen. to current gen.. I am a software developer (not games) and I don't see what the problem is. I assume it must exist though, as the small team is obviously not stupid. After all, it did give us the greatest football game/sim of all time: PES5 :)

For me it's the winning eleven games over the pes series. But I voted for pes 5, for all the reasons that other people already stated.
I mostly play on pes 6 and that game is just so redicously scripted, it makes me wanna puke. It's like seabass telling you to either play exactly as he wants you to play, or you will get f*cked up the ass. It's a game for masochists and I am tired of playing it. Sadly there's nothing better to play, at least not online, so I just keep playing it. Damn them and their superiority attitude towards the rest of the planet. It's like seabass got so sick of the complaints about the ref being too strict in pes 5 that he decided to get us all back for it.
And why can't ea make a footy game that's fun to play so I can stop buying konami products altogether?

After play long hours with PES 2009(very poor game of football compared with pes 6,5,4), defintely the best are PES 6, 5 & 4, Konami just should release a PES 6 or 5 with hundreds of teams and leagues, Become a legend option, and all teams with chants and anything to edit, Konami just make the base, the fans and editors do the rest. PES 6 still the best of the serie by far.
