Apart from your club's stadium, which is your favourite football stadium in the world & why?

Please post a photo of it with your response. :)

Ataturk Olympic Stadium

Reason - 25 May, 2005. I was there, and it was the greatest night of my life.

SIGNAL IDUNA PARK

BY FAR. ITS Old School, yet modern, close to the pitch yet holds 70oddK. Has all standing areas! and is the most atmospheric stadium in Europe IMO.

Hopefully the new KOP at the New Anfield will look as intimidating as this

Camp Nou of course

I'll second the Nou Camp. I had the best two days of my life in Barcelona back in '99. VERY fond memories. :)

Peter - I've always had a soft spot for Dortmund and that stadium too mate. Nice choice. :)

Spot on Peter.

Hoping West Ham's proposed new ground is something similar to Dortmund's and not one of these Madjeski/Pride Park/Ricoh Arena flat pack soulless dives..

As for that 'sudtribuhne' behind the goal, it's fucking amazing!

I'll go with Dortmund as well, amazing atmosphere. Veltins Arena is quite amazing, too, but the movable pitch made it necessary to leave bigger spaces to the ranks, so it can't quite compare to "signal.iduna"-park.

Hopefully the team will reach former glory again one day. The fans and the stadium sure are Champions league worthy.

Braga Stadium
It has several architectural awards.
The images are nothing special... A person has to be there to real feel that special place. It's not an average stadium it's much more then that it's a monument.

"The stadium was carved off a quarry (Monte Castro) that overlooks the city of Braga. Stands run only along both sides of the pitch. Behind the goal at one end are the rock walls of the quarry and at the other is an open view over the city sprawling in the distance. Each stand is covered with a canopy-style roof, and both are connected to each other across the pitch by dozens of steel strings, a design inspired by ancient South American Inca bridges."

I remember that stadium from Euro 2004. It looks......dangerous! ;)

:)

I've never liked Braga.

Sure the place is unique in its surroundings, but the stands themselves are very average to look at. The atmospheres also gotta be harmed by the fact its open at both ends of the pitch. Not to mention they probably get around 3 fans turning up for each game.

I think Santiago Bernabeu and San Siro are worth mentioning in this thread...

If I am not mistaken,Barcelona is supposed to do some major renovating works on the Nou Camp...it is a very old stadium standing on creaky pilings...

MSTOCKPORT_new.jpg

Edgeley Park, Stockport.
I spent many Friday nights here when I was a kid watching County lose every week. When I couldn't afford to pay to get in, I would wait in the car park at the side for a ball to fly out of the ground then grab it and run. I managed 3 or 4 over a couple of years and sold them at school. In later years it was a cheaper alternative when I couldn't afford or get tickets for Manchester United anymore.

was just kidding, its not that bad ihave to admit; from what i have heard last night in the uefa cup (first 20 mins anyway)

but imo it doesnt look good. from the outside at least, i mean come on that thing looks like a rubber dinghy

however, wasnt it bayerns own fans who complained cause of the lack of passion, being too quiet and also having too many fashion fans in the arena?

also, wasnt even mentioning the volksparkstadion

Is Veltins arena the Schalke stadium? I think its technically the best football stadium. Its very enclosed and very organized, so the fans are very close to the pitch. Stadiums like Olimpico, Wembley and Emirates are beautiful but seem to be a little stretched out so the fans arent exacly that close to the pitch.
