Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/04/07)

I know it's only a screenshot, but look at the gap the guy with the ball has. That's what I hate about PES6. Defenders go wondering about. Left back has his hands down. He's not interested. Left-centre back doesn't even know where the ball is.

They really messed up the positoning and advancing of defenders in PES6. Hope they sort it out. Don't look good from that screenshot.

That's a very important note. Very, very disturbing. Give me a chance like this and you got me a top corner goal screamer...

There's nothing worse than a goal you shouldn't have scored in real life.

^Possible Early Proto mate. Wouldnt read too much into it.

There is a guy behind him.
Look at the shadow behind that square.

Again though, DJ, if they've been working on this amazing AI system for 18 months, you should be noticing it in these screenshots. Yes, you can't judge animations and the like from static images, but if the positioning is all wrong then it will be all wrong whether it's a screenshot, a video or whether it's on your TV screen with you playing it.

What worries me the most is that those teams, PES United and WE United, are always filled with superstar players. And if their defenders are giving you that much room..........

Now the version my contact played may well have been an earlier beta, but then these screenshotted versions are pretty recent and they seem to be displaying similar things to what he was complaining about (brilliant player likenesses mixed up with stupidly plain cartoony ones - compare the Cristiano Ronaldo shot from a few weeks ago to the new random-guy-in-training shot - and "trying to copy FIFA", which may have been referring to the traditional view of FIFA which is ten goals a game, tons of long-distance goals due to that player positioning you see there).

You have every right to look forward to it etc., and I understand that people will argue a lot of this is speculation. But looking at the stuff that's coming out from Konami - pub screenshots and screens featuring disgraceful defending positions - I believe that he's right and that it's going to be a disappointment. It all depends on what Konami announces next, for me. If it's something that matters, ML talk, or an explanation as to why those defenders are running out of the guy in possession's way, great, and I look forward to more info from them. But I've got a horrible feeling it's going to be some kind of gimmick. I'm half-expecting "your players have to drink at regular intervals" or "you can kick rowdy fans out of the pub".

EDIT: Sorry to be a miserable bastard, but I've just read this on PESFan - includes an excerpt from GamesMaster magazine.

They basically show the screenshots we've all seen, and tell us what we all know (teamvision etc...) but they write this:

"...it looks a bit like the last one on Xbox 360 and will have to go some way to match FIFA 08"

That could be aimed at the graphics, but you'd think they would specify that if that was the case, and a magazine like GamesMaster would surely be able to grab a beta and have a play with it. And in response to a few "they must be paid by EA" or "they must love FIFA" posts, someone else posted this, which is very interesting:

For as long as ive known GM has slated Fifa and usually cant stress enough how PES is better then it.

You guys don't understand. This is no game in action. Look, where are the player-pointers? Nowhere! Normally if you go to the in-game menu, you still see the pointer, isn't it?
Maybe this is CPU vs CPU on the lowest level :)

Woah, stinks of desperation in here. ;) :mryellow:

Sorry, don't listen to me, just joking. I'll get back to work now before the "you're just a manic depressive, take some pills and stop dissing our game" brigade come out.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

LOL, they were about on their way
I was more interested in your opinion on my comments about the pointers.
Strange, don't you think?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

From what I see in the screenshot, maybe Konami have implemented Kack's first entry on his wish list...

...and the player behind the bench image is the human player, hence no player arrow on the screen...

Now THIS is desperation... :lmao:

EDIT: Look at the radar - a player is selected. One of the first blue-team defenders has a ring around him. I should have noticed that by now, God I'm slow this afternoon. :mryellow:

The pause menu also says "change player" etc. so obviously someone has control of a team, and there's nobody controlling the opposition team (again, look at the radar) so obviously they're AI positioned.

There's lots of things it could be, of course. It could be an early version where they are playing around with the defensive AI. So of course, you can be optimistic, and I don't blame you for being so.

But I just know how the chain of Pro Evos has been for the last few years (i.e. not very different from the last), and I base my personal prediction on that (and what my contact has told me, of course). That doesn't mean I'm right, we won't know that until the magazines are allowed to say more than they are currently (or until you have it in your hands, if you don't trust the magazines).

hi ppl! i'm 33 years old and a huge fan of the "we" series and i must confess that the gameplay of this game has continuously decreased. i really think konami has passed the last few years sleeping under the shade because the other games available are even poorer! it is amazing tha a game with 11 years like fifa hasn't been able to even get close to "we" or "pes". i have a xbox 360 and a top pc and apart from gears of war and g.r.a.w. 1 & 2, i've yet failed to see a next-gen true game. i really think that we deserve much more and much better!!! and i hope that konami is able to provide that next-gen feeling to all of us who are big fans. cheers to all.

one thing I noticed... where are the four small dots next to the namebar on the CVG screenshot? we can defintely see them on the sreenshot from Konami

IMO the shots are from different versions.. maybe PS3/360 or differnt beta versions

Hey, good spot! I don't think they're different-looking because they're from different consoles - the PS3 and 360 both have buttons in a diamond-shape like that, so it would apply for both. But it would seem to indicate that the versions are different. But saying that, the differences between the two could just be graphical tweaks, so... Argh. I hate not having concrete information.

even the design of the two namebars look different

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

The namebars etc. are most definitely different, but as I just said, that could be down to a graphical tweak rather than an entirely different version. Who knows. Nobody but Konami, unfortunately.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

Is this video all we re gonna have today :-)))) ?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

the defenders are backing off because the game is probably on easy setting.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

I dont reckon its on easy setting!

I believe in that screen, its not the computer at all, its the computer attacking the human defence! So hence that would sort the AI out, why do I think this though, I dont think thething above players heads remain when paused but I have one idea that could prove me right, and Ill tell you, LOOK AT THE RADAR!

What about it you think, well we all know the blue circles are the blue team, red are the red team! The ball is the white circle with the 4 arrow things on it look left to that, and you will see the blue circle which is highlighted by blue again, and I believe that means that is the selected human player of that colour, I may be wrong but I believe thats right, why else would it be? Not the player on the ball or the one reciving. The defense is probably awful cause the player ran defenders out, or tactics are crap!

Also the guy who said about the gloves, I commented before about them, obviously early build, as they are crap lol what the hell are they, not even if they make em sondico, or adidas, they still aint the right shape, and the net is awful, so more reasons why I believe its beta screens. Meh! I still just want to see it in motion, more than most play it, what happened to the demos they had, to get into the uk national tournies etc, like they did with PES3 etc!

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

LOOK AT THE RADAR!
Only 40-odd minutes after I'd pointed it out. ;)

Seriously though, you can position one player badly but then when you switch to the next the player goes back to his "proper" position. But, again, nothing's concrete so there's a lot of different opinions.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

LOL Sorry mate, I still didnt read it haha, but it depends how fast they attack, pull a CB put too far, to the square say, and other players are marking, fast attacker can get to there fast enough, maybe its 3 at back, who knows, all speculation!

so where is the player cursor?

sure it's not cpu v cpu?

Knowing PES, the player was probably frantically clicking to switch between players but the game kept giving him control of guys on the half-way line, nowhere near the action, off-screen probably.

As for the defenders being so badly out of place, that is probably because they are the defnders on the human players team. If it was the cpu team defending, there would be 8 of it's players crammed into it's own box as per usual, with the other 2 outfield players chasing at 99 speed after the ball. Don't forget, TeamVision is to help the cpu team, not your team.

So far, this game really looks pants.

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

Player cursor dissapears when you pause doesnt it, I dunno I cant remember, dont pause much playing, but the highlight on the radar is quite a give away, thats why I said. Im pretty sure its not cpu vs cpu, why wud it be highlighted?

Re: WE/PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread (Last Update 07/05/07)

About the different versions, I think the ones from konami are xbox360 version and the ones from CVG ps3. The reason y i think this may not be very convincing but I think the first picture looks a little darker than the second. Now go look at some Xbox vs ps3 comparisons on gametrailers and you'll notice that on every game the image is much brighter on the ps3.
