Re: PES 2008 Next Gen - News/Discussions Official Thread
The faces look better in these new shots, admittedly, but if the 360 version was patchable we could have done that ourselves. Yes, you can see the muscles now, but that's just an effect on the shirt - that could be done in a patch as well, for God's sake. A post has already been made in this thread that matches up with what I'm saying; see
HERE.
The lighting is better, great, but if it took them 18 months to do that then it's going to be 18 years before they catch up to FIFA's graphics. I don't agree with the "it will look amazing in motion" stuff either - fair enough, some of the animations could be motion-captured and totally realistic, but if they come from characters looking like that, it's still going to look like a realistic cartoon. Bit of a contradiction that. And as for "they're teaser shots, they'll look better by the final release" - why would you release shots you're not happy with? To shut up a community that you have no idea even exists? Come on lads. They're not going to be up to FIFA's standard in three months. Be realistic.
And the Winning Eleven blog team has said that graphics are going to be the same across the 360/PS3/PC(!) versions, so there you go. Sorry but next to the other 360/PS3 games (and Crysis on PC) it just looks ludicrously bad.
This isn't meant to be negativity and nothing else; I'm just giving my opinion, and I don't think it's right that Konami are doing this. If it ignites a discussion then great.
Genuine question (again, I would like to see this discussed): Of course, gameplay is more important than graphics, so you can dismiss all of the above if you want. But tell me, seriously, is it wrong to want, or even expect, a lot better graphics along with a lot better gameplay? Why is it so terrible to expect both in an age where most of the hardware developments are graphics-related? It's almost as if you're made to feel ashamed for wanting the graphics to match up to the other next-gen graphics out there.
