The movement off the ball and triangulating around the passer of the ball a hallmark of Pekerman's side is completely missing.
Messi is not an enganche he needs targets to aim at running around him and receiving from.
There is no central playmaker .No out and out striker. No team can suceed without one of those.
The defence is awfully slow and immobile.
For a team blessed with some of the best ball controllers and passers it was a horrifying display of giving the ball away and being unable to pass to a teammate.
I've never seen it so bad as it was in that second half.
The talent pool is there but it is not selected. When you consider the players not being selected the mind boggles.
Ecuador had a plan and system and deserved to win yet they are hardly world beaters .The players in that second half for Argentina had no idea what to do no doubt as a result of another 'inspiring' Diego teamtalk.
Great players seldom make great managers and this is a case in point.
The likes of Heinze ,Jonas , even Gago who has been very ordinary this season should be nowhere near a national selection not forgetting Papa,Diaz etc etc when the likes of Higuain, Cavenaghi, Zarate , Lavezzi , Gonzalo, Pareja , Garay ,Fazio and even kids like Perotti, de Federico and Pastore have been tearing it up in their respective leagues.
No Ledesma of Lazio but Battaglia ? He was shown up as disinctly inferior to the absent Masche. Hell where was Cuchu who had a great season with Inter ? Or Ansaldi at left back over the clown Heinze (captain no less being Diegos friend).
Abysmal and shocking and horrifying to the loyal band of fans globally .
