UFC Undisputed 2010 and EA's MMA

I did not notice any created fighters i downloaded in my first career which was annoying.

Strange i started a new career with created Brock Lesnar and ground and clinch already 80. ?

10-0 with created Brock Lesnar in career on Hard all but one of my fights i have won by KO. :))

Thought in Brazil this time after getting out first league the fights have 20 min time limit makes for entertaining fights depending on who you face. Had one epic fight in this so far that went on for ages back and fourth ground battle then had abit of stand up and managed to pull combo knockdown and TKO on ground felt so good.

I had quite a few fights against a mate on this last night and we had some very good battles and i can play the game alot better now

He liked taking it to the ground going for subs so everything defence wise clicked and when he did get me in a sub i learnt how to defend them properly as well

Playing as heavyweights is a nightmare though, they throw bombs and no fight went out of the first 2 minutes

The ground game is superb on this. None of the shining nonsense, but the tactics come into it a lot more when you're deciding whether to pass or wait for the vibrate and the CPU trying to move as well.

Not a big fan of the "zone" submissions though, I can't really figure them out.

8-0 in my career, only on medium level though. Had a struggle in my last fight and the CPU had me rocked twice with punches, so even though kickboxing is my main strength, I had to work on taking him down. Ground for me is only about 66 (compared to 75 for standing) and subs are 34, but I've learnt some subs like the armbar and they've done well for me. Ended up winning the last fight with an armbar and a huge sigh of relief :D

12-2 in career now lost my first fight in strikeforce :( made stupid mistake got rocked but didnt clinch or go for takedown then got hit again fell to ground and got battered.

One thing i dont like with career compared to UFC is that you could pick fights in UFC your only given one choice in this.

Not a big fan of the "zone" submissions though, I can't really figure them out.

Just move around very slowly till you feel a vibrate then you just move left or right a little to find it again when you lose it

I just learnt how to do a spinning back kick but its very very slow on my guy and they can see it coming a mile off

I might start a new career as a BJJ guy so i can learn different subs

Scrap that idea on how to do chokes as i am useless at them

I was 5-0 in my career and a guy chocke me easilly so i went into training with 7 weeks, did 7 choke trainings and never even got close to submitting him

This is how your supposed to do it but i aint tried it

I'm 14-0 with the excellent Fighter Share Wanderlei Silva

I've absolutely dominated, won the Brazilian Vale Tudo League belt, and am now nailing it in Mystic (Pride/Dream)

Big fan of the submissions, i was getting pounded by a dude in Brazil, kept nailnig me, then all of a sudden, armbar from the bottom, and he taps.

I can get joint submissions pretty easily and it is very sweet going from a failed triangle straight into a armbar :)

Chokes are very hit and miss for me though, going into Choke A training shows you how the "sweet spot" works but even knowing that is still very hard to catch it. Once i lose the spot i cant get it back again and they seem to keep hold of the spot meaning they get out every time

I need some tips

Oh and im in Strikeforce now (didn't realise Mystic was Pride when i signed) and my record is 11 and 1 or something like that with nearly all of my wins by submission. When i finish this career im gonna make a brawler with good take down defence so i can be a KO specialist :)

Might as well go back to UFC

EA is likely to back out of the mixed martial arts genre after its debut offering, EA Sports MMA, made a poor start at retail.

That's according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, who thinks UFC Undisputed maker THQ may have scored a knockout blow in the MMA battle between the publishers.

"EA's recently released 'MMA' appears to be more or less DOA at retail, while UFC recently announced an extension of its license with THQ, likely putting an end to EA's efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre," the analyst said in a research note this morning.

THQ said last week that it is to "broaden the UFC brand experience" after extending its exclusive publishing deal with game rights holder Zuffa until 2018.

We were largely impressed with EA Sports MMA, awarding the game 8.3 in our review, but noting that it couldn't quite match up to UFC.

While Creutz's comments regarding the game's retail performance are likely specific to the US market, EA Sports MMA made a disappointing start in the UK, debuting at No.23 this week.

Will be a shame if pull out but would not be surprised what with THQ getting new deal until 2018 that must be blow for EA they seem to like getting there rights for games.

Last UFC game was dire career was utter rubbish compared to EA MMA i hope THQ put some effort in i did read other day they are not making one every year now going to be every 2 cycles which i think good.

I hope that is true as one game every 12 months will just lead to minor improvements every year.

As for EA MMA. I can't blame EA if they drop out to be honest, they have learned just like other people that the wider scope of MMA just seems to be ignored in the west. Unless you are UFC, people just dont seem to be interested. The average UFC fan associates MMA to be UFC only!!

It is a sad state of affairs and probably will never change in the west. For EA MMA to grow it is gonna need some serious advertising/marketing to convince UFC fans but even then they may fail.

I think EA saw UFC 2010 sales and realised they were gonna be in big trouble as if THQ struggle with UFC license what chance does anyone else have?

Is Strikeforce even available on UK TV? It's things like that, other organisations trying to get onto good TV networks around the world and things would take off more. Same with Dream.

As it stands, the only MMA we get is UFC in the UK?

Need to go with Sky Sports, or a terestrial channel I think. I never think to watch Bravo, not sure I know anyone else who does either actually.

Either way though, it shows how little promotion and advertising Strikeforce gets compared to UFC over here.

Would be good if Sky Sports picked up Strikeforce and Dream. With Sky now purchasing Bravo from Virgin it is gonna be interesting to see what they do with the content as they are planning to shut down Bravo early next year.

Either they will move Strikforce to sky sports or just abandon it all together. Considering sky are now showing ultimate fighter it looks like they are looking to get involved with MMA again.

Remember though that Strikeforce has a deal on showtime and CBS and most American UFC fans still do not have any interest. Just look at the crowd reaction for Jake Shields at the last UFC PPV. He left strikeforce as a champion and 95% of the UFC crowd had no idea who he was.

Hey lads... maybe someone could help me out with my questions about EA MMA. Is it possible to fight for or defend a championship belt in the exhibition mode? Also is it possible to tweak stats of the normal roster? Last but not least... can we watch/sim fights between the CPU?

THQ said:
UFC Trainer is an upcoming fighting and fitness video game created by THQ that is set to be released on January 1, 2011. The game is a sequel to the UFC Undisputed series but will differ from it in its playability in that it will require the Kinect accessory for the Xbox 360 version and the Playstation Move for the Playstation 3 version. There will also be a Wii version that won't require any accessories to play.

THQ's executive Vice President Danny Bilson stated that it will be "the coolest fighting thing in the world"

Sounds quite good...

Ordered EA MMA for £14 off play. Should be here tomorrow. I really hated the striking on the demo but I've been fancying a mma game for a bit and I've done the ufc games to death. Hopefully it's not a complete waste of money but I don't remember anyone from here buying it in the end. we all seemed to try the demo and then the thread died.

Did anyone pick it up?

I did.

Overall it was an OK game, just didn't seem to have the same depth of fighting or excitement as UFC and I found it too easy against the AI on the ground. The striking was also annoying, very weak and the hit detection physics were poor. The loading times were also ridiculous.

The career mode was pretty decent though in particular the training - which actually matters unlike in UFC. Worth checking out for the challenges as well. Also, there's a lot of fighters to get to grips with and they are quite individual.
