no statement out yet that his career is over, i sure hope not:(

greatest striker ever cant end his career like this:(

Re: "Tribute to Ronaldo" knee injury, career over...

I'd wait him, no matter how long it takes. even if that day he'll play only for 10 minutes.. even if only to say goodbye to the audience, but I'd wait him..

get well soon, Ronie!!

Re: "Tribute to Ronaldo" knee injury, career over...

If true, I am absolutely gutted.

Breathtaking player at his best and even now, still sheer class.
A true gent too who had a sense of humour.

Even nowadays, if I HAD to have any player in the world in a 1 on 1 situation for my team.... it would still be him.

I really hope this isn't the end for him.:(:(

Re: "Tribute to Ronaldo" knee injury, career over...

no striker could come close to him when he was on his prime

although i think he's used to this type of injury and he might return soon...

It has been said that it would be career ending if he were to injure his left knee again.Looks like this is sad but true.I would resign to this if I were him.Injuries are part and parcel of the game and to end an illustrious career because of it is,justifiable.Great player he is,one for the history books.

For me, the 3 best strikers of the past 20 years are van Basten, Ronaldo and Romario.

2 of them have to retire at 31...

Not right at all! :(

He officially retired in 95, though I think his last game was 93 wasn't it?

Either way, it's still far too young.

Definetly the best CF ever when he was in his prime he was on another level, i doubt I'll see a better player in my time than him when he was in his prime..

what a sad news:(:( i don't think we'll see again a CF of his class, the better striker i've never seen, really sad

Terrible news, hopefully people wont use this to 'crap on him'.

He is the best striker of his generation period.

:(

I remember the goal he scored for Barca at the Camp Nou where he split the 2 defenders...

Fucking hell he's not dead, reading some of the comments you'd think he had snuffed it.

So he MAY have to retire? At least he can look back upon a great career...

He may recover, but it's gonna take a hell of a long time..Hope he makes it though...Not my fav player but still an asset (even out of shape) for the football world

On his prime, the best striker I've ever seen.

You must be very, very, very young.

He wasn't even the best Brazilian striker...far from...

Better strikers:

Gerd Muller
Eusebio
Just Fontaine
Van Basten
Rensenbrink
Lineker
Papin
Romario
Tostao
Riva
Rossi
Lubanski
Lato
Szarmach
Garrincha
Van Nistelrooy
Rush
Dalglish
Stoichov
Batistuta
Kempes
Omar Sivori
Butraguenio
Raoul
Henry
Eto'o

My thoughts exactly! Also, he should leave the pies alone, he isn't half the player he used to be.

Best striker ever? Hmm...that's debatable. Players like Van Nistelrooy, Romario, Batistuta and Eusebio would have something to say about that.

EDIT: Just seen Gerd's list, we think alike!

Yep, when he got a full game with Milan his sprints were still quick and he still had his technique and composure. He only played about 3 games but has 2 goals already. Last year he had I think 8 goals in 11 matches.

Besides, how old are you to have see half of those player??!

You must be AT LEAST 60-65 to have seen Garrincha (the winger  ) play for Brazil?!
