He managed a smile as he added: “I would be gutted if my missus went to Spain to meet someone else and I saw pictures of her in the papers. But I know she’d come back to me, as she can speak French, Dutch and English but not Spanish. So she could not talk to the bugger!”
The Ferguson argument can only be used so long, he had won trophies before Manchester United and they obviously trusted him to build a winning team.
.
We have had some tough fixtures, Arsenal and Man U, but Bolton in their current state was a must win game for us, having already lost to Sunderland and drawn with Fulham away, as well as losing at home to Everton.
.
Its not just the results, its Jol's team selections and subsitution decisions during games that are costing us points. If you're not a Spurs fan you wouldn't be following it as closly as those of us who are, and we can all see the same mistakes being made that have cost us points in years gone by.
.
I feel Jol has taken us as far as he possibly can and it is time to get a truly world class manager to come in and take us to the next level.
I was saying that just because Ferguson suddenly turned it round, it doesn't mean that Jol is going to. I keep hearing this banded about, but Levy clearly doesn't believe Jol is the man to take the club forward, hence the searching for replacements. You also have to remember that this is a very different era in football than the late-eighties/early-nineties, and having spent big this summer (and to an extent, last summer), the board expect results.
Considering the other teams Bolton have lost to, I would expect us to win there, especially considering that we thought we would be challenging for a CL place this year. I would have taken a point against Bolton under Big Sam, but in their current situation, I feel we really should be beating them.
As for Everton at home, I know that games between our sides have been pretty even over the last few seasons, but we should be getting at least a point from you at the Lane. The fact we played so poorly in that game (our first home game of the season) was more the issue though.
Did I mention Berbatov's miss against Arsenal? Or Bent's for that matter? I assume you are referring to Berba's first chance, which was far from a sitter anyway, he had to take on Toure as he was blocking the goal.
We may have missed a few chances against Arsenal, but they completly outclassed us and missed bagfulls of chances themselves. Again at home, we should have at least put up more of a fight against them.
What I was referring to was the substitutions he makes at crucial times which make the team worse. Take today, he takes off Berbatov (the focal point of our attack, and for all intents playing well) and puts on Darren Bent. From that point in the game onwards, the ball didn't stick to our strikers and we dropped 10% of possession in that time. Similarly, he took off Robbie Keane when we were leading Fulham 3-1, despite us carving Fulham apart and looking likely to get a fourth at the time.
His midfield selections have been woefully short of ideas in certain games (Sunderland and today come to mind), and he has continued to play players in positions where they are incredibly akward (Malbranque on the right wing for instance), leading to a horrible inability to keep the ball, especially away from home.
Add to this the fact that he has failed to sort out the defensive issues we've had ever since he joined the club and you should be able to see why certain sections of the support would be content to see him leave. If you've watched pretty much every single game for the last two years and seen the same issues (lack of a left midfielder, inability to defend set pieces, no midfield support for strikers in away games, terrible substitutions, naive tactics, etc), I think it would start to grate on you too.
This is not a shortterm viewpoint, I just don't see us going anywhere further with Jol in charge.
Oh dear Villa are really taking the piss, they're putting on Harewood.

Supporting Spurs ain't easy!
It all started when the board who gave him tons of £££ in the summer panicked after 2 games, they brought it upon themselves.
I'm not convinced that it was Jol's decision to spend £16.5 mill on Darren Bent though.
