They should re-structure the television rights distribution. The top teams get paid significantly more than 'smaller' teams. Same thing happens in Italy, so the big teams always earn more.

i hear you, but i do think the fans of the lower table clubs would benefit with teams that could actually compete for the CL spots... It also seems you guys are taking a very socialistic view of the owners and clubs and what they should be doing, they operate in a very capitalistic way which seems to be quite opposite of what you guys would want them to act. What do you think they should do with the extra cash? Another concept we have here is revenue sharing. All of the tv money and a % of merchandising is usually split evenely amongst the teams.... This ensures again, parity and that certain teams in smaller markets with a smaller fan base do not go bankrupt.
 
All this in the same week that a lot of Liverpool fans want to buy their club back, which is the best news i've heard this season. Being far from a Liverpool fan (i prefer Everton by far) i'm thinking of buying some shares...

This also proves the arrogance of those clubs...do they really think that the average Spanish or Italian fan is more interested in (with all respect) Derby fucking County against Manchester mighty fucking United...No, they will "explore new markets" like China and Japan and killing football in those countries...odd that nobody in this thread has considered this consequence...not only will the English fans "loose" their clubs...the English clubs will suffocate the football in the "host countries"...a new wave of colonialism...Brittania will rule the waves once again...i'm mad...very mad...sorry...

PS: i would say the same if it was about Dutch, Belgian or whatever other clubs..my reaction is not meant to be anti-English. But as much as i like English football, i would never never watch a match like that in Brussels or Antwerp.

yes exactly what i was thinking, in the NFL all teams I think get even money on the TV deal.

Maybe, but he's right.
Platini was never my favourite, but as UEFA president he's a blessing. He has a real heart for football and football fans.
Sometimes the nationalistic or chauvinistic part of the game scares me, but i do think that it is an essential part of the game.
A club has a foreign owner...no problem??? Ok (almost every big English club)
An English club frequently plays without a single Anglish or Brittish player...no problem ??? Ok (Chelsea in the past, Arsenal at the moment and i'm sure i forget other clubs)
An English club relocates...is that a problem???? What is called Manchester United or Liverpool today moves to Milton Keynes, Leicester, Swansea, Aberdeen, New York or LA...i think that last step would be a huge problem for most people...If you think this is a huge problem, well then be gratefull that Michel Platini is the president of the UEFA.
 
The day this happens is the day I stop watching top level football. I'd rarther sit in a urine stained shed in the bitter cold watching part time uni students kicking a ball about on a muddy pitch trying to pay off their student loans.

Okay, 1 extra round of fixtures isn't alot, but it will only grow from there on.

Football is about playing in your home town/city in your own stadium, in the country that your club represents.

If this plan ever goes ahead it will be a sad day for football and the leagues in their respective countries.

Leave the game as it is, it's fine - stop tampering with it.

Gerd is right - our owners don't have soul. The Glazers, Hicks and all the other wealthy tossers just don't have a clue about our history. This isn't the NFL where a New Work Giants game is held at Wembley Stadium. This is the biggest and most followed sport in the world which needs to be left alone.

Which is why I personally believe it should start being left alone with these rule changes such as more subs, goal line technology etc

It's only when a big decision goes against a bigger club that a fuss is kicked up and Sky and all the English press sensationalise things to make it seem like things are worse than they really are!
 
Looks like the US is not in favor but afraid to tell the EPL . They're hiding behind FIFA and said most likely it's a no. The amount of money they can make will make MLS be the laughing stock of sports in the US. Some say it will profit FA and deplete soccer in America.

Both South Korea and Australia have raised there concerns citing the effect it will have on their own national league.

You see the so called 'hosting' countries aren't really interested.

ummm no one is saying that. They have to abide by fifa, or face serious sanctions. One game wont do anything. There certainly not afraid of the EPL, Hell last summer there were about 5 or 6 games played between top teams and the majority sold out. It didnt but a dent in MLS. MLS already has to compete against NFL, MLB, College Football, somewhat NHL and NBA, one prem game isnt going to hurt MLS at all. NFL attendance puts the prem to shame(were a much bigger country so it makes sense, avg about 65,000 to 70,000 per game)The MLS is not yet in a position to be a money maker anyways, all of the investors understand this and are mainly investing for the growth opportunities. Here is what the pres of USSF said, and to note, he is not the president of MLS.. he is the president of the equivalent of the FA

Im not against it but it's not like after the game I can go eat some cottage pie and hang out in kensington. I think it's a crap idea as well, hopefully all the countries will reject the idea and the moneymen will have to dream up another scheme.

It's a bit like the way we're having the NFL thrust on us lately. If they want to market it to the UK why not just show the games on the BBC or something first? I don't get it. Maybe they're trying to force 'soccer' out and replace it with 'football' (where you use your hands ;)). Who knows.

espn hates soccer/football at least in america, they have little knowledge and talk out of there asses cause there scared that there precious baseball might one day have some competition in the summer

We get a weekly dosage of two games a week in the regular season of NFL live on TV(channel 5/Sky) there's a big following of NFL this side of the pond. Hosting the NFL over here is a great idea after all the sport is all about franchise.

but the franchises your speaking of hardly do as well as the original teams...
and its not like you can buy an NFL team like you can buy a mcdonalds, its not going to happen for a very long long time, the league is pretty set
im not sure how this any is different(yet you think its a great idea) besides the fact that you dont have proffesional american football teams... thats really here nor there anyways as it only would effect the host countries, i dont have a problem with NFL teams playing abroad, as i think its great to share our national pastime. BUT i do have to say, going to an NFL game lost its appeal to me years ago. i would rather watch on tv, not because of the amotsphere, but its quite commercialized in the stadium and at times can get boring with all the tv timeouts... i think thats why i love soccer/football best live and in person, always something going on... i see some peoples points, but i really dont see how this ruins the game over there... puts a sinister tint of greed on it, but if anyone is naive to think that football is not about money, then i dont know what to say. that happend along time ago, and probably nothing can change that.
 
As an american who is a fan on the premier league, I of course like it, it would save me one game where I did not have to be up at 7am on sat morning to watch! haha. But seriously, I would love to go to a game that meant something.

For you guys in England, think about the time difference thing, you would have games ALL DAY! With the different times zones, I think games would run from 9am through 9pm non-stop, thats like a perfect day for me, sports and beer all day long.

And to be honest, the game is about making money, not tradition. All teams in every sport want to make money, want to figure out ways to make more money, then figure out more ways to make more. Sure, this is a way to do that, is that so bad? The world runs on money, just how it is at the moment.
