This game never clicked for me. Maybe with improved combat it will.

Despite them sayin' they improved the combat, based on what I saw (gameranx, for example), it doesn't seem they were able to change it that much... Which is a shame, as the combat is most probably the weakest aspect in the game... What holds it together is the story, characters and, primarily, the quests... Especially the side quests. They're THAT memorable... This is a top-5 game of all time, for me.

That truly sucks... Although they will probably hotfix it sooner rather than later.

Thanks thats what I read too. Im more of a combat guy, so my plans for reinstalling and trying to get into this for the 5th time will wait.

Turned on the PS5 yesterday eager to try this remaster, quite excited.

Turns out it runs at 20fps and I can't play the game comfortably any more.

Why have they done this?

They already released one hot fix. Not sure how you are getting 20fps as it runs grand on my PS5.

Im not a big fan of the new lighting and colour palette - everything is too vibrant and saturated, but I was able to tone it all down by adjusting in game HDR. I put peak brightness to 600 and dropped paper white to 100. I also dropped saturation down to 0.
Now it looks much better. Im sure they will release more patches sooner rather than later.

Overall it feels great to be back in this world. Just arrived in Velen.

Apart from the new dynamic camera I dont feel much of a difference in combat unfortunately, as I was hoping for some more impactful changes. It still feels a bit floaty and weightless, which is a shame.

I also hope for the list of mods to be vastly expanded on consoles now that they were introduced. Would be amazing to try this game in first person, although I doubt that such complex mods will be ported.

It's because, before the Remaster patch, I had the graphics set to "Quality" rather than "Performance".

That's what I preferred, and it worked perfectly - 30fps locked and all the graphical upgrades.

Now, either you put it on "Performance" and get a crazy high framerate with worse graphics, or "Ray Tracing" which gives you 20fps or lower and isn't realistically playable.

It feels a bit like an attempt to force people like me to get a PS5 Pro. It was great before, now I have to choose a worse experience for my preferences. I'm pretty gutted.

But I also have it on Quality... i usually play games on quality mode, coz Im used to 30fps and it doesnt bother me as long as its consistent. And I didnt notice any drops, or that it runs worse than it did before..

I've taken some clips from where I loaded my last save - admittedly they don't look too bad when viewed like this, but I can only promise you it is chugging for me direct from the PS5 in full-screen in the environments I've checked:

This is the only clip I took before the patch... But it's a perfect 30fps:

From what I can find via Google etc., it previously ran ray-tracing at a lower resolution in order to lock framerate fairly well - now, it's either running at a higher resolution, or there are additional resource-intensive effects running that mean the framerate is impacted. For me, at least.

TBH I wanted to know how you upload 10 second clips "directly" without resorting to youtube or streamable (for example)... I ALWAYS get this message:



Guess there's most probably a size limit...? Any tips on how can I reduce the video size without reducing video quality so much? I downloaded your last video (the one with the bug, in which you dismount and go straight into the water) just to see the size, and it's about 19 MB's... My 10 second videos are about 110 MB's... Dang.

Mate, you can use tool Format Factory.
I was added also few notes as a picture for better understanding which one parameters you can use for decoding video to mkv format.

Id like to know as well. Having to upload them to YouTube just to show 15seconds clip here always annoyed me.

As for the Witcher Remaster - I was convinced that people are overreacting with all the issues until I stumbled on a quest where whenever I defeat a certain enemy the game crashes. Now Im stuck there, coz I have to fight him again every time I restart and then it crashes again..

So yeah - I take it all back. Remaster clearly has some big issues.

I just downloaded the clips from the PS App and uploaded them directly - as I know YouTube will compress the hell out of them. I think the file size is small just because the clips are short? Sorry I can't be more help!

On this topic - my game uninstalled itself yesterday. No joke.

A warning for anyone who decides to play around with mods... I installed a few, then saw a warning that trophies / achievements would be disabled.

So I uninstalled the mods, then got a prompt that the game would need to be restarted. So I quit the game back to the dashboard, and... It had gone.

I've never seen anything like this before - I can't understand what happened, but it feels like this game is legitimately dangerously buggy (on PS5 at least).

It took hours to redownload and now I'm a little nervous to try it again until the next update...

@Emroth made a great point to me last night - back up your save files everyone. Just in-case.

I Remember going through some hoops to get my saves over the last time they updated, I barely touched it then so I will give this some more time. I do miss hanging out in that universe, though.

Mate, it is additional included something may be - additional adware soft, that you can not install if untick such option during installing of main tool.
There is no any viruses - because I am sharing with you tool, that I am using for many years for video decoding in other formats .
I am was tryed to do my best again - posted for you old and stable release of tool, saved on my PC.
By the way - from my side was only good suggestion to help you.

A fix patch (5.01) has just released.

Now, every time I pause the game, or press the map shortcut, or a quest cutscene takes you from one area to another, the screen goes black for 6-7 seconds... and if it's a cutscene, when it comes back, there's a bit of dialogue at the start that was missed.

They've really fucked the game up for a lot of us.

If anyone hears of any workarounds, please let us know!!

EDIT: In your PS5 System Settings, disable 120hz to stop this from happening - seems it's a known bug, according to Reddit. I also changed my resolution from "automatic" to a locked 4K for good measure.

could it be that your tv is switching in and out of HDR mode? my new samsung keeps doing it and it's infuriating

After taking a screen capture and noticing no black screen in it, I started investigating cos I had a suspicion the TV was changing modes for some reason...

Figured it out now - the game keeps switching to a 1080p output at random intervals, which forces the TV to change modes, which gives you a black screen, then it switches back to 4K again (which gives you another black screen).

The menus are all locked to 1080p, the gameplay 4K - but then it also switches to 1080p briefly when cutscenes load, then back to 4K, then back again, then back again...

Absolutely infuriating.

glad you've worked it out mate, that's infuriating though. Take me back to the days where trouble shooting was simply blowing on the cartridge
