The Retro FIFA Discussion Thread (All FIFA games by EA are welcome!)

Does anybody play FIFA 13 on PC because it just won't start on my PC I tried everything, I have latest Windows 10 and I can run FIFA 12 but I can't 13, this doesn't make sense. Maybe should I try older Windows versions ?
Did you try running it as as Admin? Do it first. If it doesn't work, run the game in a compatibility mode (Win 7 or Win 8.1) instead of trying it in the older Windows versions. Right-click the executable and go to Properties, then click Compatibility tab and tick the check box to navigate between different compatibility modes such as Win 7, Win 8.1, etc. Good luck!

I tried all that. Thx. Only thing that remains to do is try an old version of W10.

Back on FIFA 14 on PS4.

It may not be as polished as some games but bloody hell, I have FUN!

Playing a few friendlies last night. Some of the passes I could pull off were awesome.

One where my CB had it. He played the ball right through their Midfield & Defence and as their GK came out my striker came in at an angle onto the ball, went past the GK who took him out for a pen. I must of watched the replay 10 times.

Then I was playing a game and my LB had it, down in the opposition full back area. I had a player trying to tackle me, 1 had come to close down and their winger was coming back. Managed to played a lovely reverse ball inside the 2 nearest players which took all 3 defenders out the game and my winger ran onto it but skyed the shot. It was delicious.

FIFA 05 PS2, I get the texture error that looks like the kits are covered in confetti. Anyone know the setting(s) to fix this? I've tried all the usual options in Graphics tab, and all I get is it gets worse instead of gone.

On Aethersx2 btw, Anbernic RG556

I'd really love it if FIFA had a concept similar to the PES "ML Defaults" (Castolo, Ivarov, Minanda, Stremer, etc)..

I think it would've added a great dimension to Career Mode! :TU:

Is FIFA 11 the last game with real fouls and yellow cards?

This game has been a good discovery for me lately :)
Oh, and FIFA 11 is a really good game! Dense midfield, overall enjoyable rhythm and pace, and great out of the box (I believe this was the last FIFA which didn't have slider settings, so the game was really good right from the get-go). It's also great to see that it is continues to have quite a bit of modding support throughout the community. :TU:

Question about FIFA 11: Does anyone have a hard time in the transfer window? I've tried signing players and it's probably the most difficult time I've had with it. Very few players (or teams) accept my transfer proposals, even if they are higher than the norm. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. Thanks!

I noticed this. I recently started my career as a manager and tried to buy players in the summer transfer window, but even 100% of the top-up payments did not move the matter to completion.

And those who were put up for transfer did not interest me, so I did not make such offers. Maybe everything would be fine there.

Anybody have experience comparing the PC and PS3 versions of 12, 13 and 14? Considering playing these on PC using an emulator if there is a significant improvement over the Pc versions.

Anyone knows of good original season patches for both FIFA 13 and 14? Most links I find are pretty old and don't work. Thanks.

Gameplay wise, it's very close, and it's normal. Who would like to touch a gameplay that was so well praised ? To me the difference is the soundtrack experience that make me choose 13 if I've to choose now (as today the rosters are outdated in both games).

It's a good patch, mostly retains a lot of the vanilla stuff and is still a work in progress though it seems. I'm looking for a patch that includes the Club World Cup in Career Mode btw, preferably from the original season too.
I think the older ModdingWay patches might include this: https://soccergaming.com/index.php?threads/fifa-14-moddingway-mods-reuploaded.6472079/#post-6791502
Couldn't find much for FIFA 13 though. There are moddingway patches for it but I don't think they have the Club World Cup. There's an older patch called FIFAMania but it's only in Italian.

Anyone have any experience of playing old PS2 or GameCube Fifa's on the Anbernic RG556 handheld?

I ask as I've always had an issue with them on my phone/laptop (PCSX2) not working well from 2004 and onwards

On PS2 I only tried FIFA 07 and it didn’t work very well for me.

PES and WE up to 9 Liveware Evolution worked without any issues.

I believe that the versions of FIFA 12, 13 and 14 for PC and PS3 are almost equal.
The only thing I can say is that FIFA 14 for PC does suffer from some graphic glitches with AMD cards (nets having a strange "aura" in bad weather/under the floodlights, and crowd disappearing from the stadium under some circumstances) while I'm pretty sure that the PS3 version doesn't suffer from those.
If you play it with RPCS3, though, brace yourself for having glitches with the player names on kits (which do get shown as a solid block of colour from distance).

All the games from FIFA 08 to FIFA 11 are different though: they're more advanced on PS3 than they are on PC.
FIFA 08 was the PS2 version on PC, so it doesn't compare to the PS3 version.
FIFA 09 and FIFA 10 are strange "hybrids" if you know what I mean. Not the same as the PS2 counterparts but definitely not on par with the PS3 versions.
FIFA 11 for PC, lastly, is finally a "PS3 version" but it's a sort of "PS3 FIFA 10.1" with updated rosters and assets.

Since we are on the topic, I'll take advantage of this post to elaborate on something I've learned about Ps3 late chapters while playing some of them on Rpcs3 and wanted to share for a while; some Fifa chapters on Ps3 past 14 aren't actually pure legacy versions, they are strange hybrids themselves where the developers tried to integrate features of the next gen chapters in the old engine; so for example, on Fifa 16 you have the no touch dribbling, on fifa 17 you have the new free kick system, and some of the new (in both) next gen animations that aren't on the vanilla, old gen 14.

Then with 18 it turns in a "proper" legacy version and it's basically Fifa 17 clone straight to the last. Was still kinda fascinating to learn that somebody put the work to implement these stuff on chapters very few people would play.

FIFA 09-10 pc ports are straight up ps2 port with updated graphics. The gameplay feels 1:1 with ps2 port, so are the animations. But the updated graphics of FIFA 09 was actually really good looking. At times it looked better than x360 and ps3 versions, especially the lighting. The lighting on the pc port of fifa 09 was just beautiful and the graphics hold up even to this date. Same with the 3D grass which is only present on pc but missing on xbox 360 and ps3 unless you are looking at instant replay. Cutscenes are better on pc and ps2 too.

FIFA 10 pc port on the other hand though.. let's just say EA really hated PC users back in the day. Absolutely no reason for the graphical downgrades from fifa 09. Here are some comparisons:

A shame FIFA 09 suffers from unfixable Jesus bug on Nvidia GPUs. Game runs fine on AMD and Intel GPUs.

As for the gameplay, ps2 and pc port of fifa 09 and 10 were enjoyable enough tbf. But FIFA 09 on x360 just felt so much better to play and FIFA 10 in particular blows out the gameplay of ps2 and pc port out of water. Gameplay of FIFA 10 on x360/ps3 is really good and satisfying.

Btw, enabling write color buffers on rpcs3 removes the rectangular block from the player names on the back of the jersey. It does make the names invisible until the camera gets closer, but at least it looks better than solid blocks.
