Apologies for the lack of updates again all. I have been racking up a lot of game time but family life has been busy too and I have not had the chance to do some detailed updates here.
I have just finished season 9 of my initial Colo-Colo save. Rather than try to catch up I thought I would just post an overview of all seasons here. I’ve decided to end the save at this point. I am not a massive fan of the regen system in PES and after 9 seasons it is becoming a bit of a problem for me.
There are more detailed posts up to Season 5 earlier in this thread if people want to check them out 👍🏻
Season 1 - Colo-Colo
Our starting point was Chile and with the most successful club in the country, Colo-Colo. The initial squad was pretty average, with some improvement definitely needed to challenge for the title and continental honours.
We had a pretty decent league season. Despite finishing second we were never really in contention for the title.
Away from the league, our Copa Libertadores form was really taking off. I had no expectations of winning the Libertadores at our first attempt but things just seemed to fall in to place. We held our nerve and navigated the group stage and knockout rounds pretty convincingly.
A 1-0 victory in the final against Sao Paolo meant we were champions of South America in our very first season!
Season 2 - Colo-Colo
Season 2 was an interesting one. We had some real momentum after winning the Libertadores but I did tweak the side with quite a few new signings.
Our Team Spirit took a hit and we struggled for early season form. Defeated in the Copa Chile final and struggling in the Libertadores it was a pretty poor start.
Our league form picked up and we managed to win our first Chilean league title. Unfortunately the Libertadores form was a slog and we exited at the QF stage to a very good Boca Juniors team. No successive Libertadores titles for us!
Season 3 - Colo-Colo
Despite disappointment in the Libertadores and Copa Chile I was excited heading in to season 3. We added a couple more signings to really finish the squad off and I was confident that we could challenge on all fronts.
The league campaign was intense but we came out on top in a pretty tight title race against Universidad Católica. We also managed to land our first Copa Chile title as we defeated Deportes Melipilla in a pretty one sided final.
My real aim was to win another Libertadores title. What an achievement it would be to win two Libertadores with a side from Chile. We steamrolled the group and grew even stronger as the tournament went on. We made it to another final and defeated another Brazilian team to win our second Libertadores. This time we came out 2-1 winners against Atletico Mineiro.
Season 4 - Rosario Central
After winning everything with Colo-Colo the time felt right for a new challenge. I had a quick scan of the other South American leagues and spotted Rosario Central languishing at the bottom of the Argentine league.
They accepted my application and it was time to get to work to help turn their fortunes around. The squad was full of real talent, with a 37 year old Angel Di Maria as one of the stars. It was massively bloated though and my first job was to trim it down to 20-22 players. We sold around 10 players in my first season and consolidated in mid-table.
They had previously qualified for the Copa Libertadores but our main aim was improving the league form. We crashed out of the group stages and never really prioritised it.
Season 5 - Rosario Central
I was confident heading in to season 2 with Rosario. We ended the season positively with some great results in the league. We bolstered the attack and defence in the transfer window. With no Copa Libertadores football it felt like a real opportunity to take on the domestic trophies.
We bagged our first trophy as we defeated Estudiantes in the Copa Argentina final.
Our league form was pretty consistent too and we managed to claim our first league title during my first full season in charge.
Season 6 - Rosario Central
With domestic trophies in the bag my attention definitely turned to another Copa Libertadores title and my first with Rosario. I made the big decision of selling Di Maria, but a £40m transfer fee from FC Porto was too good to turn down for a 38 year old who was clearly on the decline.
The funds meant we could really invest in the squad.
We retained the Copa Argentina and league title. Tallares were the surprise package and they pushed us all the way in a decent title race. We managed to win it with 3 games to spare.
The Copa Libertadores splits across two seasons in the Argentine calendar. As a result, we finished the season qualifying from the group and winning our Round of 16 tie. The quarter finals would pick up next season.
Season 7 - Rosario Central
With the Copa Libertadores QF on the horizon our early season prep was all about keeping players fresh and fit for the final stages of the competition.
Our form was excellent and we started off the season with a third successive Copa Argentina.
We managed to progress through the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores to set up a final against SC Barcelona of Ecuador. It felt strange to have such a high profile final in the middle of a season but we rose to the occasion to bring home another Copa Libertadores title. The first with Rosario.
We went on to win another league title to secure a historic treble and round off a fantastic period with Rosario.
Season 8 - Fluminense
I had reached a similar point with Rosario where I felt like it was time for one more challenge in this save. This time, it was Fluminense who were sitting in 18th position in the Brazilian Serie A. After 12 games they were 7 points from safety and really struggling for form.
It felt like a really fresh challenge after having so much success with Rosario.
The main aim was to keep Fluminense in Serie A. The squad had some really talented players who had clearly underperformed. We had some mixed results to begin with but our form really picked up during the second half of the season. We steered clear from relegation and found ourselves in mid table with a few games remaining.
A really strong push towards the end of the season meant that we finished in 6th place and qualified for the Copa Libertadores Qualifying Round. What a turnaround!
Season 9 - Fluminense
I’d decided that this would be my final season of the save, no matter the outcome. As a result I really wanted to push on and go all out for every trophy.
We strengthened the squad, with Coritiba’s Igor Jesus (currently at Nottingham Forest) our best signing. He went on to score 35 goals across the season as we hit new levels.
We won the Copa Brasil and won the league at a canter. The final gap between 2nd placed Flamengo was 35 points.
That left the Copa Libertadores. We navigated the qualifying round and group stages with ease. We survived a scare in the Quarter Final against Argentine side Lanus. They held us to a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg but we ran out 2-0 winners in the away leg.
The final was an all Brazilian affair against Atletico Mineiro. It was a really cagey game but we managed to score in the 56th minute and hold out for my fourth Copa Libertadores title, completing another fantastic treble. This time, with Fluminense.
This has been such an enjoyable save and I have had so much fun flicking between some of the biggest teams in South America. 4 Copa Libertadores titles is a massive highlight but in a really strange way my favourite achievement was probably steering Fluminense away from a relegation battle and finishing in a qualification spot for the Libertadores.
I have started a new ML save with Independiente Medellin as I did not quite manage to squeeze in a Colombian team. The Colombian league format is a bit crazy and I have never completed a long term save here. Hopefully I can drop some updates in shortly with more success 👍🏻
