The Master League adventures thread

Fellas,

Regarding the bigger club rule. Does this also mean that if you say received 3 offers for a player, e.g.

Atletico Madrid 5000, Sunderland 6000 and Vitesse Arnhem 5000+player
that you are duty bound to in this scenario take the lowest bid?

db

I go for what i believe to be the most realistic transfer Db.

You must have one of the 60Gb PS3s right? As the 40s don't have backward compatibility (PS2 games) do they?

Yep, I'm on the PC version.

Re: multiple bids: I check the popularity rating of each bidding club, then sell to the most popular (also taking into account divisional status). If that doesn't separate them, I'll sell to the club that plays in the same league as me, so I'll have to face the player later on. If that still doesn't separate them, I'll factor in my own judgement on which club the player would most realistically want to sign for.

Only if it's still a toss-up after all that does the size of the offer come into it.

Downbeat: Deschacht's own goal separated the two sides

European Qualifiers, Day 3
ANDERLECHT 0
EMPOLI 1 Deschacht 37'(og)

Empoli's incredible European qualifying run continued last night, when the Serie A outfit beat Anderlecht 1-0 in Brussels. Olivier Deschacht's own goal, minutes from the break made the difference, despite the Belgians fashioning the majority of the chances.

Very realistic Prof...really very realistic.
Another fantastic Anderlecht CL performance.

Congratulations to Empoli...

EMPOLI WIN QUALIFYING GROUP

Saborio celebrates his opener in Seville

European Qualifiers, Day 4
SEVILLA 0
EMPOLI 2 Saborio 32' 82'

Empoli FC have qualified for the Champions League group phases, after defeating Sevilla in Spain and winning their qualifying group with style. Alvaro Saborio reacted well to recently losing his starting place, with a brace in Seville. The Costa Rican was given the nod by his manager in this no pressure tie. Playing the lone striker role in a 4-2-3-1 formation, he opened the scoring on 32 minutes, with a lovely 18 yard chip over the backpeddling Palop. The Latin hitman signalled to the bench in his celebrations, as if to say, that's what i can do.

As has been their style so far in the competition, Empoli looked to soak up the pressure and hit on the break. With the Spaniards chasing the game, Sevilla threw a third striker onto the field. Once again, however, the Italians managed to strike through Saborio, minutes from time.

With two games now left in the qualifying rounds, any of Rangers, Sevilla or Anderlecht can still grab the second Champions League spot, while one will have to settle for an Uefa Cup place. Empoli's remarkable european adventure looks set to continue then, at least for another group stage.

I'm also a Football Manager freak and it barely happens in that game too...

I know this is an old post... but what???

Lucky you! Every time I have a player that had a great season, the big boys come flying in unsettling my star players, forcing me to sell them before their contracts run out.

Club Brugge takes a risk with new manager

After an absence of almost a year GFK has returned on the pitch to guide Club Brugge through the newly created North-Europe division.
GFK was delighted to be back: ''I missed the smell of grass and the training of players. I am very happy Club Brugge has given me this chance.''.
Every player starts from scratch, GFK says, and no new players will be bought due to lack of money at Brugge.
The new season will start for Brugge against Norwegian champion Rosenborg. The aim of the board for Club Brugge is a top 5 position. Will GFK succeed?

I never get away with saying that as Dutch, eh? :)

But I will need the luck - thanks btw. I recently bought a Xbox360 very cheap and bought PES2008, after not playing at all the last version of PES. But even without playing the last PES I can see that the changes are minor. Even an absolute downgrade when it comes to the edit mode. Anyway, you guys of course know this, so I will cut the whining.

At last; I like all of you guys ML's, I hopefully can achieve the same with Brugge!

GFK, the way Brugge is playing for the last 3 seasons, "i like the smell of napalm in the morning seems more appropriate"...lots of manager sacking in Brugge and (even worse) the second team of the city (Cercle Brugge) playing beautiful football. They were the most attractive team in last year's competition.
Club Brugge looked good, for a while they even gave the impression of becoming champions but then their manager (Jacky Mathijsen) decided to play Mourinho-games and Brugge lost it's lead rather quickly...although last season was better than the two seasons before that, all in all another disappointment.
I wish you good luck (must be tough now that Sterchelé is dead...he was found positive on cocaïne and alcohol by the way...).

Oef, how bad of me that I forgot that Sterchele is dead! That is really a let down cause he was my best player. But I have to obey the rules, so he is out... Shame he was found positive on alcohol and cocaine.
But interesting to read how Club Brugge is playing. Aside of their beautifull shirt it is also an interesting team to play with. They have lots of older players and rather unbalanced too (much strikers and physique strong players). But I look forward to manage the team. Some very interesting players too, like: Leko, Sonck and Engelbert. Can you tell me how these are in reallife? Sonck is already injured for me after one match, i have the feeling that isnt much a difference with reallife :) Capon seems promising too...
I hope I can turn the Mourinho-style into a Dutch VanBasten style!

I have to say, my style in Europe (thus far) is pretty sweet. I think it quite Hiddink-like :DD The same can't be said for my domestic game though. At least, not at the moment.

Sonck already injured is very realistic...
Koen Daerden is also very injury prone.
Their best players: Elrio Van Heerden, Jeroen Simayes,Karel Geraerts
Capon is a good yo!ung player but not spectacular.
They bought a very good player this summer: Dirar from Westerlo and also a Venezuelan player who should be sensational: Vargas...

Mixed start for GFK with Club Brugge

The team of GFK can be found at plce 8th after six games. After 2 draw, 2 lost games and 2 games won, this a mixed result. Sometims Brugge plays beautifull football - see the last game against Galatasary, which Brugge won with 2-0 - and sometimes the football is horrible with red cards - see the 2-0 lost against Wisla Krakow the week before Galatasray. GFK says that: ''you can't say anything yet. The team has to get used to each other yet, but I see progress''
A pleasant suprise so far has been Capon with 2 goals. Since the tragic dead of Sterchele he has got the full confident of GFK and pays it back this way.

@Gerd, shame both new players which Brugge bought are not in the game.. But i know Dirar, Ajax also wanted to buy him..

Great thread. My favourite ML campaigns are just after buying the latest PES - no warm ups, just straight into D1 ML with the weakest team I can find for a massive relegation battle, no new signings permitted in the first season. This time around I chose Almeria for a Spanish campaign in the PC PES08; just survived by one point thanks to a 2-1 win over Recreativo on the final day. Less fortunate on PSP PES08, with Calgiari dropping like a stone into D2. Managed to get promoted a couple of seasons later, and doing well in D1 this time (strict policy of buying only domestic players, but its been comparatively easy to acquire young stars like Rossi, Pozzi, Palladino, Pazzini etc). I'm really impressed by the PSP version - crisp gameplay, defence is tough unless you're feeling sharp (I've been hammered 7-0 by Milan and Udinese!). One question about the 'next gen' PES08: despite setting the ML difficulty to max, I can still see the player development curve all the way to retirement, unlike in the PSP version where it's hidden - is this a PC bug, or common to the PS3 & XBOX 360 versions too?

Cancel those parties in Offenbach am Main tonight.

In the 88th minute of the final game of the Bundesliga season, the locals were rocking the Bieberer Berg Stadion. Hannover 96 were being held in Hoffenheim, and Suat Türker's diving header had given Kickers a 2-1 lead over Schalke. Kickers had escaped, they were staying up!

In the 89th minute, Schalke sub Peter Lovenkrands did this.

The reputation as a yo-yo club continues. This year was supposed to be different..

I started a Master League with Aston Villa (Actual Villa players), I won the Cup and League in the first season and managed to sign;

Ribery, Lucio, Beckham, Veron, Saviola and Nuri Sahin, in the middle transfer window (Nearly all these players were unattached, which is what allowed me to sign them)

Moved into the Top Division and brought in;

Makaay, Luque, Odonker and Diego.

I have just won the League and Cup again, but cannot sign any of the higher quality players. Am I going to have to win the European Cup next season to get these players in?

I didn't have a problem when I was doing a Master League on the PC version.

EMPOLI TO FACE EURO GIANTS

1261.gif
champions_league.gif

Empoli FC sent shockwaves through Europe when they won their Champions League qualifiying group with style. However, having now qualified for the group stages, the Tuscan minnows will face a bigger challenge, as the Azzurri prepare to take on FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich in Group B.
The unfancied Italians will no doubt use their underdog status to their advantage, just as they did in the qualifiers. Critics are already tipping the Italians to drop into the UEFA Cup, but only time will tell whether Empoli will continue to make waves in Europe's premier cup competition. Forza Empoli!

Congratulations Prof.
You face an uphill race like my Valenciennes, i'm in the group of Juventus, Man Utd and Newacstle (won my first match against newcastle 1-4 at St-James Park).

Granted: your group is tougher than mine...although i my ML Newacstle are currently leading the Premiershi with a 7 point lead (very realistic).

Good luck.

Is it me or is the AI cheating like hell? Most of the time I am the dominant team on the pitch. When I finally score a goal the AI suddenly plays like a mad train. They just keep the ball for ages and all I can do is wait and hope the dont score, but they always do. Most annoying thing is that it always happens to me in the last minutes of the game. Its just to obvious to not notice...
Prof, in which season are you now in with Empoli? And what kind of formation do you guys play? Does it depend on the players you got or via a certain look on the game and adapt the players to that?

Gerd, are you in the group stages? (ie not the qualifying groups).
I do indeed have a tough group :CONFUSE: (an understatement), so i hope i can continue playing as i have been in Europe. Perhaps Barcelona will be wary and remember that i gave them some games when i managed Deportivo Alaves (PES5).
I always think, if i want to go far, or even win it, i will have to beat the big boys anyway.
It's nice to get to the knockout stages though. It gets quite exciting. I'd really like to lift a European trophy with Empoli (sounds funny i know), but this is a very enjoyable ML, up there with my other memorable ones. I still haven't won a Euro trophy since PES4 (CL with Cagliari)

GFK, i think this is my third season (or is it fourth? lol, i forget for a second). I have two formations at the moment. 4-4-2 in the league and 4-2-3-1 in Europe. I do tend to base formations around available players.
