The La Liga thread - 2009/2010

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

I see. Well Valencia have just wasted their season. They have so much quality that they can be genuine title contenders, and even win the title. Though I am afraid now with Koeman's restructuring and getting rid of old players, I can't see them retaining their other quality players like Villa, and turn into a mid table side next season. I will be pretty sad, as I really like Valencia and they have many players that I like, such as Villa and former captain Albelda.

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

When I said that I was referring to a number of things like how the fans weren't happy with Hector Cuper despite the fact that he took them to 2 successive CL finals.

yep, but honestly Cuper's only merit was being in the right place at the right time..... He just took advantage of the job done by ranieri before him. Ranieri was the one who built that awesome team..... and honestly, Ranieri's valencia was much more beautiful than Cuper's one.
When Cuper left valencia, we realised that Valencia greatest achievements weren't really due to his ability.
The truth is that team was simply fantastic (kily, mendieta, albelda, baraja, ayala, farinos...) and kept playing good footie even when cuper left.

btw i see your points about valencia fans being always disappointed and always pretending more, and i agree with u. i've been in valencia for a few months years ago and i personally experienced it. sure they're not the best spanish fans.

the only ones who know the reasons of valencia collapse are the players and the staff.... Sure there must be some problems in the dressing room, if koeman put off the team the real dressing room leader (albelda).
talking about santi canizares instead, he honestly deserved to be kicked out of the starting 11, as he has been really awful this season....... but the problem is that hildebrand did not play better than him :(

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

I don't know about Cuper's Valencia, but Benitez's Valencia was absolutely awesome. They played much amazing football, but wern't afraid of getting dirty when they needed. That really was some team! Albelda, Aimar, Vicente were in their prime. Even Flores was doing a decent job wasn't he. I have really been disappointed with Valencia, because they have one of the better squads in Europe.

well, Cuper's valencia too was a hell of a team. My point was that it wasn't coz of cuper's coaching abilities ;):)

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

lo zio dont forget Claudio Lopez.

No doubt they'll be many takers for Albeda when he sorts out his legal stuff with Valencia, I'd love him at Spurs.

Hilderbrand deserved a run in the team but like you said he hasn't been any better.

The Fantastic Claudio Lopez, can't believe i forgot to mention him ;) What a great team that valencia was :)

Claudio and Gaizka went to lazio a few years ago.... but they weren't able to show their abilities in serie a :(...

many teams will fight for albelda this summer. he's a very useful player who can easily adapt to different gaming systems (imo)

Farinos found himself in the same boat also.

Farinos found himself in the same boat also.

yep, but he joined inter so it was not a suprise seeing him playing under his standards....
those days inter was a mess!

also Kily (who joined inter too) had some problems during his first days in inter.....

it would have been sooo much better (for them, i mean) if they wouldn't have come here in italy (except kily maybe).

but at least they granted a lot of money to valencia with their transfers.

:)

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

Valladolid have been blitzed by Madrid!

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

7-0 is the latest score.

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

We'll see ;)

Anyways, I'm delighted to see Valencia and Villa back on track. Villa on form is the best striker in the world.

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

Wow, Sevilla are back to their best, and it's an absolute treat to watch. Alves again with a world class performance, and great game for Fabiano. And a very impressive performance by Diego Capel again. I fancy Sevilla to do really well in the UCL. And I really, really hope they can hold onto players like Capel, Alves, Fabiano and Poulsen. Sevilla have all the potential to become European giants in the next couple of years.

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

Could have been 10 - 0 last night easily.

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

Well, assuming we get through at home against Lyon, and Celtic don't spring a surprise at the Camp Nou, we'll have Barca in the next round of the CL. Not good.

We beat a Barca side on song, should be easy for you lot, no? ;)

Anyways, won't we have a draw for the 1/4 finals?

Real suffered yet another defeat at home against Getafe, and the title race is wide open now. Real are finally having a blip after a winning streak, and Barca are back to their best now. It's only 2 points, and this could go down to the wire.

That was for me quite stupid how the referee let Getafe counter like that it simply wasn't fair yet it does open the title race wide open

Re: The La Liga thread - Season 2007/2008

Some of the Real players are to blame but not the ones in the corner with Robben. If the linesman disallows a goal he waves his flag and then goes back down the pitch, the linesman in that game didn't move, he was right next to Robben n co.

At the same time Raul n Ruud where right next to the ref and they could have easily stopped the quick FK from being taken is they were alert.
