The ONE thing Bruce Rioch ever did right as an Arsenal manager, was signing Dennis Bergkamp, that is a true Gunner. Still the Iceman today, the guys vision and coolness when finishing, still makes me miss the guy in an Arsenal shirt.

i think thierry henry was a better player than bergkamp, and contributed more
and i think someday we could call fabregas as the best player ever played for arsenal

I only care about the time i remember so my fave player is:

Stuart Pearce

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest
Quickly establishing himself as an uncompromising left back who played hard but fair, he was then saved by Brian Clough for Nottingham Forest two years later, as the makeweight in a £300,000 deal which also saw Coventry's centre back Ian Butterworth move to Forest. Indeed, so unsure was Pearce of his footballing future that, after the transfer, he actually advertised his services as an electrician in Forest's match-day programme. However that determination and combative attitude made him an all time fans favourite and earned him the nickname Psycho.

Pearce spent more than ten years at Forest, most of it as club captain, becoming by far and away the supporters' favourite player,[citation needed] and briefly also became player manager, a caretaker role he held while the club found a long-term boss. This short period in charge saw him win the manager of the month award, although ultimately resulted in Nottingham Forest's relegation. During his eventful playing career he won two League Cups and the Simod Cup, while also scoring from a free kick in the 1991 FA Cup final, when Forest were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur. Despite the relegation from the top flight, Pearce decided to stay, helping Forest to gain promotion the following season, including scoring a spectacular header to secure promotion.

Tough, perhaps a bit young to answer properly. There were great historical figures likes Scirea, Sivori, Charles, Tardelli, Furino, Cabrini. The world's best in Platini, and more recently Baggio and Zidane, although the latter was never able to really become a juve legend like for example a lesser player in Nedved. Del Piero perhaps, one of the biggest juve legends, but not THE best player.

Probably a tie between Scirea, Sivori and Platini. I'd love if someone could give a better view, as i've only seen old footage of them of course.

Scirea and tardelli for me, by far.

all the players u mentioned (from baggio to zidane, from sivori to platini and cabrini) are legends and were world class player.

but we saw quite a few players who reached their level; cruyff, maradona, rivera, zico, socrates, and probably many others i don't recall at the moment were on the same level of sivori, platini and zidane. and many other world class players could be put together with cabrini......

but there was just 1 scirea in history... the only ones who could deserve a mention on scirea's same page on a "football bible" could be baresi and beckembauer... but they were still 1 step behind him.

and the same goes for tardelli. just maldini reached his class...... even though sergio ramos is following the same path.

I agree with lo zio, Scirea was great, fantastic...IMHO he's the best ever juve player.

But Don you forgot: Zoff, Bettega and the red haired Polish strikerwho played together with Platini, i forgot his name but he was great...oh i remeber now: Zbigniew Boniek

Also: Altafini.

Ah yes thanks, good suggestions, especially as you're probably one of the few around here to have seen them play ;).

There are so many names to mention though :).

:-s

is this a classy way to say Gerd is old?

btw scirea, cabrini, tardelli, platini, boniek.... they all retired among '88 and '91..... it's not really so much time ago.
i was just a child those days, but i perfectly remember them.

yup sure they deserve a mention too.

Zibi!! :D a very good striker and a nice person.... but still i wouldn't put him among yuve best ever.
now he works for the italian television. a very clever and witty man with a good sense of humour and who always speaks sense.

also altafini works for the italian television.... but he's one of the (very) few low quality italian commentors. he's funny, but his comments don't add anything to the game.

Oh my god Altafini is SO annoying on TV. For him, even the worst Brazilian player is the next Pele. He compares every trick they do to the 'manual of football' which gets so annoying.
