The demo sounded bad on my setup but I kinda hoped it was a demo thing and the full release would be sorted

I have an asus A8N-E motherboard with realtek ALC850 onboard audio, running XP

In game music seems to play fine, but any sound effects are crackly and distorted.

Theres no new drivers for this on the Asus website - I already have the latest version :(

Never had this issue in another game.

Any ideas?

Got the same probs here. Got a Creative soundblaster live! I updated the latest video and sounddrivers. Also directx 9.0c. Still have the probs....anyone an idea?

i also have the same problem, from the demo to the full retail. i also use on board sound, nforce4 from the top of my head. the only solution i have found so far is to turn it off and listen to music, and i can only do that by setting the thread priority of winamp to high using task manager. otherwise pes lags winamp sound, imho it is just another instance of p1ss poor programming from konami....this game epitomises rush job

In no particular order, a few things for you to try;

1. Ensure you have the LATEST drivers for your sound card. Microsoft recently patched some motherboard bridging in a Windows update which caused alot of problems for sound cards in games and requires a later driver.

Note: There's a windows update that helps with the motherboard bridging if you already have the latest drivers for your card - it's a fix that stopped errors in games using DX9.0c (it fixed my sound problem anyhow).

2. Ensure you have your sound configured for "headphones" or "desktop speakers" no matter how many speakers you have.

3. Check your DirectX setup for erroneous/out of date files. (Files that aren't 9.0c). Start, Run, DXDIAG opens the diagnostics.

4. Within DXDIAG, try reducing your sound hardware acceleration one step at a time and see if it changes anything.
