Sir Bobby Robson has admitted that he is losing his battle with lung cancer and has only months left to live:

As a fan of Ipswich Town FC, Sir Bobby is a living legend to me and this is very sad news. He achieved so much at my club and really put us on the map in the footballing world, guiding us to our only FA cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981. The man has had such a great career, taking in England, Newcastle and great clubs in Europe (Barca, PSV etc) He will be sorely missed.

Let's hope Sir Bobby has many happy months left ahead of him.

That is sad :(( - I always really liked Bobby.

Damn, I reckon Bobby is one of the greatest characters to have graced football. His autobiography is excellent, sad news :((
 
One of the finest men that English football ever produced in any capacity IMO. I obviously hope that he can go into remission or something but as it seems unlikely I just hope his last weeks are as pain free as possible.

He's fought the disease four times before and won, but at 75 I think you can only go on fighting it for so long. I think sir Bobby will go out of his way to carry on as normal right until the end.
 
Will be sad to see him go, I wouldn't rule out him fighting it off yet again.

One of the most passionate men in football you can find. Just a real love for the sport as a whole. Couldn't give a monkeys about the commercialism of it.

Well said - he's not gone yet.

A truly great guy, and would be a massive loss to football, but let's hope he's around to watch the Geordies win the Premiership.


(Assuming he lives to be 174 - I wouldn't bet against it!)
